Chapter 19: Sunagakure Genin Corps Operation

The training arc Kaito and his team went through was not just made to prepare for any mission in the future. Kaito decided to focus on training and upgrading their gear for one specific mission, an operation that would involve not just their team, but a whole platoon of the Sungakure Genin Corps.

[Desert Wind Swan Operation - C-rank mission]

Although it was a C-rank mission, the casualty rates of Sunagakure Genin Corps operation was very high, as it involved over 40 genin teams, hand-picked by the Council of Sunagakure. There was only one or two of such operations yearly. Every time, however, several teams would lose one or more members.

Each team would have one or several missions to complete, as the shinobi world did not work as a monolith army, but rather on groups of skirmishers. Armies would, after all, be decimated by the presence of high-ranking shinobi, which led to this skirmish-based wars.

Officially, Sunagakure was in peace with all the other major villages. However, many merchants were forced to cross the land of wind in order to reach the lands of grass. Because of that, the frontiers with Tanigakure were very tense. Of course, the fact that Konoha and Sunagakure chose the land of rivers as their battlefield location did not make amends easy to forget. However, Tanigakure was very weakened by the third shinobi war, causing them to barely retaliate, or else be annihilated.

Iwagakure, too, was very hostile with Sunagakure. However, Iwagakure was stronger than Sunagakure as a village, as they possessed more skilled jonins. Thankfully, Sunagakure was a close ally to Konoha, causing Iwagakure to be very cautious and never overstep too much.

This time around, the Sunagakure Genin Corps Operation involved a Tanigakure hideout in the frontier. Many genins had died, and perhaps Kaito's piece of information from the last mission influenced the choice to completely destroy it.

Anyway, the hideout possessed at least two jonins, a few chunins and many genins. The role of genins from the Sunagakure Genin Corps was not the main infighting. This role was reserved for the high-jonins such as Baki from the series, or Hyashi, the strongest Wind Ninjutsu specialist in the village.

Each mission attributed to the teams of genins was handpicked based on their skills, specialties and weaknesses. Kaito's team was quite proficient in battles, so the mission was quite simple : to track and kill those who managed to get away.

[Desert Wind Swan Operation - C-rank mission

Tanigakure has overstepped its boundaries recently, and the Sunagakure Council has decided to retaliate by destroying their main outpost on the borders of the lands of grass and the lands of wind. By doing so, Sunagakure would be able to deal a great blow to the Tanigakure village and further weaken them. As Sunagakure will face less competition for shinobi requests, its economy will improve slightly.

Your team , Team n°146's role in this operation is to cover the zone 324 marked on your minimap, track any shinobi that tries to escape and kill them. Your team will be in charge of the killing. You will be supported by Team n° 142, which possess tracking and fighting skills.

Rewards: 2000 EXP, 320 000 Ryô, Increased Reputation with the Sunagakure Village

Unique Reward: Sungakure Village's economy score will be increased by 1 point if the operation is successful]

As Kaito retrieved the scroll detailing the mission, the blue screen representing the system's analysis of the mission appeared in front of his eyes. The rewards were pretty generous, and the part where the economy of the village would improve was perhaps the best reward there was. Although it would not impact him directly on the short term, the stronger his village became on the long term, the more opportunities for growth he would receive

Still, it had been a long time since he had worked with another team of shinobi. Kaito was not a very trusting man, and although he trusted his teammates, the same could not be said for other genins of his age. Most of them were weak.

'Team 142? This must be Kohaku, Tomoko and Harumi's team...I guess this will be an opportunity to check our team's progress in comparison to our peers. Maybe we can learn a thing or two from them too'
