Chapter 1: Awakening
Southern Base City, 3rd District, No.3 Middle School, Class 24. "The mage affinity awakening ceremony will soon begin.
Random mob, "I hope I can awaken an elemental affinity above C-rank, even if it is a weak element!"
Random mob 2, "Fuck, you still want C-rank I only need a D-rank and it's enough for me to do well in future"
In the classroom, there were the voices of many students. "Hey, bro why are you so calm, talk about it, what elemental affinity do you want to awaken?"
In the corner, a thin boy patted the shoulder of a handsome boy heavily who said. "Let's follow fate, as long as I can awaken an elemental affinity, then even with a F-rank and hard work I can become an official mage in future!"
The handsome boy is Link Atlas and it has been almost seventeen years since he was reborn into this world. This world is a planet called Gaia and is very similar to Earth from his previous life. It's just that a hundred years ago a calamity suddenly occurred, and the size of the Gaia expanded by more than a hundred times.
Not only that, but a special energy awakened, which caused all the animals to mutate and become terrifying beasts. These beasts heavily damaged the human world, leaving destruction and turmoil in their path.
In the beginning, the advanced weapons of mankind could still deal with these beasts. But as time went on , powerful beasts gradually appeared, and people found that the weapons they were so proud of were no longer effective against these powerful existences.
Even if a nuclear bomb was used, it could only kill the beasts in the core of the explosion, the rest would still survive, albeit injured
For a long period of time, humanity was on the loosing side, their cities destroyed and people killed. Fortunately, under the influence of this special energy, certain humans awakened abilities and successfully repelled these beasts.
These awakened, formed a human federation and rescued large numbers of people from the beasts, forming base cities one by one to compete against the beasts.
But even so, humans are still at a disadvantage in the fight with monsters. If it hadn't been for the awakened from the Federation, oppressing the beast side, human beings would have been destroyed long ago. Even so, the original population of nearly ten billion was eventually reduced than three billion. And with the establishment of the human federation, the first group of ability users shared with the public how they became powerful.
That is, although the special energy could not strengthen humans the way it does beasts, humans can absorb this energy and store it in their body.
Although this energy has little effect on the strength of their body, humans can use this energy to create powerful abilities. Humans later named this energy as mana. Mana is divided into many types of elemental affinities the most common being metal, wood, water, fire, and earth. There are also some special elements, such as ice, lightning, and wind.
The abilities they can create are known as magic! The basis for using mana is to awaken an elemental affinity. The level of the elemental affinity determines the upper limit of their magic.
"Link said it correctly, even if you awaken the lowest level of elemental affinities, it is better than not awakening one at all".
The noisy classroom immediately quietened down as the head teacher walked into the classroom proud and expectantly. Behind him was a middle-aged man with a transparent crystal ball in his hand. Presumably this middle-aged man was the person in charge of thier affinity awakening ceremony.
"Dear students, today is the 100th day before the academy entrance exam. At this time of every year, our school invites a Master Magician to help everyone awaken."
"Let us welcome Arch Mage Silverwood!" Suddenly, there was an announcement from the teacher, which was accompanied by a loud applause.
"Okay, let's begin. Class 24 is the best class in the our third year of high school. I hope it can give me a big surprise, Next, the students who hear their name being called, please come up to the stage to awaken!" Mr. Silverwood smiled kindly, and took the class roster and handed it over to the class teacher, and began to call out the names.
"Number one, Gyro Beacon", A tall and burly boy walked out in response. Under the guidance of Mr Silverwood he put his hand on the crystal. Seeing this, Silverwood chanted something, then stretched out a smaller crystal, and soon, a faint yellow light lit up from the crystal ball. "E-rank Earth affinity.
"Next, No. 2 Max Valler" After confirming that he had awakened the earth element talent, Gyros's face showed had a happy expression, and he returned to his previous position. The next step is to help the rest awaken one by one, thou the chances of them awakening an affinity is not high. Only five from the first twenty people who were called successfully awakened an affinity with the highest talent being D-rank.
"Number 26, Link Atlas" Link took a deep breath and stepped forward, he and put his hand on the Awakening Crystal, a red light shone from the crystal, Mr Silverwood's slightly surprised voice sounded. "D-rank fire affinity, not bad. Link withdrew his hand, and there was a look of joy on his face. A D-rank elemental affinity which means that as long as he works hard, it's possible for him to become a mid-ranked mage. And just as he thanked the instructor and returned to his seat, a robotic voice sounded in his mind.
