Chapter 28: Immortal City
[Citizens' Point of View]
After Inmo stopped the titans, we lived in a peaceful era again, continuing our learning. Our society is entirely based on the pursuit of knowledge; we do not seek power. However, we are aware that the world outside holds dangers capable of exterminating humanity in mere minutes. Thus, we were preparing ourselves to stay protected. Inmo had already warned us that at some point, the rest of humanity would reach a stage where they would realize who we are, and they would not accept us.
One day, Inmo received a challenge from the gods. We knew it must be a trap, but he said that nothing could kill him, so he went ahead anyway. He ordered us to be on high alert, and the city council quickly initiated their war plans, preparing tanks and jets to act at a moment's notice.
While we were monitoring Inmo's battle with the gods through satellites, an alarm was triggered, alerting everyone that Atlantis was on the move. They came with a fleet comprising various battalions of soldiers donning gleaming golden armor and cold weapons, along with some aircraft and war vehicles. But from the looks of it, their long-range attack relied solely on mages and sorcerers. They were moving fast, coming from the depths of the sea until they reached our country's coast. They were using different vehicles to traverse the jungle, and they would arrive soon. The Observers decided to strike before their arrival, and the jets were launched, quickly starting to eliminate the enemies. However, the mages made their moves, protecting their allies and destroying some jets. The battlefield turned into complete carnage, and the Observers did not wish to continue this way. They ordered the jets to return, as they were about to deploy their specialty, biological weapons.
When our ancestors arrived in this forest, one of their main concerns was the venom of the local animals. They specialized in it, and we honored our ancestors by continuing their research for both healing and destructive purposes. Inmo always made a point to test our weapons on himself, and he used to say, "Thank goodness Geneva doesn't exist yet." Perhaps it was a compliment? Whenever we asked, he would just laugh and not explain.
When we started using our biological weapons, the enemy became incapacitated, though it wasn't one of our deadliest weapons. Some enemies died from the venom's shock, while the majority survived. We then sent our ground troops to capture them until Inmo decides what to do with them.
A few hours later, Inmo returned and took his place on the throne. We all cheered and celebrated. The council approached Inmo, who was sitting on the throne, and they bowed before him, asking what they should do with the captured enemies. Inmo ordered them to bring the enemies' leader to him. Once it was done, Inmo stood up from the throne, facing everyone, and said to the Atlanteans, "You're free to go." Though we were perplexed, none of us dared to question him. Then, Inmo spoke again in his calm. "You have 24 hours. After that, Atlantis will never see the surface world again as long as I live." The Atlanteans were petrified in place, unsure of what to do. As we began sending them out of our country, some were crying, others were asking for forgiveness, and some simply broke down, appearing as if they were living dead.
[Immortal's Point of View]
I was proud of my people; they had truly learned everything I taught them and improved, surpassing me long ago. I was still somewhat uncertain about the decision I made to sink Atlantis, but the pros outweighed the cons. I knew that Atlantis never ended well; it was their karma, and with this act, I would show my future enemies why they should not mess with my people. I gave enough time for the innocent to escape. Those who remain have made their choice, and I can live with that.
The next day, during the immortal dawn, I was outside the Earth, wandering in the vacuum of space. Utilizing my divine power, I sensed where Atlantis was. The time had come, and I was ready. I entered the Earth's atmosphere, causing a reentry with booming sonic roars growing louder and leaving a trail of fire in my wake.
