Chapter 5: Chapter Four

A bright light shines through sunkissed eyelids. Movement behind her has Aymelek smiling and slowly turning over. Eyes sulkily open, revealing iridescent blue green irises. A pair of masculine lips, shadowed by stubble brushes her temple, cheek, and lips before Jericho leans back. The sunlight filters in through the window, a lazy breeze flickers the silken drapes. He smiles down at her, but there's no sound. That's the only evidence to Aymelek that, while it is a memory, it's also a dream. Everything is slow motion as she reaches up and brushes her hand down the side of his face. He smiles, takes her hand, kissing her fingertips individually, he pauses smirking a bit with that dangerously sexy smirk she loves, opens his lips to speak....

(BEEP BEEP BEEP)

(BEEP BEEP BEEP)

(BEEP BEEP BEEP)

Aymelek is yanked from her dream, almost violently as the insufferable alarm sets off it's chaotic chime. She considers for a moment, violently beating the device until it's dust. It's a pleasant thought, for a second, before she remembers it's already the 6th one in 3 months.

She groans and rolls over opening her eyes before slapping the beast back to its slumber. Silence falls, and she can only glare at the plastic, non-living monster in deep dislike. She sits up, staring at the desolate, gray wall. Her thoughts reminisce over the dream, her finger tips touching her lips idly at the fond memory. A deep pang of loneliness echoes within her breast, reminding her, with a pang of hurt, that her mate is locked away, with very little evidence of being awakened anytime soon.

Almost as if she is on auto-pilot, she dresses, preparing for her day, thoughts stuck on her beloved. Finally, as she stands before her mirror she comes out of her thoughts to stare at her reflection. Her color has paled a bit, due to the lack of sunlight, as well as the distance between her and her mate. She bites her lip, turning her face back and forth, eyeeing the slightly hollowed cheek bones. The deadened eyes, paled skin, thinning cheekbones, and obvious dark cloud looming above her forehead made it clear. She wasn't doing the best, and she missed her mate terribly. The distance, like any mated couple was steadily getting worse the longer they remained apart.

She growled and glared at the reflection, turning her back on the depressed and broken female she saw in the mirror. What did she know about pain and heartbreak? She was a stupid reflection, Aymelek was the real deal and she had to be the one to carry the burden. She growled softly as she pulled her hair into a ponytail.

From her desk she swipes the folder of Cadet Ryker Treysaunt. Her eyes scan the papers avidly. Her head tilting slightly as she looks at his picture. He was a handsome fellow. Nice cheekbones, dirty blonde hair, blue eyes. In a way sort of both baby faced and masculine. He was a catch, Aymelek wouldn't lie. She snorted at her thoughts as her inner wolf flicked her ear.

'Oh please, as if he could ever measure up to our male.' the wolf snickered.

"So very true." Aymelek nodded her agreement, as she quickly memorized the males day to day activity schedule. With a sigh she would exit the room, locking the door, before making her way through the shadowy halls. Time for the hunter to do what she did best, observe her prey.

By the end of the day, Aymelek was more worn out than normal. She reached her room, that night, her mind buzzing. The male did nothing out of the ordinary.

• He ate in the mess hall

• worked out with the other squad males

• went to his classes

• ate in the mess hall again

• spent an hour and a half in his room

• went and worked out by himself

• ran track with another squad member

• went to final classes

• ate dinner in the mess hall

• had a beer with 2 or 3 squad mates

• got his daily physical

• returned to his dorm by lights out

She sighed looking at the notes she had written. A groan slipped out as she scrubbed her face with her palms.

"This is so stupid. I'm not going to learn jack by just watching him." She spoke aloud, looking at the mirror on the other side of the room. Her reflection simply stared her, mimicking every movement. Internally, her wolf opened a single neon teal iris.

'Mate will not like us gallavanting with other male.' The wolf growled softly.

"It's not gallavanting. Besides, Jericho will understand once I explain everything. He trusts me, besides, what choice do I have." Aymelek responded in a soft whisper, breaking eye contact with her reflection, guilt bubbling in her eyes like two whirling pools.

'Don't like it, but do whatever it takes for mate.' The wolf sighed and curled up, closing her eyes once more.

"Yea... me too." Aymelek stated back. Rising she prepared herself for bed, retreating to her cot. Curling up, thoughts of her male cascaded her mind. She fell asleep, her thoughts wrapped solely upon him with a single promise.

Soon.
