Chapter 6: Chapter #6

AN: I don't know how this shit works despite going to college and I am too lazy to properly look it up.

And seriously, saying your character is getting a PhD and somewhat smart then accidentally making him do stupid shit because you're a shitty writer is getting to me.

________

Seasons passed and years went by without anyone truly noticing. Zeno had just graduated from Harvard with a Biochemistry degree.(AN: Does Harvard even have Biochemistry department?)

On the other hand Tony had retired from the stock market after Zeno graduated at the age of 18 and gave a sizable amount of money to Zeno.

He announced that it was thanks to Zeno that he could get into stock's market, ruining Zeno's goals to have just the right amount of fame.

'He ruined my plans...'

[I don't think having fame has anything to do with this...]

'But being disposable is important if you want juicy secrets.'

[...]

Tony ignored Zeno's glare as he packed his bags before going to Hawaii. He was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, so he decided to quietly pass on without bothering anyone.

Seeing that his plans were trashed Zeno threw the caution out the window and directly bought all the CryNet Stocks he could buy while announcing he wanted to become a Biotechnologist.

Let's just say he confused a lot of people the only thing that was worth noting was that Jacob Hargreave congratulated him through a public announcement, saying;

"One must do the job they love even if they have to buy the business for it."

It appears that Zeno came off as someone that would buy the whole McDonald's just to become a cook but Zeno didn't care and focused on his studies.

High School was still easy but shit got real after he came to college. Biochemistry wasn't his previous shitty degree. He barely had enough time to sleep, he studied hard to pass.

Zeno didn't even have time to eat nor socialize. It was truly fortuitous that he didn't need to eat otherwise he'd have to drop his grades.

'If only I was smarter. Keeping over 3.5 GPA is hard as hell.' Zeno lamented as his natural talent hit a wall.

[...The fact that you are not being

sarcastic pisses me off. Sometimes, I really want to strangle you.] System rebuked.

Someone who barely made it through college previously making it to Harvard was shocking enough and this guy isn't even satisfied with his GPA.

By the time Zeno decided on his next step after graduation, he was already on the board of directors in CryNet.

It wasn't a powerful enough seat to change company decisions but it was enough to get him work in the labs.

With his Biochemistry degree Zeno started to work in the biopharmaceutical department as a biological technician.

Zeno spent three years there getting necessary experience before he could start to work on his master's degree in biotechnology.

They mostly worked on body enhancing agents that Zeno knew would be used on Nanosuit.

Zeno even worked on his blood and developed another agent that increased the natural recovery speed of the body by increasing nutrient consumption.

He had to turn it synthetic to make sure the source would be kept hidden but the drug worked.

It was a massive hit, unfortunately Zeno lacked the education to further his research towards nanotechnology, so he finally took a leave to handle his master's degree.

Three year of hell was about to start and Zeno discovered the amount of work he has to put in so far.

And oh boy, he didn't realize it until now but he basically didn't have a life.

Zeno stood over his balcony, watching the stars. He had been wondering whether he should take a little break.

[You're not getting cold feet are you lazybones?]

'I have been working and studying for years... My age reached over 50 in total. I am still a virgin, have no friends and I am pretty sure I have several mental disorders from all the shit I went through.'

[You'll take the next world as vacation... I'll make sure to put you in an easy place.] System comforted Zeno.

Being a system meant he didn't have to bother with bothersome things like sanity and could focus on being the funny guy.

At least the poor thing was trying...

While Zeno was sighing to himself a warm current passed through his mind and relaxed him.

'Time to sleep I guess.' Zeno thought.

This warmth was a warning for him to sleep. The last time he ignored it, he passed out on his own and experienced some of his previous life's memories.

Going through the life of a naive child able to hear the voice of heaven impacted Zeno mentally.

Zeno made sure to not go through that again without being able to ensure his mental stability. He didn't want his personality to change.

[Goodnight!]

_______

After three years and many nights spent crying since he can't get drunk. Zeno was able to get his Master's degree in biotechnology while continuing to work on his recovery agent.

The synthetic drug based on his own regenerative abilities was first trial tested on monkeys before the human experiments had begun.

By the time he got his degree CryNet was selling a weakened version of the drug in the form of a pill.

Only after that Zeno was offered a chance to work on the Nanosuit itself. He had to sign many privacy contracts.

He was advised to move to Roosevelt Island. He also had some private meetings with Hargreave himself.

The man has yet to be turned into a frozen vegetable, it appears that his recovery agent had helped Hargreave to recover his battered body.

It explained why they got Zeno accepted in the main project. Hargreave wanted more of that good shit to delay his cryogenic sleep.

His drug opened many doors when it came to human experiments during the  production of the Nanosuit as the subjects could recover faster than before.

Zeno hoped to integrate the drug into the suit itself to increase the natural recovery speed of the suit like a Maximum Recovery mode.

Hargreave was probably thinking the same judging by how enthusiastic he was.

'Nah, doesn't sound cool as Maximum Armor or Maximum Power.' Zeno was disappointed by his naming sense.

Shaking his head Zeno went back to the latest reports about the strength tests made by the lab.

'You know what they say. Number of human experiments is equal to the degree of progress.'

[You seriously need to see a therapist...] System sounded serious.

'Maybe in the next life.' Zeno replied as he dropped the report.

He still has to fill the forms for his PhD. He will be making his PhD on nanotechnology so he can understand the project better.

'How long does a PhD take again?' Zeno asked.

[Around four to seven years...] System replied.

Zeno looked at the calendar before nodding as he saw that he only had 12 years before the events of the first game.

'Let us say I took seven years on my PhD that leaves me with five years to the events of the game...'

[It should be enough.]

'It is enough, maybe I can stick to weapons training in those five years. In my previous life I never used a gun after all.' Zeno agreed with the system before going back to the forms.
