The massive gorilla-looking creature strolled out of the bushes and looked down at Senna with the most terrifying expression he had ever seen on an animal.
"Holy hell, where did it come from?!"
«Warning: Unknown entity detected. Parameter: Hostile. Advice: Analysis.»
He didn't understand what it was trying to advise. 'Analysis? As in, checking the status of others?'
How would that help? It was already clear that this beast was dangerous.
"Grraaagh!!" The gorilla roared and beat its chest like a drum.
*BOOM BOOM*
Senna could feel the reverberation in the air and the ground it caused. That showed just how powerful the creature was.
"F-Fuck! Use analysis or whatever, quick!"
«Accessing Eldritch God's Blessing… Analysis activated.»
A transparent window appeared in his vision, tagging and following the gorilla around as he saw it. It was truly just like a video game.
< Count Silverback >
< Big bipedal primate monster native to the forests of Helena Kingdom. Ferocious and carnivorous. Has a high noble status in simian society. Perpetually insecure about the size of his phallus >
That information didn't help him at all. What a useless ability. The only one it would help would be a writer of an encyclopedia book.
As Senna cursed the pointlessness of it all, he heard the rustling of leaves from all around him. In no time at all, he was greeted by a full-blown party of monstrous Silverback gorillas that came out between the trees.
Around 10 or so of them had shown themselves. Each one of them had a vicious face completely unlike the docile one the gorilla from his original world had.
How did he know that? Had Senna ever seen a Silverback gorilla before? No, part of his killing-time avocation was about watching funny animal videos on MyTube. That platform was the source of most of his trivia.
In any case, these Silverback monsters in front of him were bad news. His instinct told him that he should get the hell out of there as soon as possible.
"Grraagh!"
"Ungga Bugga!!"
The biggest one between them—the one Senna analyzed, Count Silverback—fiercely growled to his friends. Were they communicating with each other?
*Bitch Slap*
Count Silverback used his massive hand to deal a painful-looking backhanded slap to another gorilla closest to him.
'Infighting? Maybe they aren't actually friends, after all,' Senna deduced silently.
If that was true, that meant it was his chance to hightail it.
"Kuh!"
Turning his jean-clad rear on them, Senna sprinted back toward his beloved sedan. The terrain looked terrible for a car to drive through but it still seemed better than running away on foot.
Not to mention he wouldn't abandon his car now after everything he went through.
"Ungga! Grraaaghh!!"
An angry roar came from the gorillas' direction. He didn't even need to glance behind to know that the monstrous primates were now chasing after him.
*Clack Brook* Senna quickly climbed into his car and slammed the door close. With familiar movement, he rapidly turned the car key.
"C'mon, girl. Help me out of this mess."
In fiction, it wouldn't be strange for his car to fail him now when he was in a crisis. That cliche was so prevalent that it felt like an unspoken rule.
But the reality was unexpectedly kind to him. He was a Taxi Driver, and starting a car's engine was his specialty!
*Vroom*
The Avalon's GR V6 engine roared to life. As expected of his car, Senna knew that it couldn't possibly disappoint him after the meticulous care he gave to it over the years.
*BAM BAM*
The relief was short-lived, however. The alarming sounds of his car getting beaten by the gorillas assaulted his ears.
They had caught up to him and were now surrounding the sedan in all directions.
"Damn you, get your furry hands away from my car!" Senna shouted in anger.
How unforgivable for them to dirty his girl with their dirt-stained hand. The sensation of wanting to punish them thoroughly rose inside him.
But then—Crash! One of the oversized monkeys managed to break one of his windows in the back seat.
"Fuck! You've done it now!"
*SCREECH*
Senna unreservedly drove his car backward and pushed away some of the gorillas.
The simian only had limited intelligence and they never saw or understood the concept of a modern car before. It was natural that they wouldn't expect that the sedan could suddenly move.
A few of the unlucky ones in the back of the car were casually brought down and got run over.
«System Alert: You defeated 3 Knight Silverbacks and received 3 PP.»
"What?!" Senna exclaimed. "What PP?!"
«Apologies. It is an abbreviation of the term Progression Point. It can be used to strengthen your power and abilities.»
Oh… That was a relief to hear. He briefly assumed that it stood to mean something completely different.
It would be absurdly disconcerting to be receiving a Silverback's notoriously pitiful excuse of manhood as a drop item or something.
"Wait, I killed them?" The realization hit him like the demon truck from the night before. "Is that even possible?"
It was hard to believe a sedan had enough power to push these muscular beasts down, never mind three of them at once. He knew his own car better than anyone else, except maybe the car dealer and manufacturer.
Senna doubted the Avalon could manage such a feat.
*BAM*
The skepticism in his mind was interrupted by another bashing of his car's frame, this time even more strongly than before. Seeing their kind getting killed must've roused their temper.
"I said knock it off!" Senna was not losing in the temperament department, however. He was naturally as angry as them due to how much his beloved car was getting smashed up.
Stepping on the gas, the black sedan lunged forward like a cat who found a mouse. It quickly collided with the clumps of gorillas in front of it. "Woah, what the heck?! When did you become so feisty?"
One, two, three, five, seven, ten. The sedan mercilessly drove through the beasts like a runaway train. It was frankly an unbelievable sight even for Senna, the driver.
«Eight Knight Silverbacks and two Baron Silverbacks defeated. You received 12 PP.»
He was reaping these Progression Points like a combine harvester plowing through a wheat field. His body grew hot and sweltering, and a sensation like getting poured with warm water could be felt all over his skin.
"Wha… t?" His vision was getting blurry. Something definitely wasn't right.
"Rrraagh!!"
The car rattled. Glancing behind, Senna saw Count Silverback gripping his car through the broken window frame with his massive hands. Amazingly, he managed to stop the sedan.
"Let me go, you oversized ape!" Senna cursed. The effort was as futile as the average mixer, the gorilla ignoring him like a random chump invited just to inflate the head count.
He began to crawl over his car, likely trying to subdue the metallic beast using his weight.
"Nu-uh, you idiot! Who said you can get a free ride?!"
Since his car wasn't being held back anymore, Senna accelerated again.
Across the decaying ruins, over the eroded paved roads, he began to make abrupt turns, jolts, and brakes in an effort to throw the gorilla off. But so far, the great ape proved to be far too tenacious.
"Dammit!"
The car's roof began to buckle from the oppressive weight it had to endure. If Senna let this go on, he would sooner or later get crushed inside his own car.
"No way that'll be my end!"
Looking around in panic, he saw in the distance a stone pillar that dangerously leaned toward one side—like the Tower of Pisa, only way smaller. In a moment of epiphany filled with either brilliance or reckless stupidity, Senna decided to steer toward it.
With determination, he would strike headlong into the base of that pillar and cause it to fall. The plan was to use it to somehow crush Count Silverback and eliminate him once and for all.
Senna didn't want to do this. Along with the hot sensation crawling over his body and the dizziness in his head, a heavy pang of guilt rapidly came over him over this decision. It made him nauseous.
"I'm sorry," the soft apology left his mouth. The beat-up sedan let out a whirl of its engine as if it was a response.
Senna skillfully turned the car around to aim for the pillar. A good reflex and gut were needed for this plan to succeed.
He was confident, however. The hundreds of hours he put into playing Big Theft Auto had trained him for this exact maneuver.
"Buckle up, big boy! It's gonna get bumpy!"
Sweats gushed out of his forehead like a geyser. It had become hard for him to even focus his sight at this point. The headache was killing him.
The wheels of his car spun like a tornado as they carried Senna and his oversized illegal passenger. It took no time at all for them to close in on the tilting pillar.
"Kah!!" (Now!)
He opened the driver's door and unhesitatingly threw himself out. His body struck the cracked cobblestone hard and inflicted him with pain far worse than he imagined.
*CRASH* The sound of his Avalon colliding with the pillar rang clear across the ruined complex.
"Rrrraarg!!"
It seemed Count Silverback felt it too. He let out a howl that sounded angry and pained at the same time.
"Urgh… Guh." Senna pushed his battered body up to look at his handiwork. Count Silverback didn't seem to notice the stone pillar slowly falling over his head.
"Heh. Stupid."
His consciousness was failing him. The pain and headache were now so intense he wanted to just faint there and then. But what would happen if he was knocked out and then another enemy appeared?
Senna didn't want to think about it.
A heavy thud and sounds of his car being broken frame by frame reached his ears. He apologized again toward the faithful sedan that had accompanied him all these long years.
*BOOOM*
Was that an explosion? How dramatic. It was just a falling pillar. No matter how you think about it, exploding just because of that was overkill.
«Alert: You have defeated Count Silverback, a high-ranking monster. The Divine Vessel 'Avalon' is destroyed. Salvaging… You received 15 PP.»
'Shut up, dammit. I… God, my head—'
A last bout of stinging pain was the last thing Senna felt before he blacked out.
