Chapter 1: CHAPTER 4: HOME

The Hover Mobile stopped at a house in the Western District after five minutes of what felt like light speed travel. That's how fast we were moving. I disembarked the Hover Mobile with wobbly legs, I wasn't used to travelling that fast. Despite all the wooziness I was experiencing a large smile graced my lips. I felt like a child on Christmas morning, yeah it was confirmed, I needed this marvel of technology in my life as soon as possible.

As I collected my luggage from the back of the car I looked at this body's supposed house. What entered my gaze first of all was a large wall stretching for up to 100 metres in both directions and 5 metres tall. In the centre of this wall was a gate that stood 5 metres from the ground up, effectively dwarfing me. Right above the gate was a plaque with the words " HOUSE OF GARRETT" written and placed in a beautiful arch.

As I walked through the gate I was greeted with the sight of a large open courtyard filled with lawn in all directions. I saw a driveway leading to the house which was placed in the centre of the yard like the centrepiece to a beautiful art display. Flowers of various kinds and colours lined both sides of the driveway, giving it a cheerful and lively accent. I trudged on towards the house luggage in hand, taking in the beauty on display for me, I still couldn't believe this was my house. I eventually arrived at the door of my villa and lifted my hand to knock, but before I could do so the door swung open.

I was greeted with the sight of an old man who bowed and did a bow.

"Greeting Master"

I quickly checked my memories and came to a quick conclusion, grey hair and beard, unprecedented elegance, sharp eyes despite his old age. I came to the conclusion that this was old man right here was Alfios, my butler and personal bodyguard. Alfios was a bodyguard who's been with me since the day I was born and was a key part to the survival of Blake Garrett. How di Blake have a butler since childhood you ask?

Well the previous owner of this body Blake Garrett was the son of the current Family head of the Garrett family, one of the four Great Families of Grastia. The villa in front of him was a gift from his parents after he decided to move away from the family and make his own path in life, which was kinda stupid considering that the property may be in his name but its still under the influence of the Garrett family. I wonder if I can get them to back off just in case they try something funny? But that's a different problem for a different day.

I looked towards Alfios and merely nodded my head towards his bow.

"Greetings Alfios, I trust you have been well." I responded

"I'm afraid I must report the opposite master"

"Oh"

" You see ever since this old man found out you were in hospital, he hasn't had even a wink of sleep. I wished to check on you but Old Master and madam declined my request stating that I had many duties that needed my attention at the time."

" Its ok Alfios, as you can see Alfios I'm in good health and have made an almost full recovery."

"Almost?"

"Yes Alfios, almost. According to the doctor who treated me my mana network underwent a reset. Meaning my rank has also reset, meaning I'm now basically a G-Rank."

"I'm sorry to hear that master, is there anything I can do to help." Alfios said, his voice laced with worry.

My heart instantly warmed at that statement. "Well Alfios I am really going to need your help. I need you to keep this secret between us. If word of this got out, then my enemies might try to capitalise on this opportunity and try to get rid of me."

"As you wish master. This way to your room sir." He said as he took a slight bow. He said as he turned around and led me into the house. We trudged along in the long wingding corridors of the house as he helped me to my room. I almost felt like a guest in a hotel and not in a house that supposedly belongs to me.

Although I enjoyed the silence I felt a bit uncomfortable without telling Alfios my current decision and circumstance. So I decided to bit the bullet and do just that.

"Before I forget, I've also accepted a teaching position at the Hero Academy."

"May I ask why Master?"

"A lot of reasons actually, some of which I didn't think of until I was on my way here. First of which is money. It's a good paying job."

"But isn't money something the family has in excess supply master?"

"Exactly, it's the family's money. Part of me finding a path for myself involved being independent. I want everything I do, every accomplishment, every failure, every victory, every loss to be mine. Is it selfish of me? Yes it is. Should I care that if its selfish? Probably. But do I care that it's selfish? Absolutely not."

"What's the second reason then master?"

"Its simple really. After taking in the circumstances and after assessing every possible solution to my problems, both immediate and farther into the future. I realised that it would be the safest place, in terms of security and influence."

"So what is saying is that your enemies can't get to you due to the Academy's influence and you wil be secure despite your low rank and be able to earn a living. But I am curious master. Can't you get a better job if you applied for it elsewhere."

"Look at me Alfios and tell me what skills have I ever learnt besides monster hunting apart from politics and literature, since you've known me? Exactly."

"But Master, is that part of the reasons not to go into teaching?"

"That…is not important at the moment Alfios."

"Its ok to admit you're wrong master, no one will judge you for it."

"Again Alfios, that's not important."

"Alright Master, do as you wish. Your room master." He said as he stopped in front of a door. He reached for the handle and pushed the door slightly. Letting it slide open as it revealed what was behind it.

If I was asked to pick one phrase for what entered my eyes, I would say… "Mesmerising Luxury". From the ornamental chairs and tables made from steel tree wood, the carpet made from the fur of a Death Bear and the sparkling floor made from tiles I don't even know the names of. The bed was extremely large. Calling it a king sized bed would be considered an insult and I would promptly and swiftly attack that person if he dared to utter such nonsense. It was an Emperor sized bed, yeah let's go with that for now. An emperor sized bed with black coloured blankets adorning it. Looking at how comfortable it looked and damn it I wanted to flop right on to it. Thinking about it now, this kind of luxury is to be expected considering that the people who built this house are in fact the Garrett family, my family, yeah its still weird thinking of them like that.

I looked towards Alfios and asked to inform me when it was time to eat. With a bow, he turned to leave, but not before informing that one of the maids would come to help me with my luggage.

Once he left I thought it was the perfect time to immediately belly flop onto the emperor sized bed. So to recap, I have a villa, a butler, come from a rich family (which the previous owner of this seems to dislike) and a bunch of servants at my disposal.

I don't think this life is going to turn that bad right, right?
