Chapter 2: Chapter Two

Bill watched in horror as he killed the child. How could he have been so heartless enough so to murder a child?! He turned away vowing silently to come back later to give them a proper burial.

The young boy ran forward and attacked Peter

"Asshole! Your orders were to take prisoners! Not kill!" He punched his stomach a few times. Haruno felt her heart sink at the sight of her sister's body. Her shoulders trembled as her eyes were wide and glued on her and the blood. Yuki..sweet and innocent Yuki..she would never see her sister again. Peter looked down at the boy and laughed some "oh boy, you really don't know why we were here do you? We were here for her!" He yelled pointing to Haruno who silently cried in the cage. "She is the only one the boss cares about. And if she is left to run free no telling what she could do to us." He sneered some as he lifted the boy up by his collar "so you better rethink on who you attack you hear? We took you in, fed you and clothed you. Show some respect." He snarled before throwing him into the dirt near the cage.

He huffed falling to the ground hard and looked at Haruno sadly before mouthing. "I'm sorry..." He got up and dusted off his clothes. "Load her up!" Peter cried out to the rest of the men as he lit a match "Bill get the gasoline." He looked over to his partner expectantly.

"We didn't bring any gasoline though because believe it or not, the boy is right. We only came for prisoners.." Bill said as he looked at Peter with a hard glare

"Then I'll burnt this field down and hope the house catches too!" He yelled out throwing the match into the dry field. In an instant the flowers and everything burst into flames and the sky was filled with smoke "Besides. We got what we came for. Now let's go already." Bill nodded sadly and lead the boy back to the caravan and pushed him against the cage before sitting down and watching the fire.

The boy rubbed his head and looked at Haruno. "Im sorry.. " Haruno choked out sobs as she watched the flowers burn. She looked at the boy an curled up in the cage "n..no you're not..." she whimpered.

"I dont know they would do this.." he replied with the same fear she had in her own voice.

"Ju..Just shut up.." She growled as she turned her back to him. She didn't want anything to do with him or the other men. Not when he was associated with the one responsible for killing her sister and her mother...and with burning her home and the flowers. They had done nothing to these men! So why were they attacking!? He flinched. "I'm not like them...they took me too.." he bit his lip. "I dont believe you...why arn't you treated like me?" She asked shooting a glare over her shoulder at him. Her dark Auburn hair that was like copper draped over her back and shoulders some, falling in her face. "I dont know..but i really am sorry for what happened and i swear on my life I'll free you." He whispered to her.

"That wont ever be possible..I've no home to return to. No family..." she said quietly "its pointless." She started to cry softly.

"I can be your family." He tried to comfort her.

"Why..?" She asked as she glanced up to him her cheeks red along with her nose. Her eyes were puffy and her shoulders trembled. He reached into the cage. "Because i don't want to see you cry anymore.." She withdrew from his hand and stared at it. "I..I dont even know where we are going..and I don't even know you. Why would my crying bother you?"

"Because im just a kid like you.." he pulled his hand back before he was slammed against the bars. One man growled at him to shut up. Haruno's eyes traveled to the man who slammed the boy against the cage. She narrowed her eyes some before hiding her face.

It wasn't long before she could hear them stopping. She looked up and sighed. They were only stopping for the night. She watched them set up camp, moving her cage off to the side before gathering around a campfire. At the smell of food, her stomach growled but she ignored it as she laid on her side to try to go to sleep. There was no way they'd share with her. The boy groaned and held his head he had a bruise forming on his cheek but otherwise didn't call back or complain. The men soon finished their meals and doused the fire. There were a small scrap of the stew left in the pot but they didn't think anything of it as they left it over the smoldering coals. She gripped her stomach to silence it. She whimpered some looking down at it some.

The boy noticed and snuck out the stew in a bowl and slipped it to her when they weren't looking. She looked over to him as he brought her the bowl. Her stomach growled again in protest making her whimper. "Why a..are you helping me...?"

I told you I'm going to save you..these are bad men.." he spoke softly. "Can I know your name?" She sighed pressing her back against the bars. She stared into the bowl as she began to eat "i..its Haruno." She said in a quiet voice "but I don't understand why you want to save me. I'm a monster. A dragon hybrid."

"I don't see you as a monster Haruno..i see a scared and angry girl." He looked at her with soft green eyes. She wiped her eyes some as she looked back at him, her lavender eyes filled with pain and sadness "then..why..why are they doing this?"

"I wish I knew...I really do... but I promise somehow Ill set you free." He reached out again even knowing she probably wouldn't touch back but he needed her to know she had at least one friend in this cruel world. She looked back to him as he tried reaching out to her again. She pulled back some with the bowl. Her eyes narrowed some as she saw Peter come up "I'd stay away from her Mac. She's a wild one for sure." The boy, now called Mac, eyes widened and he pulled away from the cage. "I don't believe that...she's just a kid like me...you'll only make her wild by putting her in a cage..." He spoke up bravely despite knowing he might get a beating for that.He narrowed his eyes and whacked him upside the head "mind your tongue. She's half dragon...get it in your head. She can't love like you or I. Now clean up camp you ingrate."

Mac stumbled and fell back before spitting up blood. "Y-yes sir.." he cast a sad glance at Haruno before getting up and picking up some trash and throwing it into the fire. Peter grunted some as he moved away from them to get ready for bed himself.

Haruno looked on at them before turning to her bowl and licked at her fingers as she tried to get what the spoon couldn't. He stomach growled again but she was thankful for what she had. Mac stumbled every now and then as he cleaned up camp his vision swam a bit from all the beatings he had that day. Haruno watched him with lavender eyes. Could..she really trust him? She looked at the bowl before crawling over to the other side. She pushed the bowl through the bars an laid it on the ground before curling up in a ball. She shivered some closing her eyes. Mac picked up the bowl and slipped her his cape to use as a blanket before finishing his tasks.

She instinctively pulled his cape closer, trying to get warm. She was used to sleeping next to her sister. Tears rolled down her cheeks some as she whimpered in her sleep. She muttered her sisters name, the events filling her mind through nightmares. Mac listened as he settled down close to her. Poor girl would never have sweet dreams. If only he was allowed into the cage with her.
