Chapter 18: 17. First day... Detention!
Ah, The smell of a brand new day.
Who doesn't love it?
Well, Chen Jingyun didn't.
Last night she might have...slept a little bit too late. She was filled with excitement, anticipation, and nervousness, thinking about her first day at school... as a boy.
She was also wondering how to change Li Minghao's mind about her sexuality... But that was secondary to the pain she felt after running to and from the court!
Terrible mistake.
The combination of these things resulted in a terrible mood.
When she was woken up by her roommates, she wasn't grateful. Instead, it looked like a demon had taken over her body.
"Oi, do you want me to shave your eyebrows off?"
It was safe to say after this morning they wouldn't try to wake her up again.
However, thanks to her refusal to wake up early... she was now running late!
Running across the school hallways, Chen Jingyun dashed through classrooms as she looked for hers.
"Eleven A, Eleven A..." She chanted in her mind as she glanced at the golden plates placed above each door.
When she finally got to her designed classroom, she could already feel the embarrassment creeping to her ears.
The first day and she was ridiculously late.
Great.
Catching her breath, Chen Jingyun made a few last fixes to her appearance before knocking on the door and making her appearance.
Hopefully, the homeroom teacher was nice and forgiving...
She knocked twice and opened the door. Popping her head into the room, she was met with every eye looking at her with wonder, curiosity, interest, ridicule, and... disappointment from the teacher.
Sighing, Chen Jinyun opened the door wide and offered her best of smiles.
"Good morning-"
BAM!
Slamming into her, wiping the smile off her face, two guys knocked her out of the frame. One was a bulky guy that had a disheveled appearance yet carried a cheeky smile, and the other one wore glasses and looked neat despite all the running. He also looked immensely annoyed.
They were polar opposites of each other.
"Teacher Wu, We're very sorry for running late. Can you let us go this once?" The bulky guy held a sheepish smile as he joined his palms to beg.
By his side, the neat looking guy only covered his face and seemed to silently curse his friend. Instead, he turned towards her and offered a helping hand.
"Sorry." He quietly apologized.
Chen Jingyun huffed, she wanted to complain. She was feeling very sore!
But it was not a suitable time.
Pouting in anger, Chen Jingyun took his hand and got up from the floor.
Shaking his head, the teacher continued to sermon them for their tardiness, lack of responsibility, and conscience as students.
In the end, he nailed in the punishment.
"The three of you... detention!"
Just great.
One thousand hours of sleep- class- later, Chen Jingyun was stuck with cleaning duty with her detention buddies.
They were Long Tang and Long Rao. One was all brawns and the other was brains.
"We're not family." Long Rao, the neat guy, immediately interjected. "Thankfully."
"Hey! But we are roommates and brothers! Remember when I looked after you when you were all sick and disgusting? Yup, that's me!" Long Tang shot back indignantly as he cleaned the whiteboard with great effort. The poor board seemed to shake.
"That did not happen." Long Rao denied profusely as he arranged the seats. "You know what? I'm going to change roommates. You're too messy."
Turning around with great hurt in his face, Long Tang pointed at him. "You-"
Cleaning in the background of this lover's quarrel, Chen Jingyun could only snicker at them. She wondered how these two became friends. So different, stubborn, and hard-headed.
She would rather not get close to them.
Grabbing onto the broom, Chen Jingyun began to sweep the floor quietly. She was going to finish her task and leave them be.
But, oh lord, they had different plans.
"Hey, Shorty, what's your room number?"
Looking up, Chen Jingyun pointed at herself.
"Me?"
"Yeah, who else is short here?" Long Tang laughed.
Right.
"Well, I'm in Room 520."
"Ooh, romantic numbers." Long Tang cooed. "I love you too, Shorty!"
Resisting the urge to puke, Chen Jingyun glance at Long Rao with pity.
This is what you have to put up with every day?
Almost defeated, Long Rao asked her.
"You've got any free bed?"
It wasn't sure if he showed hope or desperation in his eyes.
"Nope." Chen Jingyun shook her head with pursed lips.
I can't save you, buddy.
"Guess you are staying with me, Long Rao." Long Tang laughed heartily as he approached his friend with open arms as if he was about to hug him.
Groaning, Long Rao pushed him.
"Go away!"
"No-oh!" Long Tang chased after him.
In the end, Long Tang got to embrace Long Rao and the classroom looked even messier than before.
Ah, this was going to take longer than expected.
Finishing their cleaning duties, Chen Jingyun was prepared to part ways and never look back.
"I'll get going now, bye." She took a step towards freedom and sanity.
However, Long Tang had different plans. He slung his arm over her shoulders and dragged her to a completely different destination.
This guy was too rowdy!
"It's already 6 pm, let's just go eat dinner together. Ah... I'm so hungry."
Sighing, Long Rao sent an apologetic look at her. She looked dead inside like hope had left her body.
"Long Tang, you didn't even ask him if he wanted to come along with us."
"Of course he would want to come with us, right?" Long Tang looked at her with a bright smile.
It was brimming with happiness and confidence.
Looking at that face, Chen Jingyun didn't find it in herself to reject him.
Ah, she was successfully guilt-tripped...
"Y-yes."
"Oh well." Long Rao raised his eyebrows. "Let's just go."
"See? I told you the new guy like us!"
"If I were you I would reconsider..." Long Rao commented but he was totally ignored.
Long Tang laughed heartily. "Ah, we like you too little guy. You ever considered joining a gang?"
Frozen in a headlock, Chen Jingyun looked up with alarm.
"Excuse me, what?"
