Chapter 2: •1•

//On planet, Eris//

It's a bright morning. The sky the lightest tint of blue as the fluffy clouds take their positions. The sun shines. Beams as it chases away the darkness of the night before. Rays stretching as they shine through the white curtains of a bedroom. It's time to wake up, time to wake up indeed, and the little princess does just that, a shrill of a squeal escaping her plump little lips as she claps her chubby hands. She's ready for the day!

"Aww aren't you the sweetest little thing." A male coos, his chiseled face peeking up into the crib, staring into his daughter's eyes. They're big and round and if you gaze into them for quite a while, you just might lose yourself.

"I bet you're the happiest you can be today huh?" The man sighs,"Can't believe it's been a year....and yet you refuse to talk!" He playfully whines, craning his arm to tickle his baby's belly as she erupts into loud gurgles and giggles.

"Da-da!" She says between them and the man freezes, eyes widened, mouth dropping and body now stagnant.

Suddenly a high pitched (girly?) squeal echoes around the castle's walls, footsteps rushing into the room at the very sound.

"Your highness are you alright?!" Another male asks, recapturing his breath until he notices the King practically bouncing off the walls.

"She did it! She did it! She.did.it!" He yells.

"Did what?" The other male raises his eyebrow.

Soon the King trots up towards him in jolly steps.

"This guy right here, Malor, has just been promoted to 'Dada' now." He points his fingers at himself happily. Malor shakes his head and coughs out a laugh.

"Really? Congratulations, your highness. Guess it's a special day for the both of you." He grins and the King jogs his head up and down vigorously like a bobblehead.

"But now it's time to put on some clothing and be on our way, sire." The king wears an expression of confusion before going back to poking and playing with his daughter.

"Where are we going?"

"Don't you recall Queen Satyra holding a party in Eris' right sector for the princess's first birthday, sire?"

"Oh. Right. My mistake." He clears his throat, "Very well. We shall get ready immediately after breakfast—"

"—But sire, shouldn't we head out earl—"

"—Yes after breakfast. A king always needs his food. I don't intend on being snappy on my daughter's birthday." He glares at his royal advisor, the male catching his words in his throat at the fact that yes the king is pretty snappy when hungry. He easily recalls the previous incidents, those of which are uncomfortable and...quite terrifying if thought about thoroughly. Malor shivers, traumatized still.

"Alright now." The King rubs his hands together before clapping them once, "Where's my clothing?"

"We have the Quettas, Queyas, Quinns and Quaints." A fairly aged woman says as she points to the different flowers presented. "Oh and I don't know if you wanted the Quacks."

"The Quacks?"

"QUACK! QUACK!" The lady shrieks startling the younger woman to the ground, the other laughing uncontrollably.

"Nice. Really nice. Real mature." The younger dusts off her simple house dress as she walks on. "Would somebody please sweep these halls! If I see another dust bunny, I won't hesitate to decrease someone's salary!" The queen grumbles.

"Oh come on~ lighten up dear. It's a big day and I know you're stressed as can be. So why not have a lil' fun for now? You know, relax a little. If you carry on like this you'd be sporting a headache by supper," The older said wrapping her arms around the other's shoulders. "Don't be so rigid. Smile a bit." She encourages caressing the girl's face.

"I can't mother." The woman inhales and exhales, "I need this to be perfect."

"You know nothing's perfec—"

"—But I would like it to be. He held a sensational one for Solar's first. Now I must outdo him." She clenched her fist at the idea of King Martyr just barely rating her party. It's royal tradition for both sectors to throw a birthday ball for the opposite sector when the sector's child turns one year. But...due to the competitiveness of the current King and Queen's relationship, they've made it their duty to outdo the other, through battles with silly and sometimes serious occasions. Their love for winning overthrowing the loving friendship they obtain.

"Ugh you two and your games. Honestly, who are the real child—" A gasp then elicits from the aged woman's mouth as she stumbles a bit, the younger catching her before she falls letting out a sharp "Mother!" as she holds her.

"A-are you okay?" Her eyes frantically scans her mother's face for any signs of discomfort. The older then giggles softly, "I'm f-fine, okay? I just...felt something."

"What is it?" She replies rather quickly and it makes the elder chuckle some more.

"First, would you please lay off me, Saty?" She queries shaking her head gently but cracking a smile at her daughter's sudden concern. The girl sits up, massaging her nape, cheekily.

"It's nothing my dear, just the golden feather's a bit ruffled okay? There's nothing else to it." She says with a reassuring grin even though it's a lie.

The Queen was pondering hard, even does that quirk in her eyebrows when she's concentrating but as she attempts to speak a little voice calls her name.

"Momma!"

A young boy darts into the ballroom, dodging many of the working staff, eyes skimming the surroundings quickly but refocusing back on his mother and grandmother at the other side. As he runs, his bright blond hair bounce on his back at his actions, tiny feet sprinting as fast as he could.

"M-momma!" He shouts once he comes to a stop in front of the Queen.

"Goodness me! Why on Eris would you be racing like that dear?" His grandmother squawks, clutching the chest of her clothing lightly.

"I-I was going to—"

"Deep breaths, Solar." His mother interrupts and he follows her words, sucking in a breath and exhaling calmly. "Now, you may continue talking."

"I was going to ask you when would Princess Luna be coming?" The boy, known as Solar, asks with a slight twinkle in his eyes at the thought of his new-to-become friend. The Queen giggles shortly, shaking her head as she does.

"Oh Solar~ you already like her? You've only met twice dear." Satyra says and Solar frowns.

"I just want a fwiend~" He crosses his tiny hands across his chest and pouts, his mother cooing at his cuteness. She then reaches out to ruffle his golden locks before stooping to his level.

"I know you do sweetheart, but Princess Luna isn't old enough to play around with you yet. She's just a baby, honey." She reasons and Solar moans in an upset manner.

"But I don't have any fwiends—"

"That's not true! You have me!" His grandmother chirps. "And me." His mother says too.

"Ones who aren't old." And the two gasp, offended expressions plastered onto their faces.

"Since you want to be such a mean fella, no party for you!" The eldest of the three chips, angrily, a tinge of playfulness present.

"Wh-what? No! Please! I'm sorry grandma!" He jumps to hug her legs—that being the only part he could reach at the time being—ever so tightly. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry~" He whines, loudly.

"Oh come here, you brat." She giggles, reaching down to hold him high in her arms. "It's fine, just don't say it again or else.."

"Or else what grandma?" He tilts his head to the side with a confused look on his features, "Or else~"

Immediately, skinny fingers run over his neck and a mouth blows raspberries on his tummy as he burst into fits of laughter, legs kicking out everywhere and arms wiggling wildly in the air. The laughter soon becomes short breaths for air.

"Alright you two!" Satyra grins after marvelling at their moment, "It's time to get ready." She claps happily before pushing them along to get to their respective bedrooms.

Later~...

"Welcome guests and royals, servants and citizens to this glorious event this fine evening." Queen Satyra booms from the center of the staircase. She is dressed in an elegant royal blue dress, the fabric clinging tightly to her slim body making her appear to have an hourglass figure. A small amount of golden fabric littered upon the upper back and sleeves, all leading to a huge bit of gold plastered onto her chest creating a wonderful design heading to the mid stomach. It was long and beautiful, the slit of the dress just reaching mid thigh exposing some skin. She looked ethereal.

Sexy, sweet and fit for a Queen. There isn't anything that can overrun Satyra's sense of style.

"We are gathered here today..to celebrate...the very first birthday of King Martyr's daughter, Luna." The crowd explodes into boisterous clapping and pitched whistles as they holler at the Queen's words and mention of the princess's name.

Behind the Queen stood the King and princess themselves, baby Luna making happy baby noises in her own world as Martyr chuckles at her, eyes refocusing to the humongous crowd before them.

"Ah! What great enthusiasm I see. Now come! Feast and enjoy this wondrous occasion— this beautiful day—with us all! Altogether as one!" She concludes, pumping her fist into the air, everyone else joining her—even little Luna—and that soon cues the nation's anthem to be chanted.

Afterwards, the party officially begins, guests—both royal or not—gallivant around the large room. Bodies free and in pleasure to relief themselves through dance, mingling or just plain eating to their heart's content.

Yes it was a wondrous day, indeed.

+++

"So! " A deep voice rasps in Satyra's ear as she jumps visibly—and a bit dramatically too, "You really outdone yourself, your highness." King Martyr smirks eyeing his childhood best friend with a playful glint in his eyes.

Satyra folds her arms and copies his expression.

"Oh really? Giving up so soon, sire?" She mocks. "Sounds like you've accepted defeat rather quickly." She smirks. Martyr reacts with an incredulous look on his face.

"Mmm~ not quite. I don't recall accepting anything, you may want to tone down your pride, hm?" Satyra sways in a side-to-side motion.

"Well..." She starts, ready to begin their battle, "Let's see. " She gestures towards the well decorated ballroom, all bright and sparkling, golden walls so pristine and elegant, extravagant chandeliers with their candles all lit, beautiful jewels and gems adorning them all.

A large table stretching alongside one of the ballroom's walls, guests mingle; some picking for their plates, others tasting for good measure.

Yes, it really was such a well put together ball. All thanks to the hardworking servants of Eris' right sector.

"And voila. I win." Satyra says all smug, poking out her tongue and blowing raspberries. Martyr rolls his eyes at his friend's behaviour. She's over a couple thousand years old and acting just as childishly as her three hundred year old self. Not to mention, the ballroom is still full with her many guests, some of them eyeing the Queen as if she's lost her sanity. And he genuinely can't blame them. Although, he won't lie, there's been some way more embarrassing times within this friendship but I don't think showing off your different sides to the many eyes in the room is a good idea.

"Enough enough! You prevail!" Martyr sighs, his palm connecting with his forehead as the Queen halts her ministrations before jumping up and down victoriously.

"Yay! Of course I win! I always do! Even if I didn't embarrass you just now—"

"I don't think I was the one embarrassing anyone but themselves just now, Saty." He tussles the top of her head and speeds away after removing her crown.

And it begins.

"Hey!" She whines, "Ooh! Get back here, you thief!" She races off behind him and they both laugh with each other as they sprint out of the room, abandoning their children and guests behind.

All the while, former Queen, Cadenza, hangs in the shadows, alone and peaceful for the moment. She loves the party and adores the way her daughter has grown so well to keep her kingdom positive and happy as they as well adore her too. She's a well grown woman who's well respected and loved as she runs her land her way. As independent and strong as can be.

To which Cadenza sighs, both happily but sadly at the same time, for she has seen it. Seen this beautiful day—beautiful moment slip into one of pure and utter discord. She squeezes her eyes shut, sips the final drop of her Eris-berry wine as its sweet burn travels down her throat, the first terrified scream piercing the party atmosphere before her eyes flicker open again.

It is time.
