Chapter 61: Factions
Shaking her head knowing that this is not the time, Saya looked at Satooji and commented "We have bloody rabbit skins, crimson rabbit, minotaur, purple weasel..."
After naming over 20 different types of beasts, Saya continued "Depending on the level of danger, each skin should have a different price, but now the important thing is... how will you buy these skins?"
"Well..." Recalling the said list, Satooji muttered "Just one centaur skin in good condition is around a million dollars..."
"That's quite a lot of money" Raising her eyebrows, Saya commented.
"It's because the centaur is extremely difficult to find and hunt, has good speed and considerable strength, not to mention that you can only enter this place once a month."
"Only once a month?" frowning slightly, Saya continued "Why is that?"
"May I ask what you know about this place?" With surprise in his eyes, Satooji asked cautiously.
"We haven't been here long, I only know that it's a forest with everything you need to live."
"You know almost nothing..." Nodding, Satooji continued "For starters this forest is believed to be a different dimension to the normal world. It is not known how it was discovered nor who was the first devil to arrive here, but at some point in history this dimension managed to connect with the earth and for devils to mark this place to return became a normality... although this can only happen once a month, when the moon is at its highest point and is shown in all its splendor. Before that it's impossible thanks to a thick, unknown layer of energy that renders all kinds of teleportation magic almost useless, and even weakens magic by 60%."
"It weakens magic?"
"Magic and almost any kind of energy" Nodding, Satooji continued "That's why beasts that have advantages in regeneration and raw power shine in this place. But the fact that beasts in this place can be strong by having almost all of their power limited, makes them outside become much more useful and powerful"
"I see... and that is eliminated once a month, isn't it?"
"Yes, on this day of the month those restrictions are lifted and the devils take advantage of it to come for familiars."
With a thoughtful face, Saya murmured "So until now we've been repressed... that must be why it must be so complicated to handle the powers."
"Well, let's do something" Looking up, Saya looked at the group in front of her and spoke "We'll sell you the furs you want right now and as for the pay, you can pay us in gold that equals the price in dollars"
"It wouldn't be a problem" Nodding with a big smile knowing that he can make big money out of this, Satooji nodded quickly.
Satooji may be a devil with a great deal of experience in this forest.
But that doesn't take away from the fact that he is just another devil of the lowest rank and to make a living he has to risk his life every day.
So it's easy to understand his excitement at the thought that he can trade furs without risk and make a small commission on the profits, something that can certainly bring him more profit in a single month than he would in a year in this place.
After all, the fact that he is a devil doesn't take away the need for money that is even used in hell.
"Well, with that conversed..." Turning her gaze to Rias, Saya continued "As I said before, this dragon is a gift, you will not be charged for it and take it as a gesture of goodwill on our part."
Nodding, Rias replied "I appreciate the gesture, but may I ask you a question?"
"Go ahead."
"You... are you affiliated with the Yokais or the angels?"
'Yokais and angels... I need more information but it won't be a good idea to get it out of rias... Satooji on the other hand... he looks much more naive and with a little intimidation, he'll have no problem blurting it all out' Thinking for a few seconds, Saya commented "With neither of them."
"Neither?" frowning slightly, Rias continued "Are you sure?"
"Just because we have an angel or yokais doesn't mean we will be affiliated with them" Shrugging, Saya continued "You can see us as a neutral point. We will not look out for the interests of either angels, yokais, devils and obviously not that of humans either."
"A neutral faction..." Nodding still unsure, Rias sighed and turned her gaze to the pensive Akeno at her side, then looked at her for a few seconds and turned her gaze back to Saya "Can we come visit you another time?"
"of course you can,, but since you already heard Amarok, I ask that you please don't come back with that brown-haired young man... in fact it's better if you avoid bringing men, so we save trouble" With a stiff smile, Saya nodded.
"We'll remember" Nodding just as stiffly, Rias replied.
"You don't mind?" Cocking her head slightly, Akeno asked suddenly.
"Mn?"
"His behaving like that... I feel that he treats you like an object" Looking at Saya curiously, Akeno commented.
"Treat me like an object?" Raising her eyebrows, Saya thought for a few seconds and shook her head while a bittersweet smile formed on her face "He never treats us like objects, he.... he just has a different view than us... he had his own difficulties in life and therefore his reasoning is very different from ours... but believe me, unlike the boy who came with you, he will never have that kind of behavior and he never showed or will show that kind of look... perverted"
"You seem very confident" Raising an eyebrow, Akeno chuckled softly and continued "I don't know straight man who doesn't have that kind of look, just most usually hide that facet in a disgusting mask."
Laughing softly, Saya shook her head and replied "You just don't know him, if you lived with him for even a day, you would know that he is the furthest thing from what you have in mind, but leaving that aside... how long do they have to stay? Isn't it only supposed to be when the moon is at its highest that you can create portals?"
Opening his eyes a little wider, Satooji looked down quickly and pulled out a watch from his clothes, then sighed, "We still have 30 minutes."
"Do you have a way to take the furs?" looking at the man, Saya asked.
"With magic it's simple" Nodding quickly, Satooji replied.
"Then come with me" Standing up, Saya turned to Rias and commented "Make yourselves comfortable if you want to wait until the end, this is the farewell for now, if you come again, don't forget my conditions."
"See you later" Nodding, Rias turned to Akena and sighed "Let's go, let's make the contract with the dragon in the clubhouse".
Nodding, Akeno stood up and stretched out her hand, so that seconds later, the trio disappeared from the place.
Leaving the hut, Saya turns to Satooji and asks "Do you happen to have a map of the area that you can give me?"
"Of course I do Miss, I have a map of everything traveled and reported publicly" Quickly pulling out a map from his clothes, Satooji hands it to Saya and continues "Although this is what is known on the surface, I know that the major powers must have more areas explored in this place and that they keep it in the dark."
Nodding with understanding, Saya looked at the map for a few seconds and asked "Satooji.... can you tell me what factions are on the outside?"
"You don't know?"
"I'm just a human, I'm not aware of all this" Smiling bitterly, Saya replied.
"No problem" Looking at the furs, Satooji continued "For starters there are many great factions in the world. The heaven faction with the angels and god, the fallen angels faction, the hell faction, the Yokai faction, the vampire faction in Europe, the human magic faction in England, the Nordic gods faction, the general gods faction, which contains Hindu gods such as Indra, Shiva, among others... there are also the Shinto gods, Amateratsu and several others..."
"Actually there are many gods and I couldn't name them all since I don't remember their names... but if I ever hear of a religion, most likely their gods inhabit somewhere... that would be the main thing, but certainly the larger factions are only a handful."
"Heaven, hell, the fallen angels and the Yokai.... those 4 forces are the most numerous and with powerful people among their ranks... although you shouldn't underestimate the Nordic faction and the Hindu faction either."
"I see..." Listening to everything with absolute attention, Saya asked "Do you know anything about Fenrir?"
"Fenrir... who wouldn't know him?" With a strange face, Satooji continued "Legend has it that his teeth can kill gods, destroy celestial dragons and even kill satan... son of loki, a famous terrorist of the nordic faction, it is fortunate that this wolf is sealed and no longer causes trouble".
'So if there is Fenrir here... I guess our Fenrir won't be happy at all if he finds out' Frowning slightly, Saya continued "Anything else I should know?"
"..." Turning his gaze to see the women watching him in the distance, Satooji whispered cautiously "Do you know of the conflicts between the factions?"
"Wars?"
"They are constant" Nodding quickly, Satooji continued "It is very rare to see a group such as yourselves containing several members of different factions... I recommend you to be cautious about this as not all factions will allow what is going on here..."
"I guess they can't marry each other either" Understanding the hidden danger, Saya commented as she tried to find a justification.
"Marrying and giving offspring between different factions is also highly frowned upon... it's not uncommon for them to kill the couple and even the child... there are not a few stories where they chase people wherever they are."
"Even here?"
"There were several who believed that this area was a good choice, but because of that thought it is not uncommon to find dismembered corpses in this forest or bones with human structures, since those people never usually believe rumors about the ferocity of this place" Shrugging, Satooji continued "So usually factions don't usually send people here to hunt down those who escape since they take them for dead"
Nodding in understanding, Saya thought for a few seconds and looked sideways "Which furs are you interested in?"
"The truth is they are all tradable, it all depends on the condition of the furs."
"Mmmm..." Looking at the large amount of animal skins at her sides, Saya turned her gaze to Satooji and continued "Let's do the following, I'll give you 100 skins of your choice to sell on the other side. Next month we meet again and 15% of the profits will be yours."
"Are you interested?" smiling as she noticed the gleam in the man's eyes, Saya continued "If you sell them all, next month we can increase the amount so you can make more income."
"I promise to do my best!" nodding quickly, Satooji asked "Can I choose any?"
"Yes"
"Good" Walking quickly to the pile of furs, Satooji began to separate one by one into a small mountain by his side, so that after 15 minutes, he nodded and wiped the sweat from his forehead.
"Here" Handing a piece of clothing to Satooji, Saya continued "This contains the scent of the man you saw a few minutes ago, whenever you enter the forest, take this with you and this will keep you safe from our wolves. Be sure to keep it stored in some jar to prevent the scent from being released."
