Chapter 4: The Talk
As I walk into the cafeteria I start to look for where Courtney is and head over to her. "Hey Courtney" she turns and gives me a hug with a smiles and we start heading to the line to get our food. Well the food here looks really good for a school. She notices me staring at the food and says that her dad makes sure that all of the kids have a good lunch here and that all of the food tastes good. She adds that no one goes without lunch either. No matter what. That is really nice of her dad. He must be a big shot around here. After we get our food we start walking to a table that is already half full and she takes a seat and looks at me while I stand kind of dumb founded and starts to introduce me to her friends.
"Hey guys, this is Scarlet. Scarlet this is Joe, Tiffany, Kyle, Kate, Tom and Tim, their twins, and my younger brother Kevin. The others will be here soon, and I will introduce you then. Come on sit here next to me I won't bit yet. I laugh and take my seat and start to eat. Tiffany is staring at me and I can't help but notice and look at her and ask not so politely. "Is there a problem? Because a picture might me easier than you staring a hole through me" and the table bust out laughing, with a look of disbelief I turn the Courtney and she leans in and tells me that Tiffany does that to everyone she meets just to see what kind of person they are by their reaction.
"Your strong, with a good heart. You will be very formidable one day." I am not sure what she means by that, but I take it like a compliment. I smile and tell her thank you and continue eating. 3 more people take a seat at the table and Courtney introduces me and tells me their names are Jim, Jax and Jess. I nod at them and continue to eat my lunch. Pizza. I am not a lover of pizza like most people. I just like every now and then. As I finish up lunch Courtney leans over and tells me there is only one person missing from the table and his name is Caleb. Apparently, he out of town on business with his dad. I nod and get up to put my tray away before the bell rings and start to head to my locker. The rest of the day is pretty uneventful thank goodness.
As I walk home, I decided to stop at a few of the local shops and look around. The town is like a small family. Everyone greats, waves or speaks to one another, its really refreshing. The shops are small and friendly, places where you wouldn't be afraid to let your kids shop without you. I decide to stop in at the ice cream shop, as I walk in the lady at the counter waves as she finishes up with the customer she is helping. When it's my turn I step up the the counter and look at all the flavors she had available. Cookies and Cream! This is my favorite flavor of all time. She I ask for a bowl of that and a scoop of mint chip also. Mint Chip is my dad favorite so I always get one scoop of his just to feel like I am round him. I may not get to see my dad but I am really close to him at heart. He has always taken care of me ad mom so I have no issues about him leaving other than I wish I could see him. I pay for my ice cream and the woman behind the counter says good bye and almost looks like she bowed head a little. Maybe I am just over thinking things. I continue on my way home just observing everything around me.
As I get to the new house I unlock the door and walk in smelling super that mom has cooked. "Mom, I'm home" I set my book bag down taking off my shoes, I walk in to the kitchen looking for my mom. "Mom, you home." I walk up to the refrigerator and see a note for me.
'Got called in. Supper is in the oven. I'll be home late. Love Mom'
Hanging my head, this happens all the time and I should be used to it by now, but I hate not spending time with her. I go change into some comfortable clothes, settle down on the couch and start my homework. I have a lot math homework so I will start there. After finishing all my homework, I eat super and clean the kitchen back up so mom won't have to later. Take a shower, get ready for bed and grab the book from my dad again.
Courtney POV
After spending the day trying to get to know Scarlet at school, I headed straight home to talk to dad. I need to find out about her. She is wolf but acts like she has no clue that she is. Her smell is obvious that she is of alpha blood, she most not belongs to a pack either. She obviously has not been taught about being a wolf either. I need to tell dad about her since she is a rogue alpha even though she didn't smell rogue. After getting home I head straight up to my dad's office and knock on the door, waiting for his command to enter.
"Come in Courtney"
"Hi dad. I need to talk to you about something that happen today at school."
"Sure sweetheart, come sit down and tell me what happened?"
"There was a new girl that started school today and she is the one you described to me. Dad, what's going on. Why did you want me to get to know her?"
"Courtney, there's a really long story about her. I will tell you, but you need to stay calm about it and you cannot tell Scarlet. I must be the one to talk to her." Dad looks stressed about this situation. What he doesn't know is we already know about her. We already love her. I just wish he would trust us enough to understand. She is a year older which makes her the next alpha if she shifts on her birthday. "Before I met your mother, I loved another woman. I still do to an extent. But it doesn't compare to the mate bond. You see I was young and I chose not to honor the mate bond and took a human lover. I loved her as much as I could without the mate bond holding us together. Her mother's name is Ress, when she became pregnant, we were so happy. When Scarlet turned 1 I met your mother. When the mate bond started taking effect I had to explain everything to Ress. I have not had any physical contact with either of them but I call Scarlet often. She turns 17 next month and will shift. I have been talking with Ress and took an assignment near us so that we could help Scarlet. I just know what to do anymore. I love her as I love you and your brother." As he explains I can the tears swell up in his eyes so I get up and go around to him and give him a hug. At first it doesn't register with him but then he turns and pulls me in for a deeper hug.
"Dad, we understand. Mom has talked about her and told us that she forgave you and that we should be here to help and support you and our sister. But she made it clear that we had to wait until you were ready to talk about her with us. Regardless of anything she is our family and we already love her without knowing her." I am glad that dad finally started talking about her. I know it has been tearing him up inside.
