Chapter 2: In Your Arms

The night was colder than before, not because of the tension between two different souls, but because of the warmth brought by the wind.

Isabelle Swain had slept peacefully as she didn't notice that she was lying on a soft, cozy mattress. The hut may be looked small, but it was filled with high-class furniture.

She was alone inside of a dark room as the man who helped her went outside and looked around the forest.

He was topless as he sweats like a laborer. Staying inside with a woman was one of his favorites, but he felt something strange towards Isabelle.

Devin Mondragon had never felt this way before. For him, women were only like toys who would be abandoned after he used them all night long.

But Isabelle was different from him. Her presence was stronger than anyone he had met coincidentally.

"Damn! Why am I even doing this? I'm supposed to be in my room at this hour!" he said annoyed.

Devin rubbed his nape as he kicked off a few dried leaves on the ground. It has been three hours since he brought Isabelle into his room, yet he couldn't step his foot closer to the door.

"Ugh! I should have let her sleep on that tree by herself!" he murmured with regret in his eyes.

However, a werewolf's roar sounded nearby that brought fear to his chest. He was certain that it came from a beast and he must protect the lonely vampire.

As quick as the flash of thunder, Devin ran back to his room, holding his breath as long as he could. He thought her life would be at risk, but before it happened, he eagerly pushed the door made up of wood.

At the moment he opened the door widely, Devin sighed in relief. He saw Isabelle was sleeping peacefully and owned his room like it was her property.

"Huh! I thought you're gone!" he said quietly as he blinked his eyes in reprieve.

Devin looked at her bright face. It hypnotized him as he took steps closer to the woman who caught his attention.

He tried to control his feelings, to walk away from a vampire, but in the end, Devin saw himself next to Isabelle.

His heart beat too fast as if he was still a teenager who saw his beloved for the first time. His knees weakened; his breath became harder as she tried to catch it.

For a second, he stared at her from head to toe. He was a man who had feelings too and desires that only a woman could give.

"Who are you?" he started.

"How did you know this place?"

Devin talked to a woman who was sleeping. He wanted to know her name, her past, and hear her ensnaring voice.

Looking at her for a couple of minutes made him a vulnerable man. Holding back a strong feeling that forced him was hard enough as no one dared to make an alpha obsessed with one sacred thing.

His arms stretched on their own as they tried to reach Isabelle's scarlet cheeks.

The moment he touched it; he suddenly felt a strong connection with her. It was merely strange and Devin didn't know what it was all about.

It didn't take any longer as he couldn't bear the burning sensation that flowed into his veins. It was uncontrollable to the point that he could lose control and out of his mind.

"What was that feeling?" he asked surprised.

His eyes were filled with millions of questions, thinking how did a solitary vampire capture his attention so easily.

However, he didn't give up and turned his back on her. Devin Mondragon had never been intimidated by an unconscious woman, never in his whole life.

He lived for hundreds of years surrounded by pretty girls, sleeping next to them every night, yet, nothing had changed even a single drop of him.

Devin was embraced by a temporary feeling. In the first place, he knew Isabelle's true identity, but he didn't listen to the obvious truth before his eyes.

He had chosen to be blind, not because he fell in love with a vampire at first sight, but because he found her interesting and different.

"Damn it! I should leave right now before she caught me stealing gaze at her!" he exclaimed and slightly shook his head in frustration.

However, when he bowed his head in dismay, Isabelle opened her eyes and seated on the edge of the bed.

Her green eyes sparkled in the dark as they were covered with longing and fondness. Isabelle knew that the man before her was an alpha. There was no other way to deny it as they possessed everything that a werewolf has.

She said, "I knew what you are."

Devin looked at her eyes intently. "How did you know?" he replied quietly.

Isabelle Swain suddenly burst into laughter as she found his question a stupid one. She knew he was a smart alpha, but she didn't expect it another way.

"I know you're an alpha," she paused as she stood and met his alluring, deep gaze. "Isabelle Swain, how about you?" she said confidently.

"Devin… Devin Mondragon. It's my pleasure to meet you."

Through their peculiar abilities, both of them realized that weren't the same, that they had differences in terms of identity and past.

Yet, as clever as fate, Isabelle didn't think to let go of the place where she truly belongs. Her heart was instantly occupied and the emptiness within filled with warmth and affection.

"You're the one I saw earlier, safeguarding your property. Am I right?" Isabelle's brow furrowed, staring at the man close to her.

Out of the blue, Devin chuckled that somehow broke the burning bridge between them. He then caressed his chin, nodding his head because of the sudden happiness she brought to his life.

But Isabelle misunderstood his actions.

She thought he found her presence hilarious. That he didn't see her as a woman who could give true love to a man, she just met for the first time.

"What are you doing?" Devin asked as the smile on his lips had vanished.

Guilt has drawn on his face as he quickly grabbed her hands and wrapped Isabelle around his arms.

It was magical for a hopeless vampire like her. Isabelle could smell the addictive fragrance of his blood as she leaned her head to his chest.

"Finally, I'm in your arms," Isabelle whispered as she savored the moment and closed her weary eyes.
