Chapter 34: Expedition
"You want to join an expedition in the north?"
I asked Theresse if I could, It was a boring week, nothing exciting, just repeated actions, Sleep, Study, Duel, Sleep, it was getting repetitive while I did improve and Tear used the time to Optimize me I wanted to go the north.
"Is it possible?"
"Let me look at the list."
We were currently in her office, so I sat down on the couch, after a minute of silence Theresse had spoken.
"I'll tell you something, Old man Virgo will certainly block this."
"Does he have a vendetta against me?"
"Sort of, but you're in luck, there's no sponsor for the expedition, there are also no applicant other than you I supposed, the one who proposed the idea, she's the only participant and she's the only one who has plans to go to the north."
"Sponsor?"
"Yes, they're from the Cultural Research department, particularly she wants to research the northern tribes but she lack funds, even if Virgo wants to block you from joining, you have the rights."
"Alright I want to join"
"Not so fast."
"Why?"
"Who said I accepted that you'll be missing a month worth probably of academics from me? I'm still your adviser and you need my approval."
[ Bribe her already. ]
"Fine, just one relic."
"Good."
"Tell Big Sis I said hi."
"I will, this group has an interesting purpose, looks like she wants to immerse in one of the tribes, the one who proposed, Thalia Naiah, is said to have lived in the north before she was found by adventurers."
"So she is a northerner?"
"Apparently so, and she wants to do this as her Thesis as well as reunite with her roots."
"Can I have her files? I want to investigate her backgrounds, just in case something goes wrong."
"Alright, I'll send it to you later."
"Thank you Professor."
"Nope, where are you going!? Come here, I'm not your maid! You file the papers you need to apply to join this expedition not me! I'm the one that'll approve and pass it but that doesn't mean I'll be the one writing everything for you!"
"Ugh."
"No buts!"

Theresse signed the papers, it took me a whole day to line up and get it done, I hate paperwork but this paperwork was for the Professors and other Deans not for the application for the group.
The paperwork I held in my hands concerned that I would leave the academy for a month to join an expedition well above my years.
"Good Job, I thought you didn't have it in you to work, well I'll be passing this now, so do you want me to inform their group or do you to do it yourself?"
"Can you?"
"I will, just prepare your application to them, but I'll them to get ready as well."
"Thanks"
With that Theresse left Lucas, Lucas who was tired from all the waiting and lining up immediately went back to his suite, even though he was a noble the academy was impartial to cutting in line thus he had to do it like other people.
When Theresse walked by the Cultural Research Department, she went inside, the students were shocked to see her, she then grabbed a tab which surprised them even more.
Professors who grabbed a tablet were often usually seen approving their expeditions, and it meant that the professor had checked their applications and may have brought a sponsor along with them.
Once Theresse had finished signing and agreeing to the demands of the group she left smiling, when she had left everyone in the department ran in frenzy as to see who she had sponsored.
"Birthington!?"
"Its the Northern Expedition!"
It shocked the entire department, as there would be no sane professor who would agree to their demands! The Department knew that this group wanted everything to be sponsored including their travel safety!
Thalia who was at the side was shocked as well! She thought she would never see the chance of her Expedition to get approved, everyone made way as she slowly walked to the tablet Theresse signed.
She saw that everyone of her demands including safety and expenses would be covered! But something else was written as long as she accepts the demand from the sponsor.
"Lucas Birthington? Ah the First Year Emperor!"
Once Thalia has said Lucas' name everyone who was friends and close with her immediately took the tablet and they saw everything, Lucas' name was there! and as long as Thalia agrees to bring Lucas along then everything she demanded would be given.
"Just say yes! This is a once in a lifetime opportunity!"
"Of course I will! I'm not a dumbass! and here I thought I'd have to change my Thesis."
Contrary to her appearance she was in fact a crazed scientist, she would do anything for research, right now it was a dream come true, but she also had to respect the contract.
She wanted to immerse herself in her tribe since she had read ancient texts regarding her lineage and as someone who was brought up by adventurers since she was orphaned she wanted to know about her roots.
"Alright I'll meet him later!"

"I saw this one climbing up the fence."
Emily dragged a strange woman by her legs, right now Emily used my Peak Form from our artifact, the woman in question was held upside down.
"Please! I'm just here to say thank you?"
"Let her down."
Emily did as she was and the woman fell to the ground, I wasn't worried, she had mana, perhaps she was one of the students that had no talent in combat but still had mana.
Emily then stood behind me to observe her as well.
"So what did you want to thank me for?"
The strange girl patted the dust off her clothes and then realigned her glasses, she had blonde hair, gray eyes, she was shorter than me, but her skin was white as snow, she then coughed and held out her hand.
"I'm sorry I don't know Noble Etiquette that much."
"Climbing up the fence isn't part of any etiquette?"
"Ugh, Anyway My Name is Thalia Nailah, I thank you personally for sponsoring the trip to the north!"
"Ah"
It was then I shook her hand, she had huge grin and her grip was getting stronger, she shook is so strongly until she let it go.
"Thank you so much! Is it fine for you to prepare everything by next week?"
"Of course."
"Alright! I'll pack my things!"
"You're not gonna ask why I'm coming?"
"Everyone has their secrets! You have yours I have mine, so I don't care what you do."
"But you're gonna be my guide you know."
"I know that's why let's not interfere in each others business yes?"
"Alright."
"I will do my part in guiding you to my tribe but let's talk more when we are on the way there yes?"
"I understand, you can go now, next time, just go in the front don't climb the fence"
"Thanks!"
Me and Emily stood there watching her leave, she then tugged my sleeve.
"You're going where?"
"To the north."
"Will you be going alone?"
"Yes, and I need you here to keep things in check so when I come back everything will be alright."
"I-I understand! But I'm your bodyguard what will you tell Big Sis?"
"I haven't thought of that, I'll think of it when I see her."

"He what?"
"He wants to go to a Northern expedition, its all in the files I gave you."
"I see, this is a good opportunity."
"But Emily won't be there."
"It's fine he can survive by himself he needs the experience anyway."
"What are you planning Aria?"
"Something, well see you Theresse, thanks for informing in advance, I just know this brat is gonna call me."
Aria ended the Hologram call as Theresse sighed, she then took the files once more, she was going to a meeting, it was a meeting concerning the expedition, in normal times they wouldn't bat an eye but this concerned Lucas.
When she arrived she saw that some professors were grumbling and talking to themselves, they were annoyed that Virgo had to make a big deal out of this and that he should have just let Lucas be.
"This is getting annoying."
Theresse finally said, they were all waiting for her, right now everyone was annoyed and wanted it to be done quick.
"Today-"
"Let's just get it done we all know how much you loath Lucas for beating Leon, who here votes for the approval of Thalia's Expedition say I"
It was then followed by a successive agreements as each professor here would rather be on Virgo's bad side than the Birthington's, they knew Virgo was only one man and his connections were limited but if you compare the Birthington's they knew they would be targeted in ways they cannot imagine.
"There are no objections aside from the Dean of Education?"
There was no sound coming meaning that it was already set in stone that the expedition would be approved nonetheless.
"Meeting dismissed."
Theresse took control over the entire meeting, though she was just a professor, she knew how much Influence the Birthington family had and that no one wanted to be their enemy and for Virgo to stop a student from exploring as early as now was a stupid move.
Everyone left as it was a useless meeting they had far more important meetings rather than this farce, eventually only Virgo and Theresse were left alone.
"Have you gone mad old man?"
Virgo continued looking at Theresse, but Theresse wouldn't let up.
"It's one thing if you support or even blatantly show favor to one student no one will say anything since we all play favorites but to block someone's growth is going too far"
"I don't need to explain my actions."
"Fine, then I don't to explain mine either, if you continue this Thread, see if you can survive Aria, I know you hate their family and their way of doing things but if you really want Leon to survive the prophecy Lucas is your best bet to help him."
Virgo didn't say anything, he didn't want to continue anymore as he went out to find Leon, Theresse warned him for his own good but if he continued on being senile and out of touch who knows what would happen.
"This damned old man, well everything's fine."

"Professor Virgo!"
"I told you to stop calling me that, anyway I'm here to ask you."
"Yes?"
"Do you think adventuring is better than learning here?"
Virgo looked at Leon, wondering what this young kid would answer, he knew he had done things before he came here, he had saved people, finished a dungeon by himself, and best of all he knew him since he was a baby.
"I think, they both have their benefits, so I can't choose from the two."
"But if you were?"
"I wouldn't know, honestly I've only been here for a month so I'm still trying to learn, while learning real life situations is nice, just like Professor Theresse told us, its better that we learn also at the academy just in case we're presented a problem we at least have one more possible solution to it."
"Alright."
Virgo closed his eyes, he then took out a potion, then gave it to Leon.
"Drink it, its yours."
"Thank you?"

Theresse from afar saw everything, she chuckled but didn't say anything.
'Ah if you're blatantly showing favorites then I will too."
