Chapter 2: First Ride
"Put the pedal to the metal", Dylan said, as I got on the bike. We we're supposed to make a quick ride from here to the park, but I couldn't even go from here to the front gate.
"Um....I see the problem", he says to me. "What's the problem", I ask intrigued. "Your not trying hard enough", he says handing me a helmet.
"WhAt, yes I am I've been training with you for the last 2 weeks, and nothing", I say back to him putting my hands on his chest and pushing him back.
"Look kid, I just don't think your made for this", he says to me sympathetically. "Well, maybe your not good enough to teach me", I say back. "Your right, I'm not good a teaching you, I'm better at actually riding", he says.
*A few hours later*
"I'm not training with that guy ever again, he's a total jerk", I say to my dad who is currently sitted down at the table.
"Charlie, the race is in 4 months you can't drop out", he says to me. "Dad, I can't even apply, it's an all guy derby race", I shout, which is something I would never do if I wasn't so mad.
He looks at me and says, "You know the plan".
Dad had this insane plan that maybe I could join the race as a guy and pretend to be him. What a lunatic.
"I can continue to train, just not with Dylan", I say feeling bad for my dad. "Well then who are you going to train with", he asks.
"I have a friend, named Roland, who knows how to ride a bike", I say quickly. "Are you sure", he asks me.
Me and Roland, weren't actually friends but I knew him since the tenth grade and now 7 years later, I still don't talk to him.
"I'll talk to him", I say grabbing my jacket from the chair. Even though I had never talked to him, I knew exactly where to find him. It was just where he was that scared me.
Back in the 11th grade, there were rumors he was into drugs. I know what people will say, don't believe everything. But I had actually seen him smoking.
Hopefully he would help me, which is something Dylan couldn't do.
