"I met the author who wrote the books," I said smoothly, shocking myself with how easily the lie came. My mother frowned as if she was trying to remember. "There's books about Arinel and the King and… it's a series I loved. Fantasy books. I didn't know they were real. I read the last book in the series and loved it. It gave me… comfort after a break up. But then the author came to our city and I went to her signing and… and I got to meet her. And she's a Physicist. She… she must have recognized me or known Dad, or something. Because she got her people to take me aside so we could talk alone.

"She assumed I knew more than I did and she gave me the new book. It was all very confusing, but then I read the new book and when I went to sleep that night thinking about Arinel and the King and… well… here I am. When I first arrived I thought it was a dream."
