Chapter 4: 4. WELCOME TO ZIMS

Waking up the next morning Carter felt a bit weird. She opened her eyes only to see a completely different room. Sighing heavily, Carter realized that everything that happened wasn't a dream and she was officially apart of the Martial Academy. She sat up and stretched a bit before standing up. Her room was empty other than her bed, dresser, and the large window with red drapes. Carter looked over to see that all of her bags were still in the same spot from yesterday. After her meeting with John Porter, Carter was escorted to her new room as her bags sat there awaiting for her arrival. Too lazy to unpack, Carter walked straight to the bathroom to shower before going to bed.

Carter stepped into the empty hallway to see that no one was there. She could hear the sounds of chatter coming from the large stairs. The large hallway was filled with bedroom chambers. There were doors all down the hallway. Despite it being filled with rooms, Carter noticed that there were no decorations on the walls. Looking over towards the large staircase, Carter began making her way downstairs and gasped when she got to the bottom. Thousands of people — mutants — walked around the mansion with huge smiles on their faces as they made their way to their destination with their friends.

Carter felt uncomfortable as a few people looked her way. She put her head down and began walking down the large hall and into another room that she saw plenty of people walking in and out of. As Carter walked away, she noticed that everyone wore uniforms. The girls wore dresses or skirts that were maroon with white turtlenecks shirts while the boys wore black pants with white shirts and maroon ties. Carter looked down at her appearance to see that she was nowhere in uniform. Instead, she wore a white shirt with blue jeans.

Carter walked into the room only to discover that it was the dining room. The large dining hall had four large tables that took up the entire room and had a smaller table in the corner that seemed to be occupied by teachers. Carter stood in the middle of the dining room as everyone else ran around and chatted with one another.

"Rickey, you're up early considering the fact that you didn't fall asleep until seven this morning," Someone said. Carter turned around to see a blonde girl with in uniform. She smiled softly at Carter leaving Carter a bit confused.

Carter looked around before turning back towards the girl. "I think you have the wrong person. My name isn't Rickey!"

Suddenly, the girl screamed causing Carter to jump. Everyone in the dining room stopped talking and watched the both of them leaving Carter embarrassed. The sound of footsteps running behind Carter caught her attention. Carter watched as a skinny boy with long brown hair grabbed the blonde girl by her arms.

"What the hell, Sarah?" He asked.

"Rickey," Sarah said as she pointed at Carter.

"Yes! It's Rickey!"

"I'm right here!" Someone said. Carter looked from around the Sarah's head to see a ginger boy standing there in confusion. The long haired boy slowly turned around only for his mouth to drop open as he stared back at Carter in shock.

"What?" Carter asked. Sarah quickly reached into the crossbody purse that she carried before pulling a small mirror out. Grabbing the mirror, Carter stared at reflection and gasped at the sight dropping the mirror in the process. Carter's long black and white hair had now been replaced with short red hair. Her pale skin was now tan. She looked identical to the Rickey boy.

"What happened to me?" Carter cried.

"I don't know!" The long haired boy exclaimed, "It's your power! You know how to fix it!"

"I don't!" Carter exclaimed. "My power is telekinesis!"

"Figure it out!" Rickey yelled, "There's only one me dammit!"

"You think I want to look like you?" Carter asked, "I am so hairy!"

"You little—" Rickey started only to be cut off by a familiar voice.

"Shapeshifting," John stated. "How remarkable! You've just figured out one of your new powers!"

Carter rolled her eyes and groaned. She didn't even want the one she had so now she had another?

"I don't want it!" She shot back. Suddenly, Carter could feel herself changing. I looked down at the manly hands only to see them disappear until her hands were back to normal causing her to sigh in relief.

Carter was back.

"This is what I mean by you needing to control it! There's no telling what other powers you possess and how dangerous they could be!" John replied.

"I was actually gonna go practice now!"

"Great! I can come with you!" John revealed.

"No special treatment remember!"

"We will go outside." John announced.

"I'm fine!"

"Carter!" John warned. Sarah and the long haired boy turned towards Carter.

"You're Carter?" Sarah asked. "Holy shit!"

"I never would've thought you'd show up here." The boy said. "I'm Michael but call me Mikey!"

"What do you mean?" Carter asked.

"What do you mean?" Mikey asked. "After what happened, I was positive that you were hidden away for protection!"

"Your mother's death was huge here!" Sarah revealed.

Carter stood there as everyone in the dining room watched her intensely. It was quiet as no one bothered to say a word. Carter felt as if the room was spinning as she stood in the uncomfortable silence. Looking up, Carter looked up at John who watched her.

"I told you that your life was about to change." He said.

"What?" Carter whispered.

"Welcome to Zims, Carter!"
