Chapter 26: ambush

Im feel refreshed and ready to write again, thank you Joseph04 for that suggestion, maybe it's the psychological feeling of actually doing something useful that made my life a bit better

~~

Continuing our exploration, we encountered a horde of goblins that appeared in large numbers. After reading the information about floors 8 to 9 in the guild, it seemed that every monster from floors 1 to 7 would appear in this dungeon, but in larger numbers and with stronger individuals.

"O flame, enchant my blade to aid me in my fight, engulf my enemy with your flame, and leave nothing but ashes," I chanted as a small flame burst out of my left hand. I pushed the flame into my daggers after pouring enough mind into it. My daggers burst into flames as I dashed into the fray. The goblins quickly took notice of my presence and readied their clubs and claws.

"HAH!" I struck the first goblin, instantly killing it. Sensing danger, I swiftly backstepped as three goblins lunged where I had been standing. Swinging at the three of them, my daggers sliced through them like they were thin air.

An arrow flew from my back, hitting one goblin in the eye. Looking back, I saw Liliruca reloading her hand crossbow.

"Thank you!" I shouted at Lili as she looked at me with panic.

"Idiot! Don't get distracted!" She shouted back at me. Following her order, I refocused my attention on the goblins. With Lili's assistance, I continued killing the goblins, while Lili covered me from any stray goblins. I diverted all their attention towards me to keep Lili safe.

"Huff, that was even more fun than expected!" I said, looking at Lili, who was scavenging her bolts and magic stones.

"Thank you for the assistance, Lili," I thanked her once more.

"Don't worry about it; we're a team after all," she dismissively said as she continued her scavenging.

"Swoosh." I moved my head as I sensed danger, barely dodging an arrow aimed at my head.

"Lili, ambush!" I shouted, alerting Lili as she retreated close to me, readying her crossbow.

"Well, well, well, look what we have here, our little Liliruca relaying towards someone," a familiar figure emerged from the bushes.

"You were the one who chased Lili in the alley, right?" I said, recalling him, and his face went red from the humiliation he felt while being pinned down by Bell.

"Boys, get them!" Leaving no room for discussion dozen of adventurers emerged from all sides, surrounding us.

"O flame, grant me strength, cover my very bones with your warmth, and protect my flesh with your shielding burn," I chanted, as a flame burst from my hand.

"Don't let him use his magic!" Most of them rushed towards me. I contemplated activating the magic now but decided to charge it. Cutting the tie of Lili's backpack, I wrapped my arm around her and dashed towards where the fewest of their numbers charged.

"He's trying to escape! Block him!" Their leader, who was the man I clashed within the alley, ordered. Two adventurers blocked my path as they swung their swords at me, but I backstepped and delivered a roundhouse kick, sending both of them flying.

"What the fuck are you guys doing! He's only a level 1, you morons!" Their leader commented as I continued my escape.

"FOLLOW HIM!" They ran towards me. I felt Liliruca reposition to my shoulder and started shooting behind me.

"AGHH!" I heard a scream but focused on running in a straight line. Feeling danger, I sidestepped, dodging an arrow aiming at my leg.

"This should be enough." I put down Liliruca, much to her confusion.

"Huh! Why did we stop running?"

"My only goal was to escape from the encirclement. If we stayed like that, you would be in danger." I looked at the now raging flame on my hand and swung it inside my chest. I felt a rush as everything became slower, and my perception of time shifted.

"This rush, how exhilarating." I dashed towards the pursuers with blinding speed, something unexpected from a level 1 adventurer.

Instantly arriving at the front line of their group, their eyes shook as they saw me seemingly teleport in front of them. I sent a jab to their leader's face, and his entire body launched backward, confusing and shocking their whole party. I shifted my center of gravity again toward another of their party members, and they ended up the same as the last guy.

Every time I reached someone, they were instantly knocked out by my punches or kicks, as it looked like a one-sided beatdown. Despite their numbers far exceeding ours, they were mercilessly crushed.

This scene was reminiscent of the Demoness of the Battlefield, albeit less bloody, as Bell's demeanor in battle mirrored that of the Demoness herself.

"Phew." I felt my power draining from my body as fatigue started to kick in. Falling to the ground, I tried to recover from the sudden change in time perception.

Many unconscious adventurers littered the field. Almost all of them were knocked out by a single punch or kick to their heads. Looking at Liliruca, who was stealing from their pockets, I tried to interject, but I remembered that they were the ones who initially wanted to rob us or worse, kill us, so they should expect to be robbed back once they lost.
