Chapter 2: Chapter Six

"I called this meeting to learn the innovations and history of the trolls during my absence" Sterling spoke to the troll leaders with his mental link. Sylvie was the first to speak.

"Several decades ago the Fae were tipping off the scales. The North American trolls regrouped with my initiative and we invented a product, cigarettes. The product helped promote the status of hundreds of trolls. We expanded with my leadership and opened a place the humans call the adult playground, Las Vegas, the city of sin. Not to mention the stock market with these three innovations North America has the largest number of converted souls and the highest wealth which we distribute to all trolls."

"Excellent" Sterling replied, feeling she sought out for his approval.

The European leader, Bardrich chimed in "Of course you would mention how North America's corruption and the productivity in converting human souls to hell but let's not forget it was us European Trolls who invented sunblock, allowing us to be out in the day."

"Yes, the Australian Trolls appreciate it." Diago chimed in

"Can we discuss the real issue we are facing, The Fae's? Ming the Chinese leader added

Sterling rubbed his hands together and said "Indeed, so they are still a problem than?"

Yero the African troll pipped up "They are wreaking havoc on our food supplies."

Sterling alert at the new development asked "Interesting how so?" Yero continued

"They have been injecting humans with vaccines, poisoning our marrow supply."

Sylvie interrupted "Which is why I instigated influencing the new generation to be anti-vaccines. American vaccine levels are starting to decline."

"It's good to hear, we have a common goal to annialate the Fae species, recruitment shouldn't be too difficult." Sterling smiled.

Graci the South American troll agreed "Absolutely. Their powers and numbers have grown since you have been away sir. They have attacked our food, yes but also have created weapons to destroy our kind, and using human forces"

"Interesting. What are these weapons you speak of?"

"Stun guns sir. They are boxes of electric currents, that the police force have to carry"

"Have we designed any weapons of our own? Last I recall Iron was lethal?"

Yero the African leader chimed in "Yes, and my trolls have been mining our earth for years, we have collected a considerable supply to build weapons in the event of a war."

"Terrific. This has given me a considerable amount to think about. I will continue my search on locating a Fae and discuss our course of action when you all arrive next month. Till than keep up the good work"

Sterling discontinued the connection he saw Ray lowered his head and pick at his nails, seeming disinterested in the meeting. He was about to voice his concerns when he looked past Ray to the open double doors to the garden. He took in the sight of the large acre field, a venue easily large enough to hold 400 people. Realization dawned on him as to how he can gift Genevieve, he smiled at the simplicity.

"I know what I have to do, regarding Genevieve but I'll need your help"

"Yeah? Sure anything boss"

"I need you to show me how to use a computer"

"Oh boy. It's going to be a long night"

A two story red brick building with a large clock tower stood in front of him. He opened the double doors, and entered the vast open floor, stone columns on each side of the hall, between each one led into an office. The floor was tiled, cherry wood framed the massive windows and doors. He took the stairs up to the second level, stopping at the only office with the light still on, reading the plaque on the door, mayor.

He entered the office and she stood up from behind the desk,

"Who are you and what are you doing here?" Sterling observed the middle age women, in a suite stiffen as he strode towards a chair in front of her and sat down. He laced his fingers and rested them on his lap for her benefit to see he was unarmed, and began discussing his presence.

"I didn't want to come here you know. Ray tried his best but it seems the modern computer is something I am unable to comprehend at the moment." Sterling gestured to her chair with the palm of his hand "Please sit. I mean you no harm, I require your assistance"

"Then you should have booked an appointment with my assistant" She sat back in her chair, her eyes still fixated on him.

"Yes well, time is a factor, I'm sure you can relate. As I was saying. I need you to compose a letter and carrier it through this computer"

Her eyebrows lowered and said "You need me to send an email?"

"Yes, Email. That was the terminology Ray used."

"What sort of email do you need me to write?" Sterling leaned forward on the desk, the mayor leaned further back.

"One to insist the party organizer, Genevieve, to use my residence for her 'The Better To-marrow Auction' event"

"You want to be the vendor for the event? Why can't you go to her office and request this in person. It seems like such a trivial request for the mayor to involve in."

"Genevieve must remain unaware of my involvement"

The mayor nodded "I see, well this is very unorthodox and not how businesses are performed. I am sorry you have wasted your time, you can show yourself out"

Sterling chuckled, picking up the plaque on her desk and read it "Mayor Simmons, I am doing you the service in making this request. I have the means in forcing it from you"

The mayor's eyes widened, her hand brushed under the table "Are you threatening me?"

He smiled "Indeed"

She raised from her chair both palms on the desk "I don't give in to terrorists"

"You will" The mayor clung her head as a loud consistent sound of nails on a chalkboard played on repeat in her head. She screamed and cried begging for the noise to stop.

Sterling inspected his nail as she withered on the floor "It will cease when Genevieve receives your email."

The mayor crawled, grabbing the handles of her chair and lifted herself up off the floor. She logged into her computer and opened the email application, her fingers on the keyboard. Sterling moved to stand behind her to look over her shoulder, he removed the noise from her mind. Her body slumped into the chair relieved to be rid of the pain.

"Do you have a name?"

"Use Adam Cain"

Sterling walked towards the door when his enhanced hearing picked up a car in the distance. He listened to it pull up the drive way, the engine turning off, the clacking of shoes that went up the short steps to the door. Each step had his heart pump stronger in anticipation, he let his mind open to the thoughts of the visitor on the other side and smiled when he was met with silence.

He waited till she knocked three times on the massive solid door, not wanting to come off to eager. When he opened it Genevieve stood appearing as a successful business women. She wore a polka dot blouse tucked into a tight pencil skirt, a large black bag and a smile on her face that fell the moment she spotted him. His lip turned up into a half smile, she looked heavenward and mumbled

"Oh your hilarious"

Sterling brought a fist to his mouth hiding his laugh with a cough. If she only knew that the angels above had nothing to do with their meeting today. Genevieve collected and composed herself, putting on a fake smile, exerting her arm out for him to shake as she introduced herself.

"Hi, I'm Genevieve Eden from The Garden of Eden Party planners. I have a meeting with the homeowner regarding the property for a fundraiser I will be organizing?"

"A Better To-marrow"

She spoke through clenched teeth, "That's the one"

Sterling waved his hand and stepped out of the way for her to enter. Genevieve nodded and continued inside, her heals clicking off the solid marble floor. She placed her purse down in the entrance hall, and pulled out some shoe covers from her bag. Leaning on the wall for balance she placed the covers over her heals.

Sterling watched from inside the house, his hands in the pocket of his jeans. His black v-neck shirt tightened from the action. Genevieve stood tall looking confident and professional as she smoothed down her skirt and took a step inside. The lack of traction from the covers on the marble floor had her falling backwards.

Sterling moved at inhuman speed and caught her before she fell to the ground. He cradled her in his firm arm, leaning in closer towards her face, her eyes widened, he bent with his waist, his other arm placed behind her knees lifting her completely off the ground bridal style. She yelped at the sudden feeling of being picked up. He gazed at her expressionless, his eyes expressing he will not be releasing her.

Genevieve glared at him and asserted "Maybe you should put me down now"

"Only on the condition you take off those shoes"

Narrowing her eyes, she shrieked "This is ridiculous, put me down this instant"

"Are the shoes coming off?" She crossed her arms, and looked into his blues defiantly, without breaking contact he continued to walk with her in his arms. She screamed, linking her hands behind his neck, pulling herself closer to have some sense of control. He stopped his movement, lifting an eyebrow in challenge, she giggled, relenting. "Fine, you win"

Sterling nodded and gently placed her back on the ground.

Genevieve rolled her eyes and pushed him on the chest, her cheeks pinked at the motion. He crossed his arms over where she had touched him a moment ago. She kept eye contact with him stubbornly, while complying to his demand. He raised his eyebrow as she moved her hand down her leg to remove her shoes. She wasn't wearing socks, her black painted toenails stood out on the white marble floor.

"Happy?" Genevieve asked when she stood up,

He nodded his answer after she walked without slipping. Genevieve continued further into the mansion taking pictures as she went.

"So, is your father home?"

Sterling confused by the question, one he didn't anticipate. He furrowed his brows as he answered.

"No"

"Grandfather?"

"Again no"

Genevieve stiffened, turning to face him, in a slow displeasured voice

"So, you're the owner of this place?"

"Indeed"

"Your…" She glanced down at her phone, and asked "Adam Cain?"

"Correct"

She spun around at the large open entry hall of the mansion, puzzled.

"And you will be helping me organize the fundraiser not your wife or girlfriend?"

He paused, for a moment contemplating his answer, "Yes we will be working together and I am unattached."

Genevieve rolled her eyes and sarcastically whispered to herself "Perfect" turning her back on him, continuing to walk through the Manor. She opened the French doors to the backyard, a full acre of weeds, tall unkept grass and pools of mud.

She spoke from over her shoulder, "This isn't that bad, we can have this cleaned up and ready before the event" Genevieve nodded and made notes on her phone.

She walked back into the mansion and opened a door to the hall that would lead to the guest bathrooms and the chef's kitchen. She held her hand to her chest and let out a scream. The hall was infested with dead roaches and mice. The plaster and paint peeled off the walls in long scratches exposing the black rot underneath. The floor was covered in debris, dried sewage and sludge. Genevieve quickly closed the door and slowly turned to look at Sterling, eyes wide and face paled.

"I haven't finished renovating" Sterling answered unapologetic, just matter of fact. Genevieve approached him a little aggravated by the position this put her in.

"The event is in a month, that hall is beyond disgusting. Nightmarish, that image is burned into my mind" She gave an involuntarily shiver at the thought.

Sterling let out a laugh, and pretended to cough when she narrowed her eyes at him. "The renovations will be done well before your fundraiser. You have my word"

Genevieve looked into his eyes, searching, he let her read him, waiting till she sought out the answer she wanted. "Your word means very little to me, my entire business is riding on this event. The only way I can guarantee that this house will be ready on time is if I am here to see it happen."

Sterling shook his head and had a huge smile plastered on his face. Having her help would most likely slow the process as he won't be able to use his super speed.

"Are you sure you want to come here, help renovate? You said it yourself that hall will give you nightmares"

"Oh the nightmare of this not being completed on time trumps that one." Genevieve pulls out her phone, types 'Adam Cain' in her contacts and hands Sterling her cell.

Sterling holds the phone and gazes at her in question. "What would you like me to do with this?"

"Add you cell number, so I can contact you"

"I don't have a phone"

"That's ridiculous" Genevieve shook her head

"Oh your serious. How the hell do you contact people than?" Sterling shrugged his shoulders as an answer. Genevieve sighed and took back her phone.

"Alright then, I'll meet you here tomorrow at 7am sharp. I'll bring breakfast, you bring the tools. Deal?"

Genevieve held out her hand for Sterling to shake. Sterling tilted his head at the gesture, and brought his finger to his lips as he contemplated the idea of spending everyday with her. He smiled and said

"Deal"
