Chapter 2: Consolation

"Thank you uncle Zen. May Siye's grace be with you on your way to Laravel today" Kalil called out to the elderly man whom turned towards her to smile.

"My pleasure, thank you Kalil. I will visit you soon as I returned to the village. I know you get lonely staying home alone after your parents' passing, despite refusing to live with your aunt and I..." Zen sought Kalil's eyes for confirmation.

The confirmation was there for a split second of sorrow before Kalil recomposed herself with brighter smile that never reached her eyes and said "Of course uncle, I'll be seeing you then... Be safe"

Zen turned to leave with ten batches of Absolon curse's cure in his crate. He felt sadness in sympathy to his niece's loss and how the other always seemed to hide her grief under the guise of smiles and cheerful charades.

After Zen closed the door, Kalil released the breath that she was holding since her uncle mentioned her late parents. No matter how hard she convinced herself that she already accepted her parents' death, the mention of it always stings.

Wiping the stray tear that managed to slip out of her left eye, Kalil returned back to her table where she put the cash she earned from her uncle. 80 Shekel. It should be enough for her daily necessities perhaps for a week and a half. She was truly glad that she didn't put off the cure making till the last day like she did last month. Sighing in relief, she puts the coins into her coin satchel.

Kalil reached for a small book a few inches away from where she kept her journal, but retracted her pale palm before she could grab it. Deciding that she could plan her weekly expense when her mood was better.

Kalil made a beeline right towards her doll-keeping room, her dolls had always calmed her down when she felt like the world was crashing down on her, and they never judged her, they never let her feel lonely.

Opening the door, Kalil immediately frowned as she found Miara, one of her doll with short hair and angry-looking face fell from her wooden plank away from her friends, Anna and Tulle.

"Oh! You poor thing, I hope you haven't fallen for too long" The healer grabbed the doll and put her back to the second level of the wooden plank installation on the right side wall.

Kalil sat down on the mohair clad wooden chair and proceeded to vent to her dolls her sadness, pain from her bruises and how she missed her parents whilst also brushing her dolls' hair alternately.

Kalil looked up from her journal promptly to check the time, and almost jumped from her seat upon finding out that she was almost late for the water spirit essence.

Hurriedly, the cinnamon-haired healer put on her overcoat and boots, also taking her mace, then ran her way to the Onioanda lake. Her candle clock indicated that she's only got twenty minutes (a mark burn from the candle) before the spirit retreated into the cave, and with walking, it'd take twenty minutes and a little bit more time, so her best option was to run though she is in no shape to do so.

Out of breath, Kalil felt relieved as she saw the water spirit magically controlled the waters around it, also admiring the orange reflection the sunset light made upon contact with the water. The water that the water spirit floated on was shallow, the water spirit was aqua blue in color and very beautiful, almost transparent.

Kalil felt sorry for having to hurt such regal creature. She unsheathed her mace and charged forward. She attacked fearlessly, thrusting her mace onto the water spirit's chest, the attack alerted the spirit, as it also retaliated in attack and controlled small amounts of water around it.

The water spirit directed waters right at Kalil's face, almost causing Kalil to choke had she not hold her breath. He anticipated this, then she dodged the next attack of the water spirit by side-stepping to the left side of the water spirit and kicked the spirit over the face in a high kick, she has not learned any offensive magic that is true, but to compensate that she always asked Irina to teach him brute strength though her body was never attuned to become strong as the warriors or agile as scouts.

The water spirit let out a high pitched wail in pain as it floated one step backwards, sensing the possible escape, Kalil jumped and smashed her mace into the facial part of the spirit that shaped like those of a seahorse. Continuing the assault, she smashed onto the left part of her body, then onto the right, alternately. The spirit let out more pained wail, unable to land any attack in retaliation due to the barrage of aggression Kalil bombarded it with.

As the final blow Kalil thrusted her mace onto the center of its' body, making it go limp, then blue spirit energy discharged from its' body, signaling its' death, ready to be looted.

On the center, right where it used to be its' heart the water spirit essence shone, Kalil's tawny eyes sparkled with awe at the beauty of it, It was very pale, almost arctic blue on the outer part but the heart of it was navy with bright white light radiating from it.

Kalil heard someone cleared their throat just when he was about to reach the essence. It was already dark by then, the only source of light was from the moon and the stars, with the bright light from the essence illuminating her face.

Kalil turned her body to find the knight from the night before. " I kinda need its' ring. Can you share?" The black-colored plate-clad man said gruffly, avoiding Kalil's tawny eyes a split second after they made eye contact.

Kalil's body twitched in unease at the memory yestereve. But she forced himself to relax as he replied "I only need the essence, you can have the ring"

The man stepped forward cautiously, to which Kalil riposted by turning back against the man and collected the essence in her hands, then stored it in his shoulder-strapped satchel.

The knight moved to loot the ring, located at the front of its' dead body, where the water usually circled in the orb-shaped hollow space as Kalil stepped back to give way to the other.

They were positioned not too far from each other, less than 2 feet away. Dipped shin-deep into the shallow part of the lake. From the close distance, Kalil could see the knight more clearly. She noticed something strange, from the opened part of the helmet a purplish color in a weblike shape formed and seemed to stem from his neck area which was covered by the armor. The knight's right arm was limp to his side, he only used his left hand from what he saw when the other looted the spirit's ring and also when he stored the looted ring into his satchel. The exposed part limp hand also having a similar weblike purplish patch on it.

Kalil moved to touch the possibly infected knight "Hey, I saw purple patches on your face and palm, I think you're infected with the Absolon's curse! Is your right arm paralyzed?"

"What can you do about it? Not like this little village could have the cure for it." The knight replied, he already planned on his leave to the town by the evening.

"You underestimated us, I have the cure back at home, if you want. No! I insist, there is still a small chance that your body would be paralyzed before you reach nearest the town..." The shorter female responded, retracting her hand once he realized that he was touching the angry knight.

The knight's eyes widened, face calculating the chance he could make it to the nearest town, not wanting to receive help from the other.

"You could seriously lose your life over this pride you have. Come on!" Kalil tugged on the knight good arm as she intended to lead the knight onto her home.

Irked at the physical contact, the knight freed his left arm from Kalil rather roughly, to which the latter only sighed at.

He ended up agreeing with Kalil returning back to her house to be cured.
