Chapter 2: CHAPTER TWO: THE THIEF

It was not long before news of her alleged death spread. This instilled fear because she did not know what her husband's plan was. Right now, she can't risk crossing the borders because his spies would be everywhere, and her element can only get her so far. She did not know who to trust anymore, she was alone. A small coo broke through her ever-growing thoughts. She looked down at her little girl who has grown in the past year. Iris couldn't help but smile as the baby tugged at her brown curls. A true contrast to the little girl's straight silver hair. Apart from the four horizontal lines behind her left ear, no one would believe that this was her daughter by blood.

Iris pulled her daughter close as the carriage approached. It was plain black, the Bandits signature colour. She sighed and covered her daughter with her cloak before she entered the carriage.

"Where to?", the face of the scratchy voice was hidden. Iris pulled the hood to cover her face more as she replied.

"Lavender Village.", short and sweet. No need for a conversation. It was a transaction; a secret journey for five gold coins. Iris looked at the surroundings of the Fox village for the last time before the bandit took off.

"You need to take three more carriages to reach your destination.", the bandit informed.

"Will the five coins suffice?", Iris asked.

"Yup."

This would be a long journey.

AVIVA:

"What village did Ori stay the longest in?", Amelia asked. We were off the forest trail now, headed towards the cave we found on our way to Lavender village a few years back.

"Mm, I think it would have to be the Daisy village. The place you were born. We stayed there for almost five years.", I said. I helped Amelia over a fallen tree.

"Can we visit it one day?", she asked. It is understandable that she would be curious. I laughed as I steadied her.

"Sure darling. How about I tell you about the village so long?", I suggested.

"Okay!", Amelia giggled and swung our conjoined hands back and forth.

"Well for one, the village is filled with brutes, but they take care of their own. They are responsible for most weapons in the whole Elysia Empire.", I smiled and thought back to the grumpy villagers that took care of us.

"Were we part of the village?", she asked and tapped her chin.

"Yes, we were. They are good people.", I said and smiled down at her.

"Daisy doesn't fit with the description at all Ori!", Amelia pointed out. I laughed and nodded in agreement.

"I suppose Daisy is the opposite of what you would call a village filled with brutes and weapons.".

"Alright it's a steep walk from here Amelia, watch your step.", Amelia hummed and nodded in acknowledgment.

"Did you see anything?", I ask Kayda as she landed on my shoulder. Her tail already wrapped around my neck. "The final preparation for the ceremony is complete, it is confirmed that they will start tomorrow. There are a total of five dragons that I could see, and I saw the element crystals on the stage.", Kayda continued with what she saw when she flew over the village.

"On my way back, I saw Dimitri and three Riders at our old house.", Kayda finished. I stopped in my tracks, Amelia's confused gaze rested on my face.

"They must have ransacked the house after that damn dog outed me to the Elders. Did they see you?", I asked her.

"I don't think so Avi.", Kayda assured and nuzzled her head against my cheek. I gently scratched her small head with my free hand. She let out a purr like sounds.

"We should be okay. We only rested once and we are almost at the cave.", I mumbled. Tension creeped up in my shoulders

"Ori, did you and Kayda talk again?", Amelia asked. Her voice snapped me out of my thoughts.

"Yes, you remember how it works right?", I asked and secured her hood. The wind was slowly picking up.

"Yeah, you guys talk through telepathy, right?". I nodded my head yes.

"But?"

"But it is not possible with every dragon and Rider.", Amelia finished.

"Very good darling.", I praised and scooped her up in my arms. I smothered her face with kisses and enjoyed her giggles.

"How about a piggyback to the cave?", I offered. Amelia nodded excitedly and manoeuvred herself to my back. It was a bit uncomfortable with the cloaks, but we managed.

The rest of the way Amelia talked about her dreams she had the previous night.

"The flowers danced in the moonlight Ori and then a few sticks showed up on honour of the flower Queen!", Amelia's hand gestures were wild as she continued to explain.

"A wonderful dream as always darling.", I said and eagerly waited for her to continue.

A shadow passed over us that caused me to stop.

"Please don't tell me that is a dragon.", I pleaded to Kayda.

"Maybe it's a really big bird.", Kayda suggested weakly, we both knew it was wishful thinking.

"Dammit!", I cursed and hastened my pace. Amelia clung to me; her face buried in my neck. I breathed out in relief as I saw the cave, it was camouflaged with moss and vines.

I carefully entered the cave and went as deep as possible. The cave walls shook when the Dragon let out a loud roar. I slid down the wall and held Amelia close to me. She was slightly shaking, and her eyes were screwed shut. She never did like the size of the dragons.

"It's okay. I'll keep you safe. I promise nothing will happen to you while I'm around.", I whispered and stroked her curly hair to calm her down. She had clutched my cloak in her small fists, her knuckles turning white.

"Is it gone? Do you think it is after us?", I asked Kayda who was in front of us. Her gaze on the entrance. Her ears moved a bit before she looked up at the cave's ceiling. Hardly a second later the ground shook as a heavy weight landed on the cave. I had to place my hand over Amelia's mouth to stop her scream.

"Shshshh, it's okay. It's alright. They haven't found us yet. We are still safe.", I whispered in her ear. Amelia nodded screwed her eyes shut.

"It's definitely not gone.", Kayda said, her wings were arched and smoke leaving her nostrils. She was ready to attack anything that would enter the cave.

"I never would have guessed.", I said and rolled my eyes.

"Is the Rider close then?", I ask after a moment of silence.

"I don't hear any voices.", her ears flicked to the left.

"I take that back, there are two voices coming towards the cave and-", Kayda did not get the chance to finish before a deeper roar was heard.

"I'm scared, Ori please!", Amelia whimpered. I tried to calm her down and keep her quiet.

"I know darling, I know but we need to be quiet. They are not here for us.", I assured and kissed her temple.

"What are they saying?", I asked. Kayda's tail swished back and forth.

"One is scolding a dragon and the other on is scolding the one who is scolding the dragon.", Kayda answered.

One of the dragons whined and stomped against the cave, which caused Amelia to yelp in fear. My heartrate increased tenfold.

"Did they find us?", I asked, my eyes wide and concentrated on the entrance.

"No but they want to investigate the noise that the dragons heard...in the cave.", Kayda said. A moment later I could hear footsteps at the entrance.

Kayda's mouth started to light up in preparation. I scamper to get to her small form, pulling on her tail.

"Are you crazy?!", I whisper-shouted, forgetting to use the link. She nipped at my fingers.

"Oh, be aggressive later, just come here and hide.", I said and held out my left arm for her to encircle with her small body.

"Amelia in a minute, two people are going to show up. I want you to stay behind me, okay? And no matter what happens you will be safe.", I instructed and slowly stood up. I made sure to cover Amelia's face with her hood and my left arm hidden underneath my cloak. I moved Amelia behind me and pulled up my hood to cover my hair.

"And who do we have here?", a shirtless guy came into view first. Soon a guy with white hair followed.

"Just a drifter.", I answered.

"Drop the hood.", the shirtless guy commanded. I clenched my jaw before I slowly complied.

A 'wow' was heard from the white-haired man. He whispered something to the shirtless guy, who proceeded to nod.

"Would you look at that Rowan, I believe we finally caught the Silver haired Thief.", a smirk as clear as day on his face.

"Really could have given me a better name."

"So where is it?"

"Probably in the hands of a really rich bastard who wishes to buy favour instead of earning it.", I shrugged.
