Chapter 12: The Queen of Elves

A glowing green blade appeared before the two, staked into the marble ground with pieces of the tree root surrounding it. But just as quick as it had appeared, it had disappeared, leaving the pearly white ground shattered within its prior surroundings.

Shuyuns mind couldn't help but blank at the sight before him. Maybe today he was lucky, seeing so many beings and things of such beauty. Or maybe, the events that followed would result in his misfortune.

Her long, silver hair that glistened with the rays of sunshine through the dust of the shredded tree roots cascaded down her back. Though the area around her was full from the filth of broken rubble and trees, it did nothing to diminish her beauty, and instead, enhanced her as its center point.

In her right hand, the same green blade appeared, not a mark on its edge. Her hands, matching with the white marble with not a blemish to see, was a treat to the eyes of the beholder. And though her movements were slow and steady, they portrayed endless grace as she brought the sword down to her waist.

She seemed to be the definition of that of a valkyrie, her stature unyielding before any enemy.

It was really hard to wrap around just how Meiying was the product of such a parent, their attitudes and personalities completely contrasting the other.

"Lady!"

The once aggressive and domineering girl knelt immediately at the sight of the figure. Like a nervous puppy, all signs of expression faded from her face as she dispersed her Qi, causing the remnants of the large tree root to disappear.

Meiying, clearly identifying the figure before her, lowered her head. This whole situation was especially awkward for her, as she had never disobeyed her mother. Within the many years she has lived, it had never crossed her of the notion, more so, there was nothing to prompt her. And while she may not be at fault, as she had no say in Shuyun's sudden action, she was not one to bring him down like such. She had no idea of his fate, and the least she wanted to do was make it worse. After all, seeing the side of her mother she had never seen before, it only further startled her.

It was as if the person before her wasn't her mother, but a completely different being. The mother she had always recognized was calm and gentle, nice and adoring. It made her think that the reason behind her change at this moment in time was that she was mad, angry at her for disobeying the only thing she ever asked of her.

"Leave us Ai"

Through all of the sudden events, Ai hadn't got a good look at the perpetrators. The moment she feel a prying vision laying upon her body from behind, she attacked. It was common knowledge that this grand room was the throne of the Queen of the Elves. No others besides her, and the lady herself, the queen, could ever enter.

Subjects of the Queen could only enter upon her calling, so for a person to be so secretive, within the throne room of the Queen could not possibly have any good intentions.

But for her lady, the Queen of the Elves, to protect them in such a manner? Who were they? And why hadn't she heard about them?

She was the Queens closest aide, for beings out of her spectrum of knowledge that even she didn't know, it could only mean they were really important people.

But, were such superior beings really so weak? Had it not been for the queens interference, Ai was sure that they were both dead.

So who were they, really?

As much as she was interested, it was not her place to ask on the Queens private matters. Taking her chance to escape her blunder, she deeply bowed as she quickly exited the throne room, softly closing the grand doors behind her.

Shuyun stood somewhat awkwardly awaiting for the 'mother' in front of him to turn around to face them. She had not looked back at them since the moment she had arrived.

He didn't really fear death as much as he did in his first life, this was not saying he wanted to die, but he wouldn't mind. Although he was excited to explore this new world, he was sure he wouldn't be granted any second chances.

He was more worried about Meiying's situation. He had started this mess, and if he were to ruin the relationship between the mother daughter duo over his somewhat selfish desire of 'saving' her, there really was no hell fit for him.

But just as his anxiety was about to overflow, the being before him disappeared, appearing beside Meiying. He wasn't even able to react before she took Meiying into her arms. Though, contrary to his expectations, it wasn't one of aggression.

"Daughter! I was so worried something had happened to you when you weren't home when I arrived!"

She brought her two arms around the head of her daughter as she buried her head within her bosom. She seemed to hold Meiying so tight that anymore force for her would cause her head to explode.

Shuyun couldn't believe his eyes.

'Was this the same person?'
