Chapter 4: The Visiting Lecturer

Oji hated teaching.

He hated kids. He hated laziness. He hated school. He hated the importance so many attached to things like Potential and Comprehension. He hated everything about teaching from the ground up.

It was bad enough in a small Kingdom like Zhou, but the treatment and the extent to which Potential and Comprehension were emphasized only grew the further removed from such a tiny place one became. Take Oji himself. He'd been the only one to actually fail his graduating class and tested the lowest Potential across all of Emor. Or at least the entirety that those in charge bothered to look at anyways. Which meant he was expelled from his exalted position at the peak of Emor instantly and had to drift until his only saving grace, his only exceptional point, managed to catch the eye of a talent scout in one of the Kingdoms neighboring Zhou, the nation of Qin.

What saving grace? His Combat Skill. Oji had never lost a fight to someone who wasn't at least 2 Stages above him, no matter what they had Comprehended or how high graded their Bloodline Potential was. And he'd faced those who had top grades in both before. Oji came out on top with nothing more than his sheer grit and instinct. As Oji himself would put it, "It doesn't matter how powerful your attacks are when they miss. It doesn't matter how tough you are when you stand there like a sandbag. Cultivation, Comprehensions, Bloodlines, even Techniques only gave an advantage. One that most people waste by lacking the actual skill needed in a fight."

The talent scout had noticed Oji's insane Combat Skill, which was an even more stark contrast when put in the realm of a mere Qin, and thought he'd found a one in a million genius. He'd immediately offered joining his sect, the Crimson Sect that held sway over 14 countries, to Oji while promising immeasurable benefits.

Oji had eagerly accepted. It was the chance he needed to rebuild himself until he could return home in splendor and shut his younger brother's conceited mouth for good. Sivla had what Oji considered rather good talent for fighting, and Sivla had plenty enough ruthlessness, but Sivla didn't understand how to be ruthless to himself like Oji. After all, it was Sivla's idea to dump him in a random place on this foresaken land. A land so poor that let alone Emor, even the other powers didn't bother to rule it. Unfortunately for Oji, his dream of using the Crimson Sect didn't turn out that way.

After taking in Oji they'd looked at the Manifestation of his Origination, asked him questions to evaluate his Comprehensions and had tested his Potential. Then the people in charge had threatened to kick him out because, in their estimation, Oji would never make it to Initial Broken Skeleton Foundation. The talent scout managed to pacify them after suggesting Oji spar with their pick of anyone within 3 Stages of him. They had picked a ferocious genius, Nabaha. It was the only fight Oji had ever lost to someone only 3 Stages above him, but the battle had been close enough to convince Nabaha himself to speak up for Oji. The Crimson Sect yielded.

"It's not like we don't have uses for a man who we can count on to forever be at the Limit of Pinnical Origination who is capable of fighting Initial Broken Skeleton Foundations. It will be a immense boost to the face of our Crimson Sect, especially with how useless he is otherwise." One of the Elders agreed, not even bothering to lower his voice. "Let's just support his cultivation until then before saving our resources. Then he can either get his own resources or just enjoy embarrassing Kings and Clan Leaders in our name."

That had been 5 years ago. At that point Oji had been a Perfect Broken Origination. For a 15 year old in these wastelands it was already considered genius speed, but that was because his family in Emor had showered him in resources before his younger brother had proven to be a genius who broke into Low Origination before his older brother made Bottom Origination. Now 20, Oji was still considered fast in Zhou having entered High Origination. After all, that was averaging 4 Stages in a year, though on actual timeline it would show spikes and lulls. The Crimson Sect was surprised by his speed, but he was still nothing compared to their geniuses. Nabaha had recently exited seclusion after breaking through to Skeleton Foundation Realm when Oji left.

Now Oji was just treated like luggage, being bundled up and shipped off to assess the talents of the kids in Zhou after reading off the script they gave him. He had strict orders to make his selections only according to Comprehension and Potential. It made him want to puke. If they hadn't offered to give him half the resources that the Kingdom of Zhou had paid to hire a member of the Crimson Sect for this task, he'd have refused to leave his training for this farce.

He felt even worse when he arrived at the Aoi Kani Clan. He'd never seen a Clan that was so poor! How could these people afford to teach someone how to properly cultivate? Oji was prepared to bet that the only way for these guys to improve themselves was if Oji agreed to recommend some of their star talents. He silently prayed there would be, for the sake of the entire Aoi Kani Clan.
