Chapter 2: New friends and new enemies
Rex was running along thought the forest, following a girl he had never met before and running through a forest of no return, at least that's what it felt like to him. As he continued, he figured to try and get more information out of her as he said
"So where are we going. We seem to be heading somewhere but I don't know where"
"Well our instructor told us that we're suppose to find some relics at an abandoned temple..."
"Wait, us" interrupted Rex "so there are others out here."
"Yes, but along the way we have to make up our teams with whoever we come in contact with and, so far, the only person I've met is you. I was trying to land when we were thrown into the forest. I was about to land but you in my landing area. I'm still sorry I landed on you.
"Geez, kid. You've got more heavy guilt with you than a nervous robber. I said it was fine should've moved when I heard you" said Rex as they continued through the forest.
"Hey. I'm not a kid. I'm Ruby rose and I'm a growing teenager. After all, I drink milk" she said in pride.
Rex just chuckled at her reasoning and said "That's not how that works, but nice try." That just caused Ruby to pout as she looked ahead. As they continued on, Rex began to think on where he was or where he wished he knew where he was at. And he had no clue as he then turned back to the girl. The girl said her name was Ruby so he began to think,
"Ok so I don't know where I am and this girl is my only hope at figuring out where the heck I am so maybe I can get out of here and find a better service to call providence." thought Rex as he then saw Ruby come to a complete stop but he didn't stop in time and crashed into a person that was ahead of him.
Rex groaned as he got up on his knees and said
"Sorry, I wasn't watching where I was going" as he looked down and saw who he had crashed into.
It was another girl, slightly taller than Ruby but she had white hair, a white dress and her hair was in a ponytail. And to the side of her was a long, pointy sword.
Rex then got up and held out his hand to her and said "Sorry. Here, I'll help you up" as he held out his hand. The girl grunted at him in a very annoyed manner and slapped his hand away as she got up on her own.
"Sheesh. Touchy little champ, ain't she" he muttered. The girl got up and grabbed her sword and began to point it at Rex and said
"Whats the big idea of running into me."
Rex was starting to not like this girl. He said he was sorry and she still was about to shish kabob him. He then replied in an annoyed tone saying
"Look, lady. I said I was sorry I was following her" as he pointed at ruby "and I didn't see you as quick as her to see you. Now stop being so stuck up and put that over grown toothpick down" as he grabbed her sword and pointed it away from him.
All the girl said was "Toothpick?! I'll have you know this was created from my family industry. It is not a toothpick but a very dangerous weapon. And unless you want to be on the receiving end of my sword, you'll shut your mouth" as she grunted at his attitude and the looked at Ruby and gave her a look that Rex could tell they the two of them seemed to have a history.
He waited for the both of them to finish their staring contest but the girl just turned around and walked away while he heard Ruby said "Wait, where are you going. We're suppose to be teammates" as she kicked the ground.
Rex already wasn't to sure about her as he said in a sarcastic way "You ask me you should just leave her. She's just rude."
"Eh, I may have something to do with her being all grumpy" said Ruby while hanging her head a bit.
"Why. What did you do" asked Rex.
"I may have knocked over luggage and made a big mess."
"Did you apologize."
"Yes" said Ruby
"Then she shouldn't be so snooty for something that was an accident."
Then they both saw Weiss come out of the bushes and drag Ruby with her saying "By no means, does this make us friends."
"You came back" cheered Ruby as she was still being dragged along
Weiss the took notice of Rex and had never seen him before. She didn't see him at the launch pads, nor upon first entry into Beacon. She turned to Ruby saying "Seeing you again, I never saw you at the entrance of this activity. Who is this boy. I don't recall seeing him anywhere."
"Oh right sorry. Weiss, this is Rex. Rex, this is Weiss Schnee" said Ruby, cheerfully.
Weiss then reluctantly held out her hand as she said "Pleasure to meet you. But don't get this meeting wrong. I'm still angry for knocking me over but its still courteous for me to introduce myself" replied Weiss.
"Oh so now she's introducing herself. And she's still got to be rude as she does it" thought Rex as he then looked at her and her scowl.
"Ok so she seems to be one of those high and mighty people so I might be able to get more information out of her than red head over here" he thought.
"Same to you" as he shook her hand.
"Well one things for sure. I'm not going to ace my work by being slowed down by either of you" complained Weiss.
"Good lord. You have no sense happiness or to be calm do you" thought Rex. But he then Ruby sneak up on Weiss and spooked her.
"See I'm not slow. I'm quick on my feet" as she ran through the bushes.
"Hey kid, don't go running off like that. I still don't know where we're going to so don't go taking us in a different direction. We need to stick together" said Rex as he chased after her. Weiss saw them both leaving and told them to wait up.
When she got out of the bushes, she saw that none of them were there. She called out to both of their names and heard some bushes moving.
"Ruby. Rex. Is that you" she said as she looked closer at the bushes and out popped a bunch of Grimm. They crawled out of the bushes and began to surround her. Weiss was shocked by this but then began breath in and out, trying to remain calm. If she was going to be Huntress, then she needed to be able to handle situations like these. She then took out her Rapier and readied herself.
She began to think back on her training in her home and how she should prepare herself for battle. She then turned her attention back to the Grimm. She locked her gaze on one and then charged at one of the Grimm and was about to take a stab at it until Ruby came in out of nowhere and then sliced the Grimm up. Weiss quickly took evasive action and threw her blast at a nearby tree and then the tree blew up and went up in flams. Ruby turned back to look at Weiss and what had just happened. But before she knew it, she was kicked back by a Grimm and ended up hitting Weiss and fell down with her.
"Watch it" Ruby complained.
"Excuse me. You attacked out of turn. I could've killed you" yelled Weiss.
"You'll have to try a little bit harder than that" mumbles Ruby.
They heard more movement in the bushes but then heard a voice saying,
"Ruby, stop running around. You know I can't.... keep..... up" said Rex as he looked in horror and scarceness at the beasts that had surrounded him and girls.
Rex took one good look at them and was shocked by what the looked like. They were black coated creatures, with what looked like, white bones all over them with red eyes. And all he thought was,
"I've never seen Evos like them before. But I guess it's something new with the nanites" he mumbled to himself. He then concentrated on just getting rid of the Evos and saving the girls. He cracked his knuckles as he said
"Relax girls. These things are no problem. Just leave them to me" he said as he began to charge at one of the creatures. The girls saw him charging at one of the beasts and thought he was crazy to fight one of them, especially without a weapon.
The creature he charged at saw him coming its way and began charging at him too. The beast stopped and raised it paw to slash at Rex, but Rex took this opportunity and jumped towards it belly and readied his nanites. He forced his arm out and said,
"Shut him down, little guys" and forced the nanites into the beast and waited to find the nanites within them. But as he released his nanites, he soon found out that there was no nanites in the beast. Nothing but darkness within the monster. This shook Rex to the very bottom of his core. In that moment, as he brought his nannies back into him, he thought
"How is that possible. How can this thing have no nanites. Not even dormant ones in him. I just saw darkness. Wait, if it's not an Evo then..." he looked back at the beast and saw that it's paw was close to slicing him up. Rex gasped as he knew he couldn't dodge it in time. He closed his eyes at the horror.
But then he heard a slicing sound and a loud roar after that. He slowly opened his eyes and saw that the bear had been sliced in half but then it began to disappear into dust.
When the dust cleared, he found Ruby in the other side of the grimm, with a shocked expression. She then yelled "What were you doing?! You could've been killed. What were you trying to do" as she had a worried expression on her face.
Rex just looked around at the grimm and then back at his hands as he just stumbled
"I...uh.....I thought that...." but he couldn't find the words as he was at a lost for them. He then felt Ruby grab his arm and said
"Come on. You've got to stand aside. Let us deal with them" as she began dragging Rex away from the grimm. She dragged him over to a tree and turned around while letting go of his hand and said
"Stay here. Don't fight the grimm unless you have a weapon" she said as she turned around and went back to help Weiss.
Rex was at a loss for words. He had so many questions and yet he couldn't find any at the moment. He grabbed his right hand, the hand he used to try and cure the grimm and just stared at it as his thoughts ran wild.
"What the hell was that. It wasn't an Evo, cause there wasn't any nanites at all in that thing. Not a single one." He then remembered Ruby called them grimM.
"Grimm, grimm. Why would she call them that. Aren't they Evos. They look like them, in a sense, ..... but.....but....." he thought as he was still confused by so many things. While girls continued to fight the creatures, Rex began to gather his thoughts as he replayed all the things that didn't make sense. The girl mentioning how she didn't know what he was talking about when he mentioned, the broken moon, now these creatures with absolutely no nanties in them.
Rex decided to do one last test to see if what he thinks is true about his current situation. He looked back at the tree he was at and put his hand on it. He remembered that sometimes even trees and plant life had nanites in them. If this tree had none in it at all, then it confirmed what he believed.
He sent his nanites through the tree and searched the whole thing. What he found in that tree was...
"No nanites at all" he muttered. That finally proved it. There is no nanites here, other than his. Then that meant ..... he was on another world. I mean, he knew that there was other worlds ever since meeting Ben and finding out he was from a different universe. So it was true. He was in a different world.
"But how?" he asked "How did I end up here. What am I doing here. Who sent me" he thought as he was brought out of his memories by someone grabbing his hand and said "RUN" as he was then yanked by someone, which turned out to be Ruby as they ran further away from where they were. Rex finally told Ruby to stop as he finally got up and dusted off his pants from being dragged. He then heard Ruby say
"What was that. That should've been easy" as she looked back towards the fire.
"Well if you had taken into the slightest bit of caution with your strikes, I wouldn't have set the forest on fire" screamed Weiss as she looked at Rex.
"Not to mention, we have someone with us that can't fight, not even having a weapon on them."
Rex didn't have a comeback at all. He was still shook by the events that had transpired in the last few minutes.
"Hey. Don't insult him like that. Rex looks like he can fight. He just probably wasn't ready.
"How does that make sense. In a fight, you have to be ready. Which the same could be said for you" huffed Weiss
"What's that suppose to mean" yelled Ruby.
"I'm just surprised that someone who talks so much would do so little during an encounter."
Rex was still thinking on the things he had just learned but he could still hear the two girls fighting and thought
"Oh my god. When will these two stop bickering like 6 year olds. Reminds me of when Six got angry at me and BoBo for arguing over the best meals from the local Taco Stand in Toledo and interrupting those boring mission meetings" mumbled Rex as he pinched the bridge between his eyes.
"Well excuse me if you need my help to win a fight. I'm fine on my own" yelled Ruby
"Well congratulations on being the strongest child to get..."
"ENOUGH" screamed Rex pulling Ruby and Weiss our of their argument. "I don't care what it is that you two have between each other, but I would like to get out of this God forsaken forest. I've had a bad enough day already and I don't need your guy's petty squabbling making it worse. So why don't you both just shut up and continue on this journey and get out of this forest. Ok."
"Whatever" retorted Weiss as she sheathed her sword and began to walk away. Rex was so close to forming his Smack Hands and swatting her like the bug she is. He followed the girls as Ruby screamed and cut a tree down in frustration.
"Just what in the hell have I gotten myself into. And where exactly is it that I'm in. Is it an unknown region in the world or what" thought Rex as they continued on their way.
