Chapter 161: The Death of...

The castle's outer defenses burst into full force.

Turrets were deployed to decimate the werewolves, hidden rotating blades were activated to deal with anything that crawled, liquid nitrogen traps were sprung to neutralize the aggressive and agile transformations, explosive cherries were dropped that the trolls bit into causing their heads to explode like fireworks, cauldrons of boiling oil were poured in and right after that the flamethrowers were deployed....

The Death Eaters and their minions were simply unprepared for such a bizarre yet effective variety of defensive measures and the casualties were swift, baffling and massive.

But it is also true that because these measures were provided by few people for a short period of time, most were exhausted after several minutes.

It was then that Baron Sanguinary reappeared while commanding the altered stone armors, the castle's metal armors and the Silver Chariots.

While these obstacles are busy taking care of the cannon fodder, Death Eaters sneak in and the battles move inside the castle.

Percy and Ferd fight two Death Eaters and Percy manages to knock out the puppet minister, Pius Thicknesse, making a joke that Fred laughed at before an explosion swallowed him up in the next instant.

-Fred! -Percy cried out in horror as he saw his little brother die.

-Cough! I'm fine, just a bit dazed," said the twin as he stood up covered in some of his own blood and dust mixed in, watching in genuine horror as the bracelet he was wearing cracked and crumbled into pieces, "I think Soisen might have some Diviner's gifts, we really saved ourselves a good one by deciding not to play tricks on him," he commented nervously to try and dispel the frightening thought of what would have happened if he didn't have the bracelet with him, "Do you happen to have a herbovitalizing potion lying around?

Meanwhile, Potter along with Ron and some volunteers headed to the Shrieking House following the connection he feels with the dark lord, where Voldemort was waiting for the first confrontations to end.

On the way outside, they encounter Dementors coming out to try to stop them but Luna, Seamus Finnigan and Ernie Mcmillan take them down using their own Patronuses.

The two eventually manage to sneak through the box willow and reach the Shrieking House.

But unfortunately (or fortunately), Voldemort seems to have left the place just moments before their arrival. But the journey does not happen in vain and they discover traces of snakeskin on the floor, evidence that Voldemort has indeed created a new Horcrux as Soisen estimated.

At this point, Potter and Ron can only sigh with admiration at the wizard's mind.

Depressed, they return to the castle, where everyone is helping to move the dead to the Great Dining Hall.

A significantly smaller number compared to the original timeline.

Soisen's defensive measures helped a lot, but it was impossible for them to do the whole job and people still died fighting for their beliefs.

Soisen was looking at one of the dead with pain in his eyes, unable to believe that he really couldn't have saved her.

Nymphadora Tonks did not survive the attack when she was ambushed by three Death Eaters.

Perhaps he didn't know her well enough to be called friends, but he interacted a few times with her and liked her. Part of what happened to Lupin was actually to spare Tonks from the suffering that would ensue because of them.

Fred met his one-eared twin and told George what happened with the explosion and the bracelet. But when he saw the look on Soisen's face, he knew it wasn't the time to say thank you. They needed to wait until all this madness was over.

But they would remember this favor.

As they all contemplated the situation, Voldemort amplified his voice and called out to let everyone know that if Harry Potter surrendered in the Forbidden Forest, it would end the battle for good.

After all, every drop of blood of either a wizard or a witch is a terrible loss to the magical world.

Following the plan, Potter announces that he is going to turn himself in.

-Hey!" called Soisen to Potter as he prepared to leave the castle, "If you need some spiritual support, remember to use the snitch," he had no idea if Potter figured out how to open it yet or would do it in the forest, but when a person is able to muster the determination to die, you have to give him some respect.

So he revealed to him how to open it before turning away.

Potter continued on his way lost in thought.

Was Dumbledore's inheritance also discussed with Soisen?

As confused as he was, he decided to take the floor and following his instructions, he obtained the Resurrection Stone, which he used to summon what he believed to be the spirits of his parents, who encourage him and accompany him to the clearing where Voldemort is, protecting him from the Dementors.

Soisen suddenly thought of this very scene, at that very moment from the castle.

Were the ghosts of the Resurrection Stone considered a half Patronus?

Well, it was a curiosity he was willing to leave unfinished for the rest of his long, long life.

The green burst of the killing curse could be glimpsed from the castle, though he didn't know if it was on purpose or actually hitting a valid target had that glowing effect.

Potter had his death experience seeing the state of Voldemort's soul and got the support of Narcissa Malfoy by revealing that Draco is alive (technically he is paralyzed right now, but perfectly alive) and returned to the castle in the arms of Hagrid who is crying inconsolably.

Why didn't I give Harry my magic horseshoe?
