Chapter 2: Chapter 1
In the human kingdom of Viridicus, a medium size kingdom, a child is stargazing. This child is a bastard of a lesser noble. This child's name is Koa; his mother died after he turned three. This resulted in him having to return to lesser noble's house. The cause of his mother's death was never known to Koa.
It has been three since Koa return to the noble's home, since Koa is a bastard son he receive no benefits from his father. Koa was only given a room to rest and food scraps. His elder brother and sister are currently undergoing education from a private tutor. Koa was told to work within the house; learning from the maids and butlers because that is the closest I will get to having an education.
Koa woke up early in the morning to meet with the one of the maids to help. The maid that Koa was assigned was Samantha a strong-willed woman, in her mid-thirties, her hair light brown and was tied in a bun to not interfere with her work.
Koa walk to a small building a little way away from the house to meet Samantha
"Good morning Miss Samantha." Koa spoke in a light voice to not wake anyone else.
Slightly started by my whisper like voice Samantha respond. "Morning to you as well Koa"
"What will I be doing today" Koa asked.
"You will be helping me wash the laundry, and then report to Max for your next task." Samantha said with a slight smile.
Samantha was thinking. 'Why do I have to in charge of the bastard? Wouldn't it be better to teach him swordsmanship or teach to read?'
"You will watch me the first few times then I expect you to be able to keep up after that." Samantha said.
"I will try my best." Koa said with a determined look on his face.
Samantha began washing the clothes with haste. It was not long until she finished her examples of washing the clothes.
"Now you will begin washing and I will hang the clothes to dry" Said Samantha
"Ok I will begin" Koa said.
As Koa began washing the clothes Samantha was watching intently, waiting to see my mistakes. To her surprise Koa mimicked her almost perfectly. As the more a got used to the process of washing the clothes Koa began to increase in speed. The time that took two maids to wash laundry wash two and a half hours. Samantha and Koa finished in one hour.
Samantha was in a daze because how fast we finished the work.
"Should I go report to Max now?" Koa asked.
Samantha faintly hears my question.
"Yes" she responded
Her thoughts were 'That is surprising being able top adapt to working like that, maybe I won't mind him working under me if he can help like that'
Koa began to make my way back to the house. He noticed his older brother, Brighton Alvin, waiting for his sword instructor to arrive. Brighton had blond hair the same as his sister Abagail; they both treat me like a toy that was for their amusement. The last thing Koa wanted was to be seen by him. As he began to make his way to avoid Brighton, a twig snaped under Koa's foot.
*Crack*
Brighton turned to see who it was. Then a maniacal smile appeared on his face.
"Hey, Koa come here and help me with my sword practice." Brighton said while continuing to smile.
"I don't think I should I was told to go report to Max." Koa said with slightly fear in my voice.
"Don't worry it won't take long. I'm sure Max won't mind helping me." Said Brighton
Reluctantly Koa decided to move toward Brighton. He knew if he did not Brighton would make an excuse to get him punished by my father. Father, Axel Alvin, was ruthless when it came to punishing Koa, hitting, making me skip meals or even making sleep outside. No punishment was ever given Brighton or Abagail.
"How can I help you older brother, I don't have any …." Koa was asking as he got closer.
As Koa got within a three-foot span of Brighton; Brighton moved and slashed his wood sword on the side of my head. The hit began to draw blood.
"As expected of my stepbrother weak, not even able to absorb a hit to the head. HahaHA" Brighton began to laugh
"eha" Koa groaned on the ground
Brighton did not he began to hit Koa all over my body for close to twenty minutes. Tear were streaming down his face as the pain radiated over his body. By the time was finished it felt as if Koa body was lit of fire.
"Alright I think that is enough. Now get out of here before my teacher shows up. I don't want to him to see your disgrace of a face." Brighton said
Koa did not speak only groan and wailed in pain as Koa crawled to his feet. Making his way to the house, as he crossed the threshold Brighton's and Abagail's Mother was looking at as if Koa were diseased.
"Max take the mutt and clean him he is tracking dirt and blood in the house." Said Sky Alvin (Stepmother).
"Of course, Madam." Replied Max
'Thank god, at least she won't be staring at me anymore. This kid is only thing that I have seen that can disrupt Mrs. Alvin focus and put her in the foulest mood.' Max thought
Max grabbed a change of clothes and rags. Max was in his late twenties, dark brown hair, and was slim muscular.
"Let's go kid, before that madam becomes anymore displeased." Max said
Koa did not say anything, just followed him back outside and around to the back side of the house. There was a bucket for washing for the servants of the house and Koa, since he was not allowed to wash in the bath like the rest of my family. Max helped wash the dirt and dried blood off Koa body. He then began to bandage Koa's wounds with clean rags. When finished Koa put on the clean clothes that Max had brought and apologized.
"I am sorry Max for causing more work." Koa said with an apologetic voice.
"No worries kid, so what's your name I have meet everyone in the house you're the only one that I never meet." Max asked.
"Oh. I am Koa…..Koa Alvin" Koa said
His look on his face changed he was afraid.
"My apologizes I did not know you were the nobleman's son" Said Max
"Why are you apologizing?" Koa said while looks thoroughly confused.
"Because I made you bathe outside and did not treat like a nobleman's son" -Max
"But this is where I bathe, and I am normally am treated much worse by everyone." Koa said to him.
"I am a bastard son, so I do not get treated as a noble I just get a place to live and eat." -Koa
Max and Koa continued to talk for a while. He told Koa that he would start work tomorrow.
