CHAPTER: 2 SURPRISES
An hour later the injured Michael reached School grounds, as he headed to his dormitory there wasn't a lack of faces that turned to look his way, yet no one even considered offering any help, they all just stared and whispered to one another mocking or just talking about him.
Look! He got beaten up again.
Shhh, don't be so loud ..hey stop pointing.
Beaten up again, he deserves it, he should just pay the toll, we all have to, why should he be any different.
Cut the crap. We all know those guys are a bunch of bullies, if it wasn't for the fact that we all have good families or even a family to talk about we would be going through the same thing as him.
Sigh, listening to them talk about him didn't really bother him, but the fact that they talked about him not having a family really dampened his spirits.
Life was really unfair, like today Richard and his group of thugs beat him up again for not paying the toll, as for the toll, it's nothing much as protection money, every week Richard and his friends will hang out at a karaoke bar near the bus station and will demand the student to pay protection fees in order to get to school safely.
Which is nothing more than a joke since the bus station is a few blocks away from the school and the only thugs in that area are None other than Richard and his gang.
And to top it off Richard's family is rich so the money he collects from the students is not even worth the shoes he wears everyday.
The only reason for him doing such things, is to pay his thugs out of someone else's pocket, and for the fun of it all, and as for Michael getting beaten up the reason is even simpler. In first year of university after the first semester had ended, Richard started the toll. One day he found out that Michael didn't have the money to pay for the toll and came to cause trouble after finding out he was an orphan. Not only did he beat him up but he also dragged him to the school gate for everyone to see, after that everyone started paying the toll obediently.
As for Michael he stayed there motionless until the school staff heard about a body outside the school gate only to realize it was one of their students.
For the first couple of times the school helped him to the school's nurse office and helped tend to his injuries but after repeated occurrences the school started to ignore there was a problem much like the situation today.
Michael also felt like it was too much to always cause trouble for the school and didn't mind there ignorance of the matter but he always felt it was a little unfair, others got off with a warning and had to pay next time yet he was beaten whether he paid or not just for being an orphan ...the world is really full of surprises.

Uriel_Oblea Okay! so this chapter is not so much as to explain the situation the main character is going through at school but to indirectly explain the characters background you know why explain something that's already a given, you know ...orphan, system we all know what's going on.
