Chapter 2: Joining the academy

The light gray buildings with green grass and fountains around them stood tall as the sun brighten up the large blue words on each building.

My eyes when to the set of buildings in the far back of the academy, the only buildings with black words on them.

"Welcome cadets!!" A man in dark blue pants and jacket with two silver stripes on his shoulders and the green band on the forearms of his jacket.

The silver stripes showed his rank and the green band his department, administration.

"Today you are all accepted into the Galactic Union Academy, you will have some classes together but half of them will be within your graduating field. Those with black uniforms may go to the special military section in the back of the academy."

I gave a quick look around and only saw four other black uniforms and only one female, but a female Luckian,

A race known for their extreme speed and healing rate, behind a sniper rifle they are scary.

The other three looked like normal humans but by their movements anyone could see they been trained, legacies.

We all walked for a mile into the special military section, this section looked very different than any other part of the academy.

Each building contained everything a cadet could want or need, and only houses ten cadets per building for the duration of their academy years.

As we reached the black gates, a man in a full black uniform with four silver stripes on his shoulders, short blonde hair and blue eyes.

"Welcome to Guardian OPS, you will bleed, you will hurt and you will become the best or fail."

Straight and to the point.

"We are not very much liked and we are feared by many, but when conflict comes, they hide behind our backs for that is our duty. Now move."

None of us said a word and walked into the campus.

No grass, no trees, just smooth gray cement and alloy could see inside.

The captain guided us to the building with a huge nine on the side and stop at the door.

Another soldier in black uniform came out the building and stood in-front of us.

"This is LT. Johnson, he will be your house father for the year, follow him, he will explain things. Cadet Nitche, you may stay behind for a moment."

I watched as the other left without a word and only when we were alone did the captain speak again.

"What are your plans cadet Nitche?"

"Graduate in three and be assigned to the Horizon sir."

A long moment passed without a single sound from the captain.

"I served on the Horizon for five years, it's one of the four flagships and only the best can take a post there, you will have to break at least one record to make sure you are accepted."

"Yes sir."

"On your way then."

The LT. and everyone else had been waiting inside for me and as soon as I arrived we went to the living area on the second floor.

Each room looked just like a starship cabin, even the windows didn't show the outside but stars.

A single room apartment really. Living room/dining room with a desk next to the door to the bedroom, and a full bathroom.

Simple and clean.

On the bed I found ten black uniforms and a Guardian weapon.

The Guardian weapon is not your typical blaster, it's a nanite construct, the blaster can morph into anything the wielder can think of as long as it's either programed or the wielder knows every detail of it.

The Guardian blaster can only be programed with four basic shapes, anymore then that the wielder has to give the information with his own knowledge.

I picked up the Guardian blaster and felt it connect to me, it changed into a long sword, then a staff, then a rifle and once again a blaster.

"I'll have to learn the inner working of better weapons before making you do anything really cool."

The information network online maybe huge and people can find anything from engine blueprints to basically anything, but weapons were another matter.

I went to the desk and started going over all the teaching material but found nothing hard or that I have not learn already.

"The combat classes are not bad but compared to what I already know, very basic."

I didn't bother with anything else, took a shower and went to bed.

At five in the morning I was up and already eating when my door and LT. Johnson came about to yell but stopped when he saw me putting my dishes away into the synthesizer or synt for short.

"Good morning LT." I said putting my blaster in the holster on my right leg, "would you like some coffee?"

"You have twenty minute to be in your first class," LT. Johnson said and left.

"Hey, Void?"

"Yes Leon."

"Can you do it, I need a fix."

A glass of blood appeared in the synt just as I finished asking.

It didn't taste the best of at least it worked better than even normal human blood.

Thanks to Void controlling the synt, I been testing every type of blood it can make to see what worked the best and gave me the most benefit.

First class, shooting practice, one hundred feet, fifty feet, and twenty five feet. In other words, useless.

I raised my hand as the LT. teaching the class asked if we had any questions.

"Go ahead cadet?" he looked down at his datapad and froze for a moment, "Yes, cadet Nitche, please speak."

"This training is not even a quarter of what we need or can use to keep us alive. In a starship we will not have that many places to take cover, we should be training in starship simulations. We should also be training to shot down hostiles starting at a minimal of a thousand feet with a rifle stile blaster."

That didn't go over well with the other cadets but the academy did and we started starship battle simulations and planet side simulations where we were all out numbered one hundred to one.

Second class was on space combat, both using a ship and being outside on the ship.

The other classes for the day were more normal with an inclination on warfare and battle tactics.

Even first aid focused not only on keeping the person alive but awake and able to fire a blaster.

All the classes were good but I found a huge flaw. Everyone was teaching how to stun or capture, and only kill as the very last option when their backs are against the wall.

"Damn, I didn't think their training was this bad."
