Chapter 6: Monster That Defies The System II
TIK! TIK! TIK! TIK!
GASP! "This is insane. I felt a little of the pain but its stings a lot. Is it because of the countless beatings I got from training?" I thought to myself. The throbbing sensation would not leave my mind. It is as if I have developed another heart on my side.
"That's enough, William. You cannot go on like this!" Mark yelled. Soon, the other spectators that pity me started telling me to stop as well. "That's enough! Pairing a Void Mage and a Prime Mage is already ridiculous!"
"I-I can do this. I can stil-l fight." My legs went numb. The sudden expense of a large amount of mana took a toll on my legs, the last thing that I want to be incapacitated. "Tch!" I grind my teeth in pain as I force my legs to move. Though I said I can still fight, I am nothing more than a freaking scarecrow. "Fuck!"
"Tenacious. You are like a cockroach. I guess cockroaches can do this much." Andre muttered arrogantly. Seeing as I persisted, he wants to use this as an excuse to beat me badly in front of everyone.
"I will not let that happen so easily. Like hell I'm going down without humiliating you!" I said to myself and extend my hands toward him. "Hah! To the very end, you don't know when to give up!" Andre responded.
What he did was expected. For someone who is bound to win, William had already expected him to do the same attack pattern.
Andre swung his arms and what looked like countless snakes made of earth fly towards me. "I will show you how a spell can be used. Clench your teeth, you bastard! Firebolt!"
Everyone's eyes widened the moment they saw something that should not happen. A magic circle appeared beside Andre, completely catching him off guard. "Wha-!"
KABOOM!
The explosion sent him rolling on the ground and his spell that was about to hit William dispersed.
"I guess my theory is true. The concentration of the caster is vital in the successfulness of a spell." I said to myself. It was another thing scratched off my list to know. I can slowly start to feel it.
The effects of blood loss. It's something that I am experiencing for the first time and it is unexpectedly different from what I envisioned it to be. "Hey! How long do you plan to lie down? For the rest of the day?!" I called out to Andre. I know he is awake but maybe the shock of being harmed by a Void Mage is too much for him to handle.
It was an upset. Nothing like that has happened before nor it was even possible to happen during a fight between a Void Mage and a Prime Mage.
William just broke through the unspoken rule of the world. His will to go against the system opened their eyes to the possibility of Void Mages going against real mages.
"What in the world happened? Is this even possible?" Andre thought to himself. It is something that never happened to him ever since everyone around him realized that he has affinity to the three natures of mana. Everyone just bends to his will as a Prime Mage.
So having someone persist as William does completely infuriates him. "Why? Why did this have to happen to me?! The victor should be clear from the very beginning!" He immediately got up and felt the searing pain from his right side where the center of the blast is from.
"Amazing. That kid is indeed amazing!" the one arranging the pairs could not help but jump from his seat. It was something that never happened in the entire history of the world yet, William is able to do something like that and even harmed his opponent.
"You bastard! I will kill you!" Andre, feeling the humiliation that he got from taking damage from William hastily unleashes a barrage of spells completely forgetting that there are people besides them in the area.
The ground shook heavily as Andre slammed his hands on the ground. Giant metal serpents came out of the ground and at Andre's will, the snakes moved as he pleases. Circling him before finally moving straight towards William.
"Shit. That looks dangerous." I said to myself. I want to try and do the same thing I did before but that will burn a lot of mana in my reserves. "With these legs, I don't really have much choice do I?" magic circles appeared around William yet again, this time they are at a distance where William will not get caught up in the blasts. "Let's try this now!"
KABOOM!
STAB!
The giant snakes were lifted from the ground and just as he expected, they are not the only attack that Andre did. "I knew it," William muttered as another metal spike pierced his other sides.
"Did you think that will be the only attack that I'll make? Fool! Kuhahaha!" Andre laughed hysterically as light appears beside him yet again, magic circles swirled beside him and exploded after a few moments.
KABOOM!
"Did you think that I would get caught up in that blast again? Dream on punk. That only worked last time because you caught me off guard. But that will not happen agai-"
"You talk too much- are you sure about that?" William falls to his knees, his vision got blurry as he slowly feels his thoughts drifting away. "I guess this is it. I will not be able to pass this test again. What a sham-"
My visions get blurry and the last thing I saw are Mark and Hannah breaking through the wall and my clothes drenched in blood.
And then, I fainted
THUD!
Andre is able to defend himself from William's sneak attack but to his surprise, there is another one that's ready to explode under his feet.
"You bastar-!"
KABOOM!
With that, the match between a Void Mage and a Prime Mage ended.
