Chapter 3: Chapter 3
That week was like any other except for one major change...it was quite; the type of quiet that makes your bones ache and your mind race for a week it persisted in this constant state of what can only be described as eeriy calm, then like a sudden storm or the waves thundering against the rocks the world around me was torn asunder and the days of peace I was so accustomed to pulled asunder.
Looking out over the field before I could even see the lights reflecting off the swords and shield of the men across from me I saw the dirt shake and the sound of the thundering voices of men spurred into a frenzy it was at that point I realised why the recruitment order went out, all able bodied men are now in the castle protecting the Baron whilst we are left out here to fend for ourselves, for a short while all I could do was curse my luck and more myself for being to stubborn...if I had accepted the recruitment mayhem I would have been safe.
I longingly looked towards the direction of the nearest town hoping for some sign that we were not abandoned to our fate, only to see a scar across the land, MEN...OUR MEN the soldiers of the baron. The hope we had been desperately looking for in front of us only for me to have the sudden and chilling thought "We are in the middle", that sobering thought brought any thought of hope to a stark and bleak end as the concophonous sounds of horns and drums signified the start to the absolute carnage about to unfold as man and mount rode towards the once quiet town that was soon to become the flashpoint for a war that would span my entire life and bring me to the forefront in a way I never thought possible and push me on a path I never wanted.
