Chapter 17: The Devil's Blade

"Hand me the sword Hiro," Leonna said. "There's some blood on it for you to drink, so I'll need to make sure you get the right amount."

"I could just touch the blood with my finger and drink that, but I'll leave this to the expert." I said.

I handed Leonna the sword and she took it from my hands, but after a few seconds she suddenly chunked it away from her. I noticed that the expression on her face seemed lifeless when she took the sword.

"What's wrong?" I asked a little concerned.

"I-I...s-saw...wh-what...h-how...?"

Leonna was trembling on her feet. She slowly sank down to the ground. Her face showed nothing but fear and shock.

"What...is that thing?" Leonna said pointing at the sword.

I picked it up to see what she was talking about, but I didn't see anything wrong with it.

"I don't see anything abnormal about it." I said.

Leonna gave me a confused look. She clearly had to have seen something if she is giving me that look.

"W-We need to take that thing to Goddess Gleam," Leonna suddenly said. "There's something wrong with that sword."

"How is there something wrong with this sword?" I asked.

"We just need to get this to the goddess right now! It's forbidden to enter her palace unauthorized, but she does let the people she summoned from other worlds inside."

I was really confused about what she was going on about, but I decided to follow her because she seemed pretty freaked out. I was a little curious myself. Could there really be something wrong with this sword?

"We're pretty far away from The Town of Colors," I said. "Are we really going to walk all the way there?"

"We can just send a prayer to her." Leonna said.

"A prayer?"

"Yes. If you take a piece of paper, write a message to the goddess, then burn it while saying 'O great Goddess Gleam, please hear thy prayer', then the message will be sent to her.

"But wouldn't a lot of other people do that," I pointed out. "If so, then how will our message get through all the other prayers sent to her."

"Don't worry. I'm a member of the Army of Light, so she'll get my message pretty quickly.

"We went back to our house. Leonna tore out a piece of paper from an empty book she kept in her leather bag, as well as a pencil. She wrote something down on the paper, then she handed it to me.

"I'm not well acquainted with fire magic, so you should light it." she said.

Well at least I'm better than her at something. I summoned a blue magic circle

and began a chant.

"CANDLELIGHT." I chanted.

A small flame flickered on the tip of my index finger. I flicked it at the piece of paper. The paper burn to ashes pretty quickly.

"Now we wait." Leonna said.

After about five minutes, a purple magic circle developed underneath our feat. The light grew brighter until it completely engulfed me and Leonna.

The room we were teleported in was brightly colored. Paintings that told the history of this world were hanging all over the walls. I knew exactly where we were when I saw the bed in the middle of the room.

"My my. I never thought that you would ever join forces with a member of the Army of Light."

I turned to see a familiar woman standing next to her bed. Her long, black hair and deep, red eyes were an alluring sight. She wore no clothes, so her naked body was exposed for all to see. I wasn't fazed by it this time, even if it's been two years since we've seen each other.

"It's nice to see you again Gleam." I said casually.

"Likewise," she said. "Leonna, there's so need for you to bow down."

"Uhh...right..." Leonna said standing back up.

"Leonna said that there's something wrong with this sword," I said. "So what's up with it."

I handed the sword to Gleam. She examined it thoroughly and nodded.

"The sword you found isn't what you think it is." Gleam said.

"Is that sword not meant for the hero?" Leonna asked.

"No. This sword...was meant for the next heir to the throne."

"The throne to what?" I asked.

"The throne...to Devil's Palace."

The entire room was filled with a bone-chilling atmosphere. Those words that Gleam spoke filled my head and kept repeating over and over again.

"When you held the sword, did something feel...off about it?" Gleam asked me.

"No...it felt like a regular sword." I said.

"What about you Leonna?"

"W-Well...it sh-showed me things...that were...unpleasant." Leonna said trembling on her feat.

"I used the sword quite a few times," I said. "The first time I used it was when Xylvia was taken from me. A dark flame as black as midnight engulfed me along with the sword. I killed a member of the Army of Darkness, but that was it. I was knocked out by a figure that rode a horse. He took Xylvia away somewhere. I'm training so that I can get strong enough to get her back."

"Goddess Gleam," Leonna suddenly said. "If what he says is true, then we have to destroy that sword right away."

"There is no need for that." Gleam said.

"But Goddess G-!"

"We can use this to our advantage. Devil has been looking for that sword for thousands of years, because that sword...belongs to Devil."

I looked down at the sword. It looked like a regular old sword to me. I never would've imagined that this sword actually belonged to Devil.

"Isn't that just proving my point as to why we should destroy it?" Leonna asked.

"The sword accepted him as it's wielder," Gleam said. "And because of that, Hiro now has the power to control the fate of this world."

Gleam turned to face me. In was still shocked by the fact that the sword I was holding belonged to Devil.

"Hiro Satomi," Gleam said. "You just might be able to end this war once and for all."

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Kuro_Kaen Kuro_Kaen

Sorry about the hiatus. I gave two other light novels that I'm working on, so it took a while for this chapter to get out. And no, they are not isekai related, so don't think that I only write things because of the trend. I hope you guys are enjoying this so far.
