Chapter 3: BROTHER NOT FATHER; NOT ONE YET
"Yes, of course. Give me a moment... Father."
The word hung awkwardly on her lips and Santina did not think that she could get herself used to it anytime soon.
Addressing Mikael as 'Father' still felt weird for her.
Mikael and Santina were not just a mere acquaintance.
Mikael used to be her junior while she was in high school. Although Santina was one-year younger than the other party.
It was just that, Santina had an above-average IQ so she was able to accelerate her years at studying and graduate two years earlier compared to her peers.
Santina and Mikael were from the same school and so she had been friends with him way before she even met her fiancee.
In fact, it was actually Mikael who introduced Sebastian to Santina, since the two guys used to be best of friends and became almost inseparable after going to the same college.
"What bought you here Father???"
Santina was not someone who loved beating around the bush so she no longer bothered with pleasantries and asked Mikael right away for his reason for coming over.
"Well, Santina... The thing is, we both know that you used to work with the forensic department and I do know that you are also still lending them a hand every now and then."
Mikael answered but Santina only remained silent afterward. Probably weighing her next words
"By the way, no need to call me Father. I am not one yet. Just so you know, you can still call be Mikael like you do before or Brother Kel, if you want."
He added after a short while because he noticed that Santina seemed to feel awkward calling him 'Father' knowing that they used to be drinking buddies back in the days.
"I will stick with Mikael then."
Santina replied simply with a smile
The two did not talk for a while and took their time as they walk along a small corridor that was lined with potted flowers
"Officer Aragon referred me to you and he told me many amazing things about you too. It was actually him who told me that you could be a great help to me."
Mikael added as they turned sharp left at the corner.
"Well, Officer Aragon is a good man. That is for sure. He was not someone who would speak ill of the others."
Santina said as she tried to casually brush away the topic off her shoulder. It seemed that she was already having a good guess of where their conversation was about to end.
From the current looks of it, the department seemed to be asking for her help again, but Santina had long turned her back to the department.
She did not want to have anything to do with them anymore.
On the few occasions that she helped them solved the cases, Santina had only done that because she could not say no to them.
But ever since she opened up a possible case to them and they did not take her seriously, she started to lost her compassion on them altogether.
However, if it was a word from Officer Aragon, himself, then Santina might have a hard time turning him down.
The police department, albeit mostly corrupt, still had its fair share of precious few good men and Kurt Aragon was undeniably one of them.
Although a lower level superior at that who had some decades of largely unawarded experience under his belt.
"Officer Aragon was now the chief of police."
"Yeah, I actually heard about that on the news before. Well then, please send my regards and congratulations to him."
Santina was sincerely delighted when he said that.
Kurt Aragon used to be Sebastian's immediate supervisor and was one of the few who defended Sebastian's name before.
That was why Santina respected him and she believed that the other party truly deserved the promotion.
Officer Aragon had received countless awards already throughout his career due to his meritorious service in the agency and he was also one of the few who had a long and remarkably untarnished career in the justice system.
Yet for some reason, he always somehow failed to land the high profile post or the juicy appointments.
Not because he lacked talent or whatsoever, but rather due to the fact that he lacked powerful backing in the industry.
Something that had become more essential than talent nowadays.
It was only when his predecessor stepped down in the midst of corruption charges did Officer Aragon finally had his time to shine.
The limelight brought the attention of the prime minister towards him and it was then that he was plucked out of his semi-retirement,
Despite the protests from many quarters that the other party was a nobody; and an old nobody at that the prime minister still appointed Offi er Sanches to the post and that was how he landed on the job as the chief of police.
Something that was so rare to happen in the field of politics.
