Chapter 48: Butcher of the Forest (Final)

{Earlier...}

Hyoran led the people to the bridge beyond their village and turned to the right. Due to the narrow bridge, some people had to go around the bridge. Thankfully, the river was shallow enough to cross safely.

They turned to the right where Hyoran came from which leads to the Wind Elementals stationed near the ancient ruins.

And then they hear voices in the distance, the yelling and screaming was heard and explosions erupting, shaking the ground. Olken knows what to do for sure.

"We can hear it! Everyone rescue the lad!" Olken commanded and everyone charged. Hyoran also followed Olken.

When they reached past the elementals, they see a sight of a war zone. They all stopped to see that the bandits were being slain by the dozens and magic being used by one person.

"The lad is commanding 6 monsters?" Olken said, surprised.

"A Silver Wind Wolf, Black Shade Wolf, Scythe Spider, Middle Wind Elemental, Despair Owl, and Flare Fox!?" one goat beastkin said.

"The kid is using Water, Ice, Lightning, and Fire magic without chanting!" one villager said.

"Huh? I thought he can only use Earth and Wind." Hyoran said confused.

"Doesn't look like he can do just that, lass." Olken said.

"Evolution!" Kain said and the two wolves began to evolve. A large gust of wind and mass of darkness came forth.

"They're evolving?! Here?!"

They were surprised that both Silver Wind Wolf and Black Shade Wolf were sighted as they're once deemed, rare monsters even in the Nolten Forest, but what they see is more astounding.

"Silver Gale Wolf and Black Shadow Wolf...those two wolves are almost considered legendary monsters as they're very rare in this forest. Some even call it divine beasts. And yet here they are fighting alongside a child." one fox beastkin said.

Some time later, the screams of the bandits fill the air as Kain's monsters decimate them by the dozens, Kain also cut down everything in his path like a mad beast in battle.

And then the scream of an ogre shook the air as Kain brutally tortures and murders the ogre.

"My god...the Red Claw Bandits were known to be savage and ruthless, but...is he a Hellkin dressed as a human?" one dwarf said.

The army bicker as they were worried that they unknowingly have a Hellkin in their village, but one laughter, a laughter that one being relished the screams, the pleas, and the bloody deaths.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!" Kain laughed psychotically at the massacre he committed where his monsters cried out in victory as they stand on the corpse of an ogre surrounded by what was once green and lush forest now stained red accompanied by the stench of death.

"K-Kain?" Hyoran spoke out and Kain and his monsters snapped their gaze to her and those behind her. His clothes that was white and brown, clean and pure. Now it is stained red and torn, tainted by death.

Kain's smile quickly faded and seemingly returned to normal. His psychotic expression became water vapor at the sight of Hyoran and replaced by the expression of surprise and then fear.

"Hyoran?" Kain said.

{Now.}

"Hyoran? Mr. Olken? Everyone?" I said as I looked at them, then the bloody scene around me, me holding a mace and my longsword.

"Kain...you did this?" Hyoran said, looking around and witnessing the aftermath.

*Squish!*

A squishing sound was heard. She looked down to see the brains of a dead bandit and the destroyed skull. She was startled by the close sight of the carnage and then the scent of death assaults her nose, causing a wave of nausea to overwhelm her.

"Ugh...bleegh! Ueegh!" Hyoran vomited as a result from the stench and visual, she had seen the deaths of bandits before as I was fighting Grundel which didn't seemingly faze her, but this level of violence exceeded that. The sight of her being overwhelmed forced me to move as I cared about her deeply.

"Hyoran!" I yelled and ran after her, I dropped my weapons in the process, but I don't care. I care for Hyoran.

As soon I began to get close, Olken jumped forward and put his shield forward and his war hammer behind him, protecting Hyoran.

I stopped in front of him, shocked on what is happening. Why is he blocking me? I came to her to help her.

"Mr. Olken, what's wrong?" I said.

"Don't 'Mr. Olken' me, Kain! Or should I say 'Hellkin'?" Olken yelled. I was taken aback not only because he showed anger, but he called me a Hellkin. Hellkins usually have deep red skins, sometimes blue or purple. But most of all, they have horns.

"H-Hellkin? What do you mean?" I said, raising my hands up to show I'm not threatening, but the way I look and the scenery does the opposite. "I meant to hold them back, but I ended up killing them."

"You command a Silver Gale Wolf, Black Shadow Wolf, Scythe Spider, Despair Owl, Middle Wind Elemental, and a Flare Fox at the same time. These two wolves like Silver Wind Wolf and Black Shade Wolf are rare in this forest, but you turned them into beasts that could wipe out this village and beyond!" Olken yelled with anger.

As soon Hyoran composed herself, she grabbed Olken's arm.

"Please don't Mr. Olken...Kain saved us." Hyoran said as she is panting.

"Stand behind me, lass. Kain was a facade to harvest our souls when we're vulnerable." Olken said. This shocked Hyoran greatly, she saw Kain as a human and saw Kain do human things.

"That's not true! I don't know what a 'Hellkin' is!" I protested.

"Lies! Every Hellkin will lie to make us believe it's true! I will not allow it on my watch!" Olken yelled. He kept his weapon raised and the others pointed their blades at me. Hyoran can no longer ignore this.

"No! Mr. Olken please stop! Kain is not a Hellkin! He doesn't have any horns!" Hyoran yelled. She went in front of me and spread her arms out to protect me. To protect me from being exiled, vouching for me...just like my siblings back then.

"Hyoran, get away from--"

"NO! Kain is a good person! Just like the monsters behind him!" Hyoran yelled, interrupting Olken's sentence.

"What about the time he was decimating the bandits?" one villager said.

"The screams of horror. It could happen to us too!"

"The time where he was torturing the ogre?"

"What about him laughing like a maniac?! We never know he'll go into a frenzy like that again!"

"Hyoran is defending the Hellkin. Oh no..."

"We must kill them...before it's too late."

After that last line, they point their weapons at me and Hyoran, dead set to kill. Why? I told Hyoran to let them know. I killed the bandits trying to raid our village!

And now they point their blades at us after we helped them!? Just because I was covered in blood and deemed as a Hellkin?! What kind of retardation is that!?

Then I noticed something...Olken's weapons are shaking. Not just them, but the rest as well. The looks of their faces became drained of color, anger mixed with fear, but why?

That was when I turned to see why. Gris, Noire, Schwarze, Paura, Fennec, and Viridesca raring for battle no matter who it is. Gris and Noire are growling menacingly with their eyes and aura glowing.

Schwarze and Paura also did not like that as they screeched at them.

Fennec's eyes shined fiery red and flames appeared around her.

Viridesca, though who doesn't have a face to show emotion simply illuminated its core and its wind intensified.

They're the reason why the villagers, even Olken are scared, despite him being a skilled adventurer.

"So, you were planning to kill all of us after all..." Olken said.

"What!? No!" Not good, I must deescalate before it gets worse!

"Guys, don't growl! Stand down! Don't attack!" I pleaded. The aggression they showed slowly faded. I know they'll do it protect me, but it's not gonna do any favors in the long run. Shit, when all of this is going down, I can't imagine Ezo and Tuya witnessing it as well.

"Seeing you can control them so easily, you can kill us just as easily, huh!?" one villager said.

"Please listen! Kain is a good person!" Hyoran yelled, but it all soon fell on deaf ears. The fear of a Hellkin is too strong, just by mentioning its race.

"Monster!"

"Fiend!"

The anger and fear mixed in the crowd spew insults at me, calling me a monster. I tried to convince them by words. Hell, I used actions that say 'Hey, we saved the village from bandits!' I saved them! Even though I hold no attachment to this world, but I wanted to do good.

"Please...believe him..." Hyoran begged as tears flowed. And yet it only fueled their anger more.

I had enough...I saved them, WE saved them and this is the result? Become reviled by the village and then Noltia and beyond?

No, I just gotten started. I ain't gonna be treated like this. And I AIN'T letting you treat Hyoran like this! This feeling...this burning feeling. Yeah, I'm fucking pissed!

I walked around Hyoran with my teeth gritted and my head slightly tilted downwards. My black hair draped over my eyes, hiding what's inside my eyes burning from within.

"Stay back! What you'll say and do will not--" Olken said, but I won't let him get the chance to finish.

"Shut your fucking mouth." I said.

[Unique skill Bloodlust activated.]

*Bwooosh!*

A wave of deep red energy exploded forth and loomed over the army. Their voices that was spewing insults were forcibly shoved back in their throats by an invisible force. Their anger before was quickly turned into fear.

I'm done listening to their bullshit.
