Chapter 4: Chapter 4

"Don't be so dramatic!" the princess said.

"Don't be so dramatic," I mocked, "That has got to be at least ten hours away!"

"See! You are being dramatic! It's only going to be 4 hours with the plan!"

"Four hours," I groaned.

"It's going to be more than four hours if you don't start walking," she said sassily.

"Fine!" I said. Then we went on our way. The walk felt like it was going on for more than 2 hours. Sometimes we stopped and I would study the path we were on while Anthea looked at the plants. She would say hi to the trees and ask before picking the flowers. Everytime she did something like that, I would feel a swift breeze of wind which was creepy. Finally my curiosity, once again, got the best of me. "Why do you do that?"

"Do what?"

"Talk to the plants?"

"Oh! Well sometimes, the plants and trees have spirits in them so it's important to be polite."

"How do you know if they have a spirit?"

"I don't," she said, "Even though I am part fae, I'm more in tune with fire so I can only sense when they feel something."

"How does that work?"

"It's difficult to explain. I can just feel emotions that aren't mine so I usually assume that its a plant or animal."

"Why do fae feel those things?" My eyebrows scrunched once again.

"Full fae are more in tuned with nature since they are technically a part of nature. It's deep in my blood to feel these things."

"Oh okay." The walk went back to it's comfortable quietness. Though the walk was quiet, my mind sure wasn't. After about half an hour, I asked, "Can you speak to them?"

"I can sometimes. Only if they want to."

"Can all fae talk to plants?"

"Only if they want to. Daddy said that some people can force druids to talk but it's never worth getting them angry."

"What happens when you get them angry?" She gave a look of pure thought.

"I don't really know. Concubine Laurice said that they hurt people but I don't believe that nor will I ever believe Concubine Laurice."

"How did you know what plant you are feeling?" She let out a groan and waved her bouquet of wildflowers.

"I don't know. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't," she said annoyed "Can we just drop it? It's like you're interrogating me!"

I stopped talking to digest all the new information and snicker. If only the princess knew what I used to do for a living. Finally after this long walk, I heard the sound of a town.

"Your Highness, why didn't we just go to the capital and get a carriage from there?" I questioned. It seems like the most logical choice. If we had just gone left and walked for a couple minutes then we would've gotten to the capital and reached the territory much sooner. I know this from my maps.

"Elaine, it's much harder to get a carriage in the capital plus people would have known who I am. I would have been stuck in a circle of conversation!"

"Oh, I see," I replied. We finally made it to the town. It was a pretty place. It obviously had a good economy just because of how the town looked. There was a marketplace and the townhouses looked cozy.

"Here. Take this." The princess was handing me a bag of coins. "I am going to look for someone with a carriage. Buy a couple things but don't go too far!" She was acting like a mother hen.

"Okay, I got it!" I said back. Steadying my breath, I tried to calm down. Sometimes it's easy to forget that I am an alien to this world. That I don't truly belong here. That I am only here to serve a purpose but moments like this where I am with a friend is enlightening. I am only a human with feelings after all.

I started to walk towards the bustling market. Cute kids running around and people yelling to go to their stalls. I continued to walk around until a scent stopped me. It was caramel! I walked over to the stall and there was a frail old woman.

"Hello darling. Would you like some candy?" the old woman asked.

"Yes please. How much is it?" I replied. She then gave a devilish grin.

"30 gold coins," the frail woman said stoically. How evil! Asking for 30 pieces of gold for a small amount of caramel?! This is robbery of a child! "If you can't afford it you can leave".

"Miss, I am so sorry. I can't seem to afford it." I tried to say pitifully "I don't even know who my parents are,"Not necessarily a lie. I don't personally know who my parents are in this world, and anyone can seem like they can't afford 30 pieces of gold.

"Young lady, I don't know what to do for you," she said. I pinched the underside of my biceps as hard as I could until I felt water in my eyes.

"My friend is sick and this is her favorite type of candy. Please miss! I only have 10 pieces of bronze," I said. After a couple more minutes of stuffing her face with a sob story the frail old woman relented.

"Just give me the bronze and I'll give you a bag," she sighed. We completed our transaction and when I turned around I saw the princess.

"You sneaky liar! I gave you more than enough to get something for 30 pieces of gold!" Anthea exclaimed

"Did you get a carriage?" I asked trying to change the topic.

"Yup! Just follow me but I am way more interested in how you did that." she said. We were walking side by side, but she was stretching her waist to look me in the eyes.

"Let's just get where we need to go," I sighed. Her eyebrows scrunched she started to pout.

"You are so boring! Fine! Lets just go," We went on our way to the carriage.

***

We had finally gotten there! It took us forever but we got there! The wolf territory was a bit more rugged than Delicae Terra, but it had more forest areas. It was obvious that Anthea felt more at home at this place with her bright eyes peaceful expression on the way here.

After we got out of the carriage, Anthea held her stick out towards me once again. I grabbed it and let her drag me anywhere she wanted. The people obviously knew her. They were greeting her left and right. Interesting. Anthea and I came to a stop when a ball of red came flying towards us. My first thought was fire my second was run! I pulled at the stick in Anthea's hand moving her towards the left. Just enough to evade whatever that thing was.

"Who do you think you are?" a raspy voice growled. It was not a thing. Abort mission! It is just a very angry girl! "I asked you a question." she growled again.

"Wow cuz. Just ignore me. Fine. It's not like I came all this way with a friend I made with your advice," Anthea interrupted. "It's not even just that! Now you wanna attack my friend! Don't look at me like that! I see it in your eyes!"

"See what in my eyes?" the brilliant redhead asked. Her fox like eyes tilted upwards with her smile.

"You know what I see!" the princess retorted.

"No, I really don't. You must be imagining things," the girl said sarcastically.

"Oh be quiet!" the princess said. My eyebrows raised. I have never heard the princess say such words! This was normal from where I came from, but not from here. "Oops! Where are my manners! This is my friend Elaine!" Anthea said gesturing towards me. The redhead then stared at me in the most intimidating manner. Her eyes were like a silver dagger, glinting coldly towards me. I felt a shiver crawl up my spine. Her eyes literally had no melanin! They were gray.

"Interesting. Hello bunny," she said mockingly. She looked at me like I was prey. I looked over to Anthea for any kind of help, but she shrugged her shoulders.
