Chapter 41: Blue and lavender, part 2

"Is that how you greet all of your friends, princess?" Nate asked, he was sitting on the bed, his arms stretched out behind him, holding him up, ignoring Snow's question.

"Princess? So it was you who bought the flowers, and who said we were friends? Now, I am not going to ask you again, how and why are you in my room" Snow countered.

Nate only smiled, before answering.

"No, it wasn't me who bought you the flowers, but now I know what to get you if it ever comes to that point, and the people who work here was so kind enough to let me in."

"Oh really, and I take it Noctis doesn't know that you're here."

''No, why would he?"

"It's still his palace, you know."

"Don't worry, I haven't forgotten." Nate said, smiling a crooked smile.

Snow rolled her eyes and held the towel around her more closely. She turned her back on him and opened her dresser's drawer while taking out something to wear.

Nate seemed to be silent for a moment, but it didn't last.

"Of course, I forgot that we're more than friends now, since you thought my shoulder was a nice pillow and fell asleep on it."

Snow didn't know at first what he was talking about, but then she remembered her last comment when she asked him who told him they were friends. She could hear the teasing in his voice, but that didn't stop the blush from creeping up her neck. She heard the bed creak and then footsteps that followed. She busied herself more, before pulling out a blue tank top and jeans. Then she saw out of the corner of her eyes a shadow next to her, when she looked up, Nate was standing there with on of his hands on the dresser, supporting himself.

"You aren't going to wear that to a hospital are you?" He asked, referring to Snow's choice of clothing.

Snow looked at him then at her clothes.

"What do you mean? What am I supposed to wear?"

"I don't know, girls are the ones with the sense of fashion, but shouldn't you go for something a little darker, like black, or something?"

Snow's eyes widened when she realised what he meant.

"My friend isn't dead!" Snow exclaimed.

"Yet."

"No! She isn't dead, and she won't be dead." Snow said, emphasizing the 'be'

Nate sighed before turning away from her.

"Fine, believe what you want, but we both heard her chances of survival last night." He said over his shoulder, before walking away to sit on the bed again.

"I'm going to get dressed." Snow said, walking off into the bathroom again, closing the door behind her.

If she knew Nate would be in her room, she wouldn't have went out with just a towel around her body in the first place.

"Fifteen percent is still a chance, it's better than nothing." Snow said from the bathroom.

"It is nothing!" Nate groaned inwardly.

"Don't say that." Please, Snow said that last part in her head, the subject felt a bit touchy for her, but she didn't want to cry now, especially in front of Nate. She also wanted to stay strong for her friends, she felt that she now carried that responsibility on her shoulders.

Snow came out of the bathroom, dressed fully this time.

"It's just facts, but I'll keep my mouth shut if you want." Nate looked at Snow, still looking amused.

He stood up and walked towards Snow, stopping in front of her. Snow looked into his dark, blue eyes, and for the first time she actually looked. It was dark a blue, almost like the deep ocean, but something in it, seemed off. There was mischievousness in his eyes, but also... hurt? Like he lost someone dear to him, and even though it looked like he healed on the outside, a person couldn't say the same for the inside.

Snow looked away, realising she has been staring at him for a long time. She didn't know where to look, so she instead looked at the floor.

Nate lifted her chin so that he could look her in the eye.

Snow knew the close proximity they were sharing, but she couldn't find the will to move. She didn't have feelings for him, but it was like he has put her under a spell.

Nate caressed her cheek in small, slow circles. Snow blushed at the touch, which made Nate chuckle.

"You're so cute when you blush."

Snow's eyes widened, then suddenly the door opened, her eyes snapped to who walked in, and Nate lowered his hand.

"Hey Snow, I heard..."

When Snow saw who it was, she went pale. Noctis walked in with Snow and Nate still so close to each other, and he made no sign to move away.

Noctis stopped in his tracks, his eyes widened before returning to his usual posture, but this time burning flames of anger was evident in his eyes.
