Chapter 2: Fighting the crusher

The Fortress of Knights. One of the three fortresses of the Knights of Despair. To be a member of the knights this is where you had to come and this is where you had to defeat the crusher.

Last time Leo had lost to the crusher, but this time he had more on his side.

Leo did not plan on using Barbiel as that would draw too much attention on himself. Instead, he would use Oath Keeper.

When Leo arrived at the gate the two guards standing there scanned him from head to toe. They knew why he had come here and they knew what the outcome would be. Leo would be losing the fight.

The guards had no right to stop a challenger as anyone could challenge the crusher. Even if it was someone from the slums or the son of a noble. There also was no limit on how many times a person can try. Long ago, there was a man called Gray, he had issued a challenge twenty-one times before winning the battle. That man went on to become one of the greatest generals the Knights of Despair had ever seen.

Leo ignored the guards and made his way forward. To the right side of the walls, there was a bell. To issue a challenge you had to ring the bell and so Leo did.

Soon all eyes were on him. From the porters to the training knights. But Leo's eyes were not on them. Instead, it was at the door in front of him.

That was the real entrance of the fortress and that was the crusher would come from.

The door opened and a man stepped. He wore a leather dress which was a luxury among knights. They could also be said to be the fruits of his labor for defeating all the challengers.

The man had a sharp face. Leo had to look up to keep up eye contact. A sword half the size of the crushed lay on his back.

The crushed eyes Leo. "You were the one who was here yesterday right?"

Leo did not respond. Instead, he took out his sword. He had summoned Oath Keeper in advance to avoid the attention that would be upon him, for summoning a sword from thin air.

The crusher lifted his head. "No words? I like it. Real men do not fight with words, they fight with swords."

He then took out his own sword. The crusher gripped the large sword tightly with one hand.

"Come. Show me what you have!"

Leo rushed. His eyes were in one place. The crushers head.

Time slowed down as Leo inched closer to the crusher. Years of training came rushing into Leo. He would not lose again!

The crusher slammed his sword as Leo was about to reach him, but Leo moved to the left. Then, Leo sent his sword flying towards the crushers stomach.

There was no rule saying you could not kill each other. Even if he killed the crusher on purpose or on accident nothing would happen.

But the crusher moved his sword to intercept Leo's. Not only did the crusher have more strength he had high-speed. All these were the reasons why Leo and many others have lost to this man over the years.

Leo's eyes still remained on the crusher. He still had not used Oath Keeper's power. Leo did not want to waste its powers. He wanted to use it as a surprise.

The crushed swung his sword. Leo faced it with his own. But the crusher did not stop. He swung the sword with all his strength. With each hit, Leo's knees fell closer and closer to the ground.

Leo used his feet to propel him backward. But the crusher followed. The crusher raised his sword high into the air. The eyes of the surrounding people said it all. The fight was going to end.

But Leo had other plans. Now was the time. He summoned Oath Keeper's power. Strength rushed into every part of Leo's body. His eyes became more focused. The weakness of his knees faded away. The grip on his sword tightened.

Leo charged.

This caught everyone, including the crusher by surprise. The sword stopped inches away from the body of the crusher. He could have killed the man, but he did not because if he did then, according to the rule he would have to take over the role. That meant he would forever be here. Leo did not want that. He wanted revenge.

All eyes were open as wide as the moon. The two years undefeated streak of the crusher had faded. Defeated by a man with long black hair and a pointy sword.

The crusher moved back. He lowered his sword. The man bowed towards Leo. The bow was not a prize for winning the battle. No, it was for sparing his life.

The crusher shook with laughter as he spoke. "Ha, guess you cannot stay undefeated forever. Welcome to the Knights my friend."

"What is your name?"

"Leomord."

The crusher moved his eyes toward the surrounding filled with people with eyes as wide as the moon. "This is Leomord, the new brother of the knights!"

Claps slowly rang out across the crowd.

He had done it. He was now a member of the knights.

"Follow me," Said the crusher.

They both walked towards the fortress as the doors closed behind them and with that Leo left his old life. He was no longer from the slums. No, he was a member of the Knights of Despair.
