Chapter 7: Zanpakutō Spirit

When he woke up again, he was lying on the ground but his bindings were gone and he could move freely. Everyone was gone except for the teacher and the black-haired girl. The two were doing some Zanjutsu training. When the teacher noticed that Takashi woke up, he walked over.

"Your friends told me to tell you that they're doing training with the Captain-Commander."

"Thanks. Teacher, can you teach how to 'see' using Reiatsu?"

"Sure. Just let me finish talking to the girl over there."

Yoichi moved over there and seemed to give the girl instructions, before he returned back to Takashi.

"So you want to 'see' using Reiatsu?"

Takashi nodded.

"Could you tell me why?"

"I sleep a lot and often fall asleep when I don't want to. I want to learn that so that I can still fight even when I'm asleep."

"Hmmm. This technique is called Reikaku. Reikaku is a technique that 'sees' by sensing other people's Reiatsu. Reikaku is not a technique that is widely used, as it is less effective than actually seeing. It can only see a vague outline or blur, so it is hard to see exact movements. There are benefits though. Reikaku will constantly allow you to see 360º around you. Start by closing your eyes and stretch out your hand."

Takashi stretched out his hand, and felt Yoichi grasp his hand. A stream of Reiatsu poured into him.

"Can you feel the Reiatsu I'm pouring into you?"

Takashi nodded.

"Good. Take some time to remember this feeling."

Takashi enveloped the foreign Reiatsu with his own, memorizing its structure and sensing its form.

"I've memorized it."

Yoichi withdrew his Reiatsu.

"Now that you've memorized my Reiatsu, try to find it."

Takashi released his Reiatsu and it covered the entire nearby area. Takashi focused all his senses. He could hear the girl panting while swinging her sword. He could feel his clothes brushing against his skin. He could taste the cool air on his lips. He could smell the faint scent of something burning, perhaps coming from the Captain-Commander. However, it seemed like Yoichi was gone. Takashi kept on trying to focus his senses even more.

This kept on going for an hour, during which the girl had left, and Takashi's muscles had grown sore from staying in the same position for so long, but he still could not find Yoichi. Takashi thought of a new idea. Instead of focusing all his senses, he would shut them down. He covered his ears and nose, closed his mouth, and tried to clear his mind. He felt his senses slowly disappear, until it was just him inside a void. Nothing happened for an unknown amount of time when suddenly, his eyes opened, and he saw a point of light. It was so bright that if he had been looking at this with his real eyes, he would've gone blind, but this was all within his mind. He reached out his hand to grab the light.

When he touched the light, all his senses returned to him and he found himself touching Yoichi's hand.

"Not bad."

Takashi smiled, before he collapsed.

The next day, Takashi was woken by Shunsui pouring cold water on his face. He sputtered while Shunsui laughed gleefully.

"Serves you right for hitting me yesterday. Anyway, I'm heading to school."

Shunsui quickly escaped to avoid Takashi's wrath. Takashi groaned, and wiped his face.

"He's not going to know what hit him tomorrow."

While vowing revenge, he quickly got ready.

"Are you ready?"

"Yeah Jūshirō, I'm coming."

They were walking to school, when Jūshirō suddenly asked a question.

"Why did you sleep so much yesterday?"

"How much did I even sleep?"

"When we returned, it was the afternoon, and you slept all the way till now."

"Yesterday, I was training with Teacher. He was teaching me Reikaku, basically seeing without the eyes. It really exhausted me."

"Good. Just make sure not to overwork yourself."

Takashi was once again reminded of how caring Jūshirō was.

"Understood."

They were the last ones to arrive at the courtyard.

"Now that everyone's here, follow me. The courtyard was only used yesterday because it was our first day. This is going to be our classroom from now on. Make sure to come here every morning."

Yoichi led them to an empty patch of land with one blackboard. He walked to the blackboard and picked up the chalk.

"Today, you'll be learning Kidō. We'll be learning Hadō #1 and Bakudō #1 today. I'll write the chants on the blackboard. Practice until you've got the hang of it. I don't care how you do it. Once you think you've mastered it, demonstrate it to me. You can leave class once I approve."

Yoichi scribbled several words on the blackboard, then pulled out his book and started reading.

A few hours later, three kids approached him. He looked up from his book, unsurprised that it was Takashi, Shunsui, and Jūshirō.

"Use Bakudō #1."

The three chanted, then released it on Yoichi. He shrugged it off and nodded.

"Use Hadō #1."

They demonstrated it and Yoichi was satisfied.

"You guys are free to go. The Captain-Commander wants you two." He pointed at Shunsui and Jūshirō.

"He says to go to the same place as yesterday."

Shunsui and Jūshirō left.

"Teacher, can you tell me more about Reikaku?"

"What do you want to know?"

Takashi had been thinking while he was practicing that morning.

'Since there's something like Reikaku, how does blindness work? Tosōn was blind, but why didn't he just use Reikaku?'

Now he could finally ask the question.

"Teacher, if there is Reikaku, then why would there be blindness?"

"That is a bit complicated. You know that all Souls are made of Reishi, right?"

"Yeah."

"If all souls are made out of Reishi, then why aren't all Souls the same? The answer is because the Reishi that our body is made up of is constantly vibrating. Each Soul's Reishi is vibrating a different way or speed, and that's what makes each Soul unique. What tells the Reishi how to vibrate is your spiritual code. For example, your sick friend's spiritual code has his disease written into it, which means to heal him, you'll need to change his spiritual code. It's the same for blindness. The blindness would be part of your spiritual code, so it would not be a physical problem that could be solved with Reikaku. It is extremely hard to change someone's spiritual code, so blind people would stay blind."

'This spiritual code thing sounds a lot like DNA. It sounds fascinating. I want to ask him more questions about Bleach, but I don't want him to get suspicious. I'll do some more Reikaku training instead.'

"Teacher, can you help me with Reikaku again?"

"Sure, but don't be too overconfident because of yesterday. I was focusing most of my Reiatsu into my hand and kept it extremely close to you, and it still took you over two hours to find it. Do you still remember my Reiatsu?"

Takashi shook his head, so Yoichi gave him some of his Reiatsu.

Takashi did a bit more training and then went back to his dorms to go to sleep.

He fell asleep, but he didn't feel like he was sleeping. He opened his eyes and found himself sitting on a couch in a living room, watching a massive plasma television. On the other hand of the couch was a teenager with messy blond hair and sleep, golden eyes. He was quite tall and lanky, and his eyes were half-closed making him seem like the lazy sort. One of his hands was holding the remote while the other hand was grabbing popcorn from a bucket. The TV was playing Bleach, episode 64 where the Bount arc started.

"Are you my Zanpakutō Spirit?"

"Yeah."

"What is your name?"

His Zanpakutō Spirit opened his mouth, and seemed to say something, but no sound came out.

'Looks like I'm not qualified to hear my Zanpakutō's name just yet.'

"How much do you know?"

"Everything you know."

"Why did you bring me into my inner world?"

"I didn't."

"Then how did I get in here?"

"The door never closed."

"Are you saying that my inner world was already open and you never blocked me?"

"Mmhmm."

"Why didn't you block me?"

"Don't care."

"How do I leave?"

"Don't know."

"Do you know any techniques, like Getsuga Tensō?"

"No."

Takashi ran out of questions to ask, so he watched Bleach.

'Wait a second, will there be Bount? What about the other filler arcs? And everything else? Only the manga and the light novels should be canon. However, what does canon even mean when I'm living in Bleach? Couldn't some non-canon happen, while some doesn't? This is so confusing. Should I interfere if the non-canon parts actually happen? Ichigo defeated Aizen and Yhwach so it should be fine. At least I need to stop the Zanpakutō Rebellion. If the Zanpakutō Rebellion happens, since my Zanpakutō Spirit has the same knowledge as I do, things could get really bad. Even though I don't want to interfere with the world too much so that Ichigo can defeat Aizen and Yhwach, if Kōga Kuchiki does appear, I'll kill him myself. How should I verify what will happen in the future? Since Shinigami Academy has only been open for three years, Renji graduated in the 2066th year, and he graduated 40 years before canon started, I should be around 2163 years before canon starts. I should check to see if there is the Tsunayashiro Clan, Kasumiōji Clan, and Kannogi Family. The Ryōdoji should still be around as this is before they get exiled. If these families do exist, then Can't Fear Your Own World, Kasumiōji Conspiracy, and Memories of Nobody should end up happening. I should also try to find Ran'Tao, but I'm not sure about when she becomes a Shinigami. How much should I interfere? Ok, I've decided. I should be strong enough to easily kill Kōga Kuchiki, and I'll try to stay out of the rest.'

With that last thought, Takashi disappeared from his inner world.

"Looks like he's not as dumb as I thought." Takashi's Zanpakutō Spirit muttered.
