Chapter 56: Old Man

Another few days had passed since Fang An and Xiao Chen continued on to the Capital. The sun was shining so hotly that Xiao Chen couldn't stop wiping the sweat off his forehead.

"Master, are we still far from the capital?" Xiao Chen asked with a heavy breath.

Without internal strength it's not easy to keep running in this kind of weather. Fang An could use internal energy to regulate his body temperature while Xiao Chen could only rely on the quality of his bones which had tolerance to both heat and cold.

"Shouldn't be too far, we'll soon run into a fork ahead and after that we'll only need to run for about two more days before we reach the Capital." Fang An replied with a gentle smile.

"Crossroads? Ah! I can see it…" Xiao Chen narrowed his eyes so he could see far ahead, "Erm… Master, it seems someone has fainted over there."

Hearing that Fang An invited Xiao Chen to quicken their steps, the two arrived at a crossroads a few moments later.

The two of them found an old man who looked 60 to 70 years old with long white hair and beard lying on the ground. Next to the old man's body was a straw hat and an object more than two meters long wrapped in a cloth that looked like a stick.

Fang An checked the old man's condition and found him still alive. When Fang An was intending to channel his internal strength into helping him, the old man slowly opened his eyes.

"Water…" The old man said softly, accompanied by the sound of his stomach growling.

Fang An and Xiao Chen looked at each other with an awkward smiles. Xiao Chen gave the old man a drink of water before taking the old man under a tree to rest. The old man became more energetic after drinking a bottle of water.

Xiao Chen took out their remaining provisions, without further ado or asking questions. The old man immediately devoured the food in front of him.

"Senior, slowly no one will take him away from you…" Fang An smiled faintly at Grandpa's attitude.

Xiao Chen scratched his head as he took out the few bottles of water he had, he didn't want the grandfather they had just rescued to die from choking on food.

After consuming all of Xiao Chen and Fang An's provisions, the old man only breathed a sigh of relief, "Thank you, you two actually saved me..."

"Eh! Where are my things?" The old man's expression turned a little pale, realizing he didn't bring anything with him.

"Oh, we only saw a straw hat and something like a cane over there..." Fang An pointed to where the old man was lying before, "Let my apprentice get it for you..."

The old man did not answer but got up from his seat and ran quickly to take the long bundle of things.

"Oh I thought I would lose you!" The old man kissed the long bundle.

Fang An and Xiao Chen's expressions changed, when the old man got up and took his things back, both of them could see from the way the old man moved that Grandpa was a warrior. The two of them believed that the old man's ability wasn't low either.

"Damn it!" The old man then realized that the packages containing valuables such as money and others were no longer visible. It seemed Fang An and Xiao Chen weren't the first to find him in an unconscious state.

Fang An and Xiao Chen could only watch as the old man cursed at the sky about the person who stole his things. The old man just stopped swearing when he realized he was being watched by two of his helpers.

"I'm sorry… Aih, where are my manners. My name is Liang Huo, may I know your two names?" The old man coughed softly before introducing himself.

"No need to be shy Senior, My name is Fang An and this is my disciple, Xiao Chen." Fang An also introduced himself.

"Junior pays respect." Xiao Chen showed his greeting.

Fang An then asked what happened to Liang Huo to end up in the situation where he was found. Liang Huo smiled awkwardly and simply replied he was too embarrassed to tell everything that happened so Fang An didn't ask any further questions.

"I want to repay the kindness of both of you, unfortunately all of my other items have been stolen by someone else. I can't give up my remaining treasures either…" Liang Huo looked as he stroked the long bundle in his hand.

"Seniors don't have to think about it. We help not to expect anything." Fang An shook his head slowly.

Realizing that Liang Huo had lost all of his travel money, Fang An gave him some gold pieces which was enough to cover some traveling expenses.

"I can't just accept all of this…" Liang Huo shook his head then looked at Xiao Chen, "You two seem like warriors, it's a shame that the weapons you and I practice are different but there are one or two moves that might be of use to you."

Liang Huo had sharp eyes, with one glance he could see that Xiao Chen had good bone quality even though he didn't have any profound strength yet.

"Senior, thank you for your good intentions but my disciple and I have our own sect's heritage to study. Studying external arts like this…" Fang An realized that Liang Huo's ability seemed to be high but it was not good to learn martial arts haphazardly especially from someone he just met.

Fang An only reasoned that the two of them were in a rush to the Capital and couldn't be with Liang Huo for long, learning martial arts certainly couldn't be done in one or two nights.

"Incidentally, I'm also on my way to the Capital, if you don't want to learn knowledge from me, of course I won't force it. Maybe if we travel together, there will come a chance for me to repay you guys." Liang Huo persuaded.

Fang An thought for a moment, he had no reason to refuse. After all, if indeed the three of them headed for the Capital then they would indeed walk side by side.

"Alright Senior, if you can move freely let's continue our journey. If we walk fast enough, we can find an inn to rest and replenish supplies." Fang An explained.

The food and drink that Fang An and Xiao Chen had supplied had been used up by Liang Huo so they had to stop by to buy more supplies.

Liang Huo coughed lightly before nodding in agreement, the three of them then continued on their way together. As Fang An and Xiao Chen had expected, Liang Huo indeed had high martial arts skills, lightening his body was extremely skilled and could easily keep up with Fang An and Xiao Chen's speed as they moved at their top speed.

At top speed, the three of them moved towards the Han Imperial Capital.
