Chapter 8: many things in a short time
After Sofi shook up my world a bit and we resumed our trip, we didn't speak to each other again, on her part it was because there was simply nothing else to talk about, on mine it was because I was still a bit in shock. The questions didn't stop but I knew it wasn't the time to ask them so I decided to keep quiet and follow her.
After a couple of minutes of walking we managed to reach what seemed to be our destination. It was a pretty simple store, it had a counter with what seemed to be minerals in the front to prevent people from entering and behind it was a door that surely led to the depot.
-We finally arrived, this is an old friend's store and yes, I know it doesn't seem like much but it is one of the best stores in its field... well to tell you the truth it's not like it has a lot of competition, but I assure you that everything it has is of quality... almost always- After this Sofi pulled a rope that was next to the store causing a bell to ring in the back.
After a few seconds the door opend revealing a burly man, he had black hair and his beard was quite long, his hands were covered in scales up to the elbow and he possessed a pair of horns.
-Ah Miss Sofía, good morning, I suppose you come to buy new minerals, right?- The man said with a cheerful tone, as if he were the first client he has had in a long time -But what is this? Are you accompanied today?
-Good morning Oryk, you're not mistaken, today I'm going to bring some barium- That impressed me a bit. The minerals from my old world were also in this one? Is it possible that this world has a similar molecular structure? More questions were added -And as for my companion, why don't you introduce yourself?-
-Nice to meet you sir, I am Miss Sofi's new servant my name is Argent, I hope we get along well- Sofi was a bit annoyed that I called myself her "new servant" and she made me notice by giving me a menacing look.
-The pleasure is mine little one, but please leave the formalities aside, I'm nobody important, just call me Oryk-
-Okay- Being satisfied with the answer, Oryk returned to the back of the store, coming out after a few seconds with a cloth bag and told Sofi how much it would cost. She gladly paid it and after saying goodbye we started our way back.
-Aaand, what do you plan to do with that mineral if I can know?- I decided to ask him as we walked because curiosity was killing me.
She looked at me and smiled -You'll have to wait and see, and if it turns out well I'm sure you'll be impressed- That again, I hated the fact that people had the answer to my question but just didn't tell me. because, "I would know in time" was infuriating.
When we got to the mansion, Sofi left the ore on one of the stone paths in the courtyard and went inside to get something while I waited for her outside. After a few minutes she came out with a notebook, a pen and a small inkwell that she left a few meters from the mineral. She stood next to the objects she had brought and told me to go to her side.
-Okay, are you ready? Now you're going to see something incredible… I hope- She raised one of her arms and closed her eyes. She suddenly opened them and out of nowhere a small whirlwind of fire arose where the rock was and just a few seconds later it was dyed green.
Seeing this Sofi grabbed her notebook and began to write down, at that moment the fire vanished -Mmm so with the barium the fire is dyed green, just like copper, why is this? Do these two have something in common?
While she wrote in her notebook I was impressed by what I had seen -How…how did you do that?-
-To tell the truth, I don't know, for some reason some minerals affect the coloration of the fire, but only some-
-No, not that, the fire. You created it, right?-
-Yeah it's a simple fire spell... Wait, are you telling me that you find that more interesting than the color change?- I nodded my head -Thats a little disappointing, I was hoping I could impress you with something that hadn't been seen before.
She got a little depressed because of that, I guess because of the fact that for her that was something completely common. The truth is that I hadn't noticed, mostly due to the fact that there was something more important in my head, a question that I wanted to ask her.
-Sofi, could I learn to do that?-
-Of course, the problem would be finding someone to teach you-
-And you couldn't teach me?-
-I? No, I couldn't, I'm sure I wouldn't be a very good teacher, there are things I still haven't learned and others I haven't mastered yet, I'm also somewhat clueless and a little forgetful- She sighed -The best thing would be to find someone else, although I don't think many want to teach magic to a wyvern-
That last thing made me see something I suspected, there was a kind of mistreatment towards the wyverns, it didn't take me long to figure out the reason for this. But that was not what caught my attention the most, if not the fact that despite seeing herself as such a confident person, she had many insecurities related to her abilities.
-I don't agree with that, until recently I didn't know what a weapon was, but thanks that you explained to me what they were, I was able to understand it and you can't deny that you enjoyed teaching me, also, anything you don't know yet we can learn together and if there is something that you do not master then we will perfect it together-
-Thank you Argent, I'm glad you think so- her mood had improved -Well! If you're satisfied with someone like me then I'll gladly be your teacher!-
-Sofi, I assure you that I will give my best effort-
-I'm sure yes, but one more thing, we have to keep it hidden from my father, he wouldn't like it very much if he found out that I'm teaching magic to a wyvern, I don't know what it would be about. That's why we should take advantage of when his not at home or use my days off and go to the outskirts of the city. It seems that I won't be bored again-
