Chapter 2: Hybrids and Trihybrids

Dear Imena,

I explained where people like you come from and where they live, but I am not like you. I'm a very rare type of hybrid called a trihybrid, meaning I am a mix of three of the four Original Beings. A trihybrid is only born once every one million years. Rather than being admired like a rare metal, trihybrids are feared by other hybrids, and for many reasons.

For starters, not many hybrids have the chance to ever meet a trihybrid, so they don't know what to expect. Also, they're considered unnatural by hybrids...ironic isn't it? But in their defense, when hybrids have children, their children are typically hybrids as well. So a trihybrid born to hybrid parents is definitely strange. Then, as I briefly mentioned before, hybrids have magical powers. This is because they're a mix of two beings so they possess the qualities of those beings and, especially with human hybrids, makes them stronger than their pure blooded counterparts. This same logic can be applied to trihybrids, except they possess the qualities of three beings rather than two. This makes them stronger than hybrids, and hybrids find that understandably terrifying. There are several stories from previous times of trihybrids being run out of the Vail and treated awfully by their parents and other hybrids.

But my existence is even more strange than the other trihybrids that have come before me, because a prophet predicted my existence.

Before King Gilan passed, a prophet named Isaiah appeared to him. The well known and credible prophet had had many visions in the past that all played out exactly the way he said they would. When this prophet spoke, people listened, and King Gilan was no exception.Isaiah spoke to Gilan of a vision he had of "two babies that will be born in the same year to different families, one male and one female, opposite in every way. Hybrids of three, they will be the two most powerful beings to have ever lived. One will choose evil, the other will choose good. Good will overcome evil, and rid the realms of the force."

When prompted, Isaiah said he didn't see which child would chose good or bad, which worried the poor king. But Isaiah told him not to worry. He strongly believed in his heart that his vision would come true, as they always have, and good will prevail. When King Gilan expressed his worries about how powerful the trihybrids would be and what that could mean for the Vail and the other relams, Isaiah simply replied,

"I believe in the child who will choose good, and I may be the only one, but let me ask you this. How can you expect a child to save you and others when you don't believe they can?" With that, he left, and passed not long after that.

According to people close to the king, Gilan thought about it everyday for the rest of his life. On his death bed he told his nurse,

"I believe in the child that will choose good." then he was gone.

Centuries before I was born, I already had two supporters, and I'm grateful for that. Even though I wasn't around to hear them say it, reading it was still meaningful since everyone else was terrified of me before I even arrived.

Until next time,
