Chapter 53: A Strong Will Part 2: Chapter 52

The first priority that came to mind when I started this challenge was to find the highest peak. Looking at the many variations of slim mountains, I could never tell which one was the highest because of how most of the mountains were already going way past the clouds.

"Hmm, this is going to be hard." I said to myself as I look to the sky.

I continued on my path with the rock that was filled with my sin and suffering. Looking at this concept of a challenge, it seemed weird that Gord applied my suffering as a form of a rock. It didn't make sense other than the fact that he used the earth element and the rock was maybe a representation to his element.

While kicking the rock through the lands, I came across a river that was as wide as a four-way highway. Its current was strong so crossing it was going to be impossible with the rock being carried by my foot so I had to think of some way to carry it across aside from kicking it.

"There has to be some way for me to carry this without having to touch my body." I tried to think of some way to carry this rock but looking at my attire, I thought that maybe if I made a satchel out of my shirt, I could carry it but the ball was to big to be fully enveloped by my shirt.

While I looked around the river for something to use as a bag, I saw a particular animal that was standing across the other side of the river.

It resembled that of a gorilla that was as tall as a 10 meter building . It walked on four feet and had a tusk that was so sharp that it had signs of blood that were seemingly from a fight. It's gray fur and muscular body had this particular aura around it that instantly tells me that it could break my back just from a simple wave.

This particular animal was surely an S-rank monster. I didn't think that I had any chance of winning against it if I fought it but looking at its calm personality I don't think that it was willing to fight me as well. It was just there on the river, bending down and drinking from it.

As it drank water from the river, I couldn't particularly do anything except look at the nature of its figure. Only once have I seen a monster like this before and that was from a famous movie back in my past-life. seeing its simple movements felt so calming, it was like watching a National geographic TV show but without the narration.

Looking at this giant tusked gorilla, I could only wonder what it did to live a life that it made itself be such a magnanimous creature. It could have fought many battles that were life-thrilling as how the animal kingdom represented itself. It's life was probably a theme of survival to the fittest. It made me wonder that if such an animal was always fighting, why was it not excluding any bloodlust just from its presence.

As I observed this beast, something was swimming under the river. I didn't notice another beast's presence until it suddenly jumps from the river and opened its jaw right at the Gorilla's face, aiming at the most fatal part of its body.

But as the beast jumped to attack, the gorilla with its cold and intense gaze just went and grabbed its jaw while it was in midair and simply tore the beast apart like it was nothing more than a piece of paper.

The gorilla didn't exclude any fear at all, as if it knew that it was the strongest. After killing the beast, the gorilla just left the river and made its way back into the mountains. It left the corpse all for any starving carnivore to eat it.

Looking at the corpse of the underwater beast, I saw that it resembled that of a crocodile. But with it's jaw ripped apart, I could hardly tell if it was fully a giant crocodile and not a mixture of any other wild animal.

Looking at this dominating display of power, I kind of understand why the gorilla acted so all-mighty and stoic. It knew that he himself was a powerful being. That he didn't care nor fear anything that was below it. He understood fear, like how that jaw was coming his way but he overcomes it with the only sense of strength he had. He was a monster that had already overcame its fears.

I wonder if I could ever be like that.

To know that although danger was coming my way, I was strong enough to know that I shouldn't run from it entirely.

I looked down below the rock that was filled with my sin and thought that maybe I should over come this, but now wasn't a good time. I only had five days to complete this challenge, so I had a lot of work to do before I could face this rock.

"Hmm, Since I can't carry this rock across the river, I should probably just kick it across then." I said this since I just thought of the idea back when the crocodile jumped to the gorilla. It made me thought that maybe just tossing this rock over would be the viable solution.

So I readied myself and kicked the rock hard enough that it could pass over the raging river.

*Kick!* *~Swooshhh~~* *Thud*

Luckily enough, the rock just made it across the river and only rolled a few meters away after landing on the ground.

'It didn't split in half so that was a good thing.' I thought to myself as I sighed in relief over the outcome of my reckless action

All that's left for me to do was cross the river as well. I simply jumped over the river as far as I could and landed safely on the other side.

"..." I stop to look at the dead body that was beside me and made me realize of a simple idea.

I pulled apart an intestine from its body and tried to think of something about it to make it a makeshift bag.

Seeing that it was a giant animal, I presumed that it probably had a intestine that was able to fit in the rock perfectly.

Luckily, I was right. I pulled out a big enough gut and tried cleaning it on the river. Since the intestine I pulled had two holes on either end, I tied the other end of the intestine and made a sack fit for a rock.

Seeing this being done, I then proceed to try to put in the rock into the makeshift bag.

After a few minutes of struggling to put it in, I finally inserted the rock into the bag. After doing so, I went and tied the sack and completely closed the rock from touching my body. This way, it was now pretty much easier to travel this world.

"Haaa~~I guess that's pretty much how thing are now." I said this as I started traversing the mountains with much more ease.

"Okay, next thing on the list is to find the highest peak." I said this knowing that I was completely clueless of where that mountain was.

"If Gord is expecting me to meet him at the highest mountain, that would probably mean that that particular mountain should be something that's thicker or maybe bigger than the rest of the other mountains."

As such, I decided to climb any particular tall mountain and tried to see if there was any mountains that stood out from the rest.

The nearest one near me was none other than a mountain that didn't went pass the clouds but was tall enough that it could contend with the Eiffel tower's height.

"That should be tall enough."

I went and rushed my way to the mountain's feet. As I arrived, I saw that this particular mountain was pretty distinctive from the rest of the other mountains. Where unlike the other's where they were just as similarly rocky and simple, this particular mountain was like a giant tree that was rotting. It didn't have leaves at the top nor was it showing any form of vegetation, but its very form however was like that of a giant tree.

I already decided that I would climb this mountain first, so as such I went and started doing so.

As I touched it sides, I couldn't really tell if it was possible to climb this without falling since the sides of it was so lean, that it seemed impossible to climb this without equipment.

"I need something like an Ice-pick at least to have as a safety measure when climbing it or maybe even a freaking dagger should work, but I don't have any of those on me…unless." after seeing the condition of my situation, I started walking back to the corpse of the crocodile and pulled out the most valuable part I needed at the moment.

*Thwack!* *Splat!*

I pulled out it's longest tooth and fangs and made my way back to the mountain.

"This should be right" I said to myself while I started my first climb on the mountain.

The moment I stab the mountain with the crocodile's tooth, I knew that this was pretty much the most epic thing I could ever do if I was back in my past life. I could be pretty much be Bear Grills.

It was a slowly process but after two hours of continuous climbing, I was already halfway to the top.

*Thud!* *Thud!*

*Thud!* *Thud!*

*Thud!* *Thud!*

*Thud!* *Thud!*

*Thud!* *Thud!*

*Thud!* *Thud!*

*Thud!* *Thud!*

*Thud!* *Thud!*

"Fuck….hhaaa~ I'm really tired."

After an hour of climbing the mountain, I was almost at the top.

As I made my way to the top, I would always try to stop for a minute or two to look at the surroundings. This way, if I did see the highest mountain then I wouldn't have to climb all the way to the top. Sadly, not even after climbing half-way through that I didn't saw one mountain that was pretty tall.

*Thud!*

"One!"

*Thud!*

"More!"

*Thud!*

"Thrud!"

Finally I reached the top.

"Haaa….haaaaa....hhaaaaaa~~" I was tired to a point that my arms felt like noodles and my back was in major need of resting down the floor.

So as I fully climbed the top, my body instantly felt like falling over. And it did.

*Thud.*

"Ahhhhh…" I laid on the ground with such a tired body that I could only anguish in pain.

Without any time to lose though, I went and tried to look around while my body was lazily laying on the floor. Mostly my head turning and my eyes looking was the only body part functioning right about now, as such I was only able to look to two directions. Northeast and Southwest.

"Hmm, nope, not at that direction." I said as I didn't see anything particular in the Northeast direction.

"Dammit. Not even in there...where is it?" there was also nothing in the southwest.

"Maybe I should rest for a couple of minutes…I'm too tired." I decided to rest for a minute since it was pointless to do anything while my body couldn't move.

While I did rest my body, I thought to myself of the many possibilities of where that highest peak was.

"Five days…five days isn't enough for me to complete this if I don't know where it is…so where?"

The idea that this challenge only had a limit of five days to complete meant that the peak itself was just around the corner. But not once had I seen anything that could guide me to that place…

"It's almost been half a day… I did so little."

"What should I do?"

As I laid in the floor restless but tired and confused, a sullen fall of a gray patterned feather suddenly drops down to the tip of my nose.

"...What?"

And a giant silent sweep suddenly takes me away from the top of the mountain and was carried through the strong pressures of the wind.

It's giant claw that was razor sharp and its yellow scaled feet that reminded me of a a chicken that I once chased around just so I could kill it for dinner. This show of features was none other than a giant bird.

My reaction to this development was slow because of how tired and woozy my whole body was. But nonetheless, I was worried for how I was going to escape this.

The way it swooped down to my direction without a tinge of sound.

The way it looked to my direction with it's head being easily turn up to the side of down.

With the way its yellow and black eyes look to me with no clear intention

And its golden feathers and how it shines at the ray of the sun.

It was by no doubt that this bird was none other than an owl.

"I got careless." I said this to myself seeing as how easily I was captured without even a fight.

It came out of nowhere with such a silent sweep…

As it carried me through the mountains, I couldn't help but hope to see that a chance may come to me where I could escape. I couldn't do anything because of how high up we were. If I did anything reckless, I would surely fall to my death.

So I waited even more while I tried gaining as much strength as I could.

Suddenly, the owl started changing directions.

It suddenly changed course and flew past the clouds.

"!?" it showed me something that I needed to know of.

It showed me the highest peak.

Beyond the clouds was a mountain that was supported by small columns of mountains that were underneath its level.

As all those slim but rigid mountains all came to stand just to support the standing of the highest peak.

As the highest peak itself was like an old tree with no leaves nor branches…just a sturdy tall mountain that stood over all the small mountains.

"...I can't believe it." I could have never have guessed that the highest mountain was literally beyond the other mountains.

With how the clouds cover the very sky, I could have never thought that this was the location.

As I admired the highest peak, the silent owl suddenly hoots its voice through the many small mountains that were past the clouds.

"HooT."

As it did, it's course suddenly changes and it drops me down all of a sudden.

"Ahhhhh!!!" I screamed over my falling and thought that I might die over this.

But seeing the location of the highest peak gave me the realization of my chances of completing this challenge.

The course of where I was falling seemed to be at the top of a mountain that had a certain nest on it.

I crashed down to the floor with the Giant owl on my way.

As the Giant owl landed, it looks to the place where I landed and hoped that with it's sharp beak, it would immediately swallow me down to feed it to it's babies.

But as it turned to find where I was, it couldn't find a single trace of my being. Its silently glare grew ever so maddening and it's feather's started to fuzz.

The owl stretched its neck all to the height that was twice its size and turned it's gaze to the surrounding nest. Sadly, it couldn't find me even with it's perfect sight.

The question to where I was could easily be answered.

I was falling.

Not intentionally but accidentally.

As I was dropped to it's nest, I hoped to land perfectly and maybe hide but my luck factor was as trash as the day I came to this world.

Just as I landed, I didn't expect that the makeshift bag that I carried was the first to hit the ground. At that moment of impact the force of the rock struck my back so hard that I squirmed in over the pain of the rock hitting my back. The pain was so bad that I intentionally rolled to the side of the mountain.

And now I was seen falling down.

While I did fall in pain, I went and decided to live. So I grabbed the tooth of the crocodile from my pocket and did my best to survive. As I fall, I was near to the sides of the mountain. The only chance I could ever create in this fast moment was to use the teeth as a hook to the side of the mountain. Hoping that I could latch on the mountain using the teeth of the crocodile.

So I did.

'Haa!' as I did, I was lucky enough to catch the side of the mountain but after that was a whole other trouble I needed to over come. My fall was too fast and I don't think I was smart enough to understand the physics of falling.

As quick as it should, I slid down the cliff of the mountain and tried my best to hold my grip over the tooth but to my expectations, the sharp edge of the tooth and the gravity of my fall resulted in my fingers being cut and I loss the grip and I continued to fall.

"Shit."

I fell and fell and fell all until I fell to a cliff that happily received my body.

*Boom!*

The impact of my fall surely made it true that my bones were broken.

I laid in the ground of the cliff all tattered and almost at death's door.

'Ah….I can't fell anything…my body…I can't move it…' I thought of this situation with such disdain that I couldn't complain if I died here at this moment.

To make matters worse, the rock that was filled with my sins and suffering was for unknown reasons, on the center of my chest…

Slowly but surely, I felt pain.

Slowly, I remembered my past regrets.

Surely, I felt the urge to kill myself.

I was at the end of my life.

I cried.
