Chapter 38: The Retaking of the Exam Part 1: Chapter 37

As slowly as the sun would rise and as bright as it should be for every light it spreads, one boy remained awake. He lay awake in his bed knowing that today was the day.

As the clock strikes 6, the boy quickly gets up from his bed and straight into his shower. He didn't waste time for anything. He showered, he dried, he clothed himself, he ate and prepared every necessary item needed for the day.

One item in particular was a Golden Pin. This particular pin was the one thing that gave him the reason for his excitement. A symbol of his recommendation in his abilities and a chance for him to show his growth.

Another item was a black flip phone. This particular phone was a gift given to him by his benefactor. It contained a lot of important contacts that reached out to many professions and for him to receive such an item only shows the importance he had for the benefactor.

Not a minute later after his whole preparation, a message came along. It came from his benefactor, Ranzy Volde Savez.

[We're almost at your place. Make sure you brought everything you need for the exam.]

The boy replied a simple message back to his benefactor.

:Okay.

Looking back at his whole room he tried to remember if there was anything he forgot to bring but seeing that nothing came to mind, he went and closed the apartment. As he placed the key under the same place he would always put it in, he made his way down his apartment and unto the gate.

As soon as he stepped at the gate, he was met with a black car and a butler that stood outside waiting for him.

"Good morning Henry." he said as he greeted the butler in a respecting manner.

"Good morning Mr. Hamil" said the butler in response to his greeting while he opened the door for him.

Although there was a bit of bad blood between the two, Hamil tried to just forget about that said time and tried to make amends with the Butler since these two will see each other a lot in the upcoming times.

"Thank you." said the boy as he got in the car. The moment he sat down, he was caught speechless when he meet with a beautiful lady who wore a beautiful blue dress. It was a Victorian styled dress filled with frills and flower like designs that complemented her glowing orange hair. The skirt she wore only reached up to her knees, the frilly sleeves would reached up to her pale but brilliant wrist and the corset which fitted perfectly over her slim body made her look as fit and beautiful as ever.

Seeing this, the boy couldn't do nothing but blush over her beauty.

"...G-Good morning Ranzy." said the boy as he felt nervous over their interaction.

"Good morning to you too, Hamil" she said as she smiles at his greeting.

As they made their way to the academy, Ranzy had a few questions for Hamil in hopes to pass the time of their travel.

"It's been a few days since we last met, how's the phone I gave you?"

"Hmm, I-it's alright." said Hamil shyly as he felt a bit unease over a beauty that was sitting beside him.

"You might be wondering why this was a flip-phone and not a smartphone like everybody else."

"..Y-yeah, that question did come to mind."

"Well, the reason is because that phone is more special than you might think. It capable of withstanding a line of bullets coming its way and could even withstand a slash attack from an F-ranked hunter. Its waterproof, fireproof, and has the capacity to last almost a month without charging. It has a storage space of about 15 terabytes, a RAM of 64GB and could have access to communication in almost every inch of the world."

"...Ah." Hamil reached out for the phone that was placed in his pocket and stared at the very features it hold within. The phone showed a cherry black-like color theme and had a cherry red outline on its edges. The very logo it showed on the back was a Cherry also.

"You don't have to be so surprised, almost every noble out there has this type of quality phone on their pockets."

"Are you sure I should have this kind of phone on me?"

"like what the contract said, I will provide you with everything you need for you to support me in the academy. Oh and speaking of everything you need, here." she reached out for her pocket and raised her arm to my direction.

In response to this gesture, he also reached out his hand and tried to receive something from her.

She slowly opened her hand and let go of something that was between those fingers of hers.

"!?" he was shocked to see that on my palm was a piece of a silver ring that had a curious looking symbol written on it.

"Here, it's a Storage Ring."

"..." at this point in their conversation…Hamil wasn't surprised but he was still a bit speechless of her kind offer.

"There's nothing in there yet but as I am starting my life as a student of the Royal Academy and so are you…lets try our best to fill this ring together with our experiences."

"..." Seeing her say those words, Hamil felt gratitude over her kind consideration.

What Ranzy wanted from Hamil the most wasn't just a partner for her to get through school with but a friend she could rely on, one she could laugh with, work with and probably create a bond that would flourish into the highest form of trust. Something beyond friendship.

She didn't know how to start it though, so the only thing she could ever do to see a development over their relationship was to relish him with gifts first. That and the fact that she believe that Hamil was special.

As time passes by, they were finally able to reach the gates of the Royal Academy.

As the car stops at the gate, they were approached by a guard that carried two swords on their hips. Both swords seemed identical and the guard himself to look intimidating. His hair was combed back and was applied with a slick gill to look sharp, He had a chevron for a mustache, a black and blue uniform palette and a golden pin pinned to his left chest.

Under the pin was a name tag that wrote his title and name.

[Academy Guard] - A. Davidson

Seeing that tag, Hamil figured that he was probably the security guard that managed the entrance for the Academy. And aside from him there were also four more guards that carried a variety of weapons on their sides at all time.

"Good morning, can I ask why you came to visit the academy today? School should have start a week from now so I hope you have a reason."

"We have someone with us who is about to retake the Practical exam."

"Ah yes, I heard. Can you show me the pin?"

"Certainly."

As Henry complied, Hamil went and reached something from his pocket. As he brought it out, he showed it to the guard and also tried to say his name for assurance.

"Here, its to Hamil Crux."

"Hmm, I see." as the guard took a long glimpse at the pin, he went and proceeded to open the gate for them.

Passing through the gate, they were meet with a beautiful landscape that was filled with beautiful gardens, park benches, even a pond that stretched out at the corners of the academy. After driving a bit more, they were finally able to reach the very standing of the front of the academy.

Seeing it face to face, Hamil couldn't help but stare at the beautiful architecture the academy had to offer in his eyes. It was like a castle built on top of another castle, the very structure itself was enormous compared to other academies. From watch towers to extravagant and detailed designs on the castle, the academy was like a fairy tale to the boy.

At its front was a ginormous fountain that continuously splurged water and beyond that was a row of guards that stood in front of the entrance towards the interior of the school. It was no exaggeration that the security in this academy was no joke.

Feeling nervous, the boy slowly got out of the car and tried to wait for Ranzy so that she could try to take the lead in their walk through the academy.

As he got out, he saw that as Ranzy followed him next in exiting the car, she raised her hand in a gesture for him to receive it. This noble gesture was a cue to him that he needed to gracefully help the lady get out of the car in respect to her noble rank.

And so he did. He carefully reached out for her hand in a calming manner and slowly pulled her out of the car in a graceful show.

"Thank you Hamil." said Ranzy.

"..*Nod*" Hamil in turn just nodded for her thanks.

When the two of them got out, Ranzy told Henry that he didn't need to follow them since it was safe to do so and in response to this, the butler agreed and went on to park the car in some parking space.

As the car drove off, they were greeted by a man that wore a uniform that was specifically for the teachers of the academy and on top of that was a purple robe that had the symbol of the academy imprinted on it.

"Are you here for the retaking of the Practical exam?" asked the man as he looked straight at the Hamil.

"I am." said Hamil.

"Well then, follow me." the man then complied and lead them inside the academy.

As they walked through the hall, the man tried to use the time to talk to the two kids in hopes for a friendly conversation.

"If your wondering who I am, I'm one of the many professors who manage the school. I work under the Alchemy Division. Call me Professor Hosea."

"Thank you for guiding us today Professor Hosea." said Ranzy.

"Its my pleasure, you must be excited to get this second chance Mr. Hamil."

"I am, I was really happy when I received that letter the academy sent me." said Hamil as he looks at the professor.

"Hmm, well receiving the letter is one thing but to actually pass it is another whole different thing to worry about. Its not just you that got the chance for this, five more kids will get their chance in passing the academy exam."

"So I'm not the only one?"

"No, there's two kids from high ranking royal families and three from rich families of common background."

"Oh…" hearing this, Hamil was feeling a bit nervous over meeting a few more powerful looking families.

"Don't look so down. We gave you a chance because of how impressive your results were in the written exams, your name was even listed in the top 20 of the highest scorers." said the professor as he tried to assure the confidence of Hamil.

"I-I'm in the top 20!?" Hamil was confused to hear what the man just said. From simply hearing that he was a part of the top 20 students who were the brightest…it was a shocking thing to hear.

"You didn't know?"

"Ah! I guess I didn't heard of it…"

"Well, although we treasure brilliant minds, we couldn't really accept the results of your last performance. It was to…how do I say this without sounding mean…it was lacking."

"I guess I was…"

"...You must be his benefactor. Misses Ranzy Volde Savez." said the professor as he looks to Ranzy in a respecting manner while trying to divert the tense atmosphere that came upon.

"I am." said Ranzy as she nodded her head while doing so.

"I'm quite surprised to see that Mr. Hamil was able to find such a great benefactor. Can I ask how he was able to acquire your attention?"

"Hmm, well the first time we ever meet was in a gate."

"A gate?"

"Yes. He saved me when I was cornered by four robin wolves."

"..."

"After that, I was impressed by his actions and went to ask for his compliance."

"Four Robin wolves…I see."

"Is something the matter?"

"N-no, I'm just intrigued by what he'll show us in the practical examination."

"So am I."

"Are you confident that he'll pass the exam?"

"Hmm, I'm confident he'll dominate this exam." as Ranzy said this while filled with confidence over her claim, Hamil couldn't do anything at that moment but shy over her boasting of his future victory.

"My, what a confident say."

As they walked through the empty halls, they soon found themselves into a special room that seemed to show four other kids that stood all over the place.

"This is the waiting area Mr. Hamil, please wait here with the other participants until your name is called. And for you Miss Ranzy, please follow me into the royal lounge where you can watch exam take place."

"Thank your, Prof. Hosea." as Ranzy said this, she turns to follow him into another room but as they walked, she turned back to Hamil and smiled at his ever so nervous look.

"Do your best." she said while looking ever so beautiful at Hamil's direction.

"...!!" Hamil in turn couldn't do nothing but blush over her encouragement.

As they exited the waiting room, Hamil couldn't help but look towards the other participants.

'...so these are the participants.' he thought while looking all over the place.

He could see two kids that wore frilly sleeves and expensive looking pants…those two were probably the royal retakers. One was a blonde kid that stood around all impatient-like while the other was a dark green-haired kid that leaned over by the lockers and was closing his eyes…he was probably trying to concentrate or something.

The other three were simple kids that just sat on the benches. One was a girl that was holding a book and reading it, she seemed like she didn't care for the other kids because of her silent demeanor. Another common looking kid was nervously clasping his hands together and it seemed like he was praying while kneeling on the floor. The last kid simply sat at the benches while he smiled all happy-like.

After looking around, he simply just approached the kids and sat down in one of the empty chairs. He didn't try to bother the other kids and instead just waited for his name to be called.

As minutes pass, the speaker of that waiting room suddenly turned on and a voice was heard.

{Okay…it seems like all the retakers are finally here. Okay then, first up is Michael Faraday. Please come to the testing room.}

As speaker in the room turned silent, the kid that happily sat in the bench suddenly got up and started walking out of the waiting room. His smile was brimming with confidence that when he turned to look at us, he couldn't contain his excitement and just went out and said something.

"Oh what a happy day, wish me luck boys." he said while his faced was plastered with that smile of his.

Seeing that happen, Hamil couldn't help but feel a bit creeped out by what he said. He and the other students all felt that this kid before them was a weirdo…but one by one they to said something back.

"Good luck."

"break a leg."

"yeah..you too?"

"good luck."

"...yeah.."

Seeing their reply, the kid that smiled didn't do nothing but went his way to the exam.

It was finally time for their exam. The room they waited in didn't have a screen to watch the performance so it was a mystery on what was the type of exam they were going to face off of. Knowing this, they continued to be nervous over their own turn.

And one by one, as each student left the waiting room, they to wished for a good result. And just like the first kid, they too asked for a wish of luck from the other kids and return, they too complied as one by one left the room…all that was left was Hamil.

{next up, Hamil Crux. Please proceed to the testing room.}

It was finally Hamil's turn.
