Prologue III

The moon shone brightly upon the night sky, though appeared to be hidden away by the appearance of the thick mist forming. Under a streetlamp, by a bus stop, stood a girl. She was wrapped in a big coat with the hood covering her head and face. The only thing peeking out was her pitch dark, long hair, and on it, raindrops glistened reflecting the light from the streetlamp.

It was a cold winter night, as her breath fogged and made a stream of steam rising towards the sky and blending into the existent fog. Bai Xinyu was wishing for the bus to come faster, that way, she wouldn't have to wait in the cold for too long. She couldn't wait to come home and dive into her blankets hiding from the coldness of the winter. If it wasn't because of her forgetfulness, forcing her to do a last-minute Christmas shopping, she would still be enjoying the warmth of her bed. But things never really go the way one wishes for.

As more and more people gathered by the bus stop, the bus should be arriving soon. By her side, stood a mom with her two children, probably at 5 and 2 years old. The older one was impatient and questioned nonstop when the bus would come, while the 2-years just stood there and played by himself. The mother had bags after bags filling her hands, even the trolley meant to carry the child was used.

Further behind stood a group of teenagers, discussing something she couldn't hear. Every now and then someone would laugh and the whole group joined in afterwards. Wasn't it just a few years ago Xinyu was in the same age, yet she couldn't recall any winter she and her group of friends would go out like this? Xinyu had always disliked the winter weather, except a few days of ice skating and appreciating the white wonderland, she hadn't gone out too much. Or maybe teenagers now was different than back then.

The little kids by her side had by now found a game to pass the time, chasing each other around the little space in front of the bus stop. Their mom would every now and then looked out and scold them gently, saying they shouldn't run too fast as they could fall very easily. It hadn't snowed for a few days, yet the temperature kept sinking. The snow had turned to ice, making every pathway very slippery. But it wasn't too bad at this moment, as the roads have been sprinkled with pebbles.

Bai Xinyu tiptoed to look across the road, looking for the bus but not one insight to see. Her sight wandered across the opposite side of the road, spacing out. Just as she was to retract her gaze, she caught someone looking at her direction. She and this person weren't far apart from each other and she could see him clearly. It was a sight of a rare handsome man. A par clear light brown eyes, dark brown hair ruffled and wet from frost in the air. It hung down on his forehead, making him look like a stray dog. Pointed chin, blood-red lips, wasn't this face carved to perfection, at least to her view of perfection. She couldn't help but stare at him for a long while, falling into a weirdly familiar trance.

"Feng´er! NOO!!" Bai Xinyu heard a scream by her side that woke her up from her trance. At a glance, she could see a little boy in front of a bus, the one she was waiting for. Something was terribly wrong with this situation since the bus didn't seem to stop. Within the next second, her body had acted on itself, throwing herself in front of the bus to shove the boy aside. Before she could move out of danger, she felt a huge power tearing her body apart, making her jump sideways.

What happened next was flashes of pictures and sounds appearing incoherently and flickering of lights. It was too noisy, crying voices, shouts for help, people shouting at her, telling her to stay conscious. The handsome man she stared at just a few minutes ago was kneeling by her side. She couldn't hear what he was saying but saw his eyes were coated with a layer of tears, his eyebrows furrowed and he looked angry. Somehow she felt like smiling dotingly back. This felt somehow familiar yet weird at the same time. She would probably die soon, was this the time to smile like an idiot seeing a stunning crying beauty.

Weirdly enough there wasn't any pain, and sound suddenly seized to exists. Golden string lights were hanging on every building as far as she could see. On every row and column of balcony fences. The trees on each side of the boulevard. Surrounding the big mall and train station. There, hung strings of fairy lights, washing away the darkness. The Advent star could be seen on many windows and also the decorations inside each different homes. She could even see a little bit of Christmas tree with grand ornaments and a shining star.

Grandest was the big Christmas tree in front of the Library Building, which was probably as high as a three-floor house. The light from the streetlamps and Christmas decorations were flickering in the snow, combined with the descending snowflakes from the sky created a wonderous sight of a Christmas Winter Wonderland.

Even so, there were none who stopped to look or even to appreciate. With their errands and busy schedules, they have to move quickly from here to there. The streets were bustling with people coming and going, doing their last preparation for Christmas. And now, in front of a bus stop on the main road, an accident happened. The second before everything became black, there seemed to be a voice calling after her. "YU'ER!!"
