Chapter 11: Chapter 9

< Quiet laughter filled her ears as she woke from a light sleep. The battle from the day before left the ringing of clashing swords and arrows thudding against bodies and shields ringing in her ears. She blearily blinked her eyes open exhaustion still weighing heavily on her. The laughter echoed again this time gentle fingers followed behind it as they brushed through the fur along her back. Her eyes fell closed again at the motion. She pulled in a deep breath, breathing in the smell of the moors and rain. An appreciative sigh reverberated through the war tent.

"You sleep to long."

The wolf lazily opened her eyes partway to look at her intruder, eyes following the still gentle fingers as they ran down her muzzle. She finally looked up in to the honey-gold eyes of the woman before her as another laugh slipped from the intruders' lips. A playful growl left the she-wolf's lips in response.

"I've let you sleep long enough Koda. There are duties we must see to before we begin our march back to pack lands. It's been a long enough winter, wouldn't you agree?"

Koda slowly uncurled herself from the ground and stretched out her paws before her. The sounds of bones, muscles, and tissue pulling apart and realigning filled the tent. She pushed up onto her feet, stretching once again as she did to get reacquainted with her human form. A smile curved on her lips when she caught her intruders roaming eyes.

"Aye, its been a long winter. I would've been a bit warmer if I had ye curled up with me last night."

An eyebrow rose in question as Koda reached forward and pulled the woman before her flush against her bare body. "Where'd ye run off to Kris?" She asked, nuzzling along the woman's cheek.

Kristina let out a breathy laugh as she pushed her way further into Koda's body. The arms around her waist tightened, pulling her closer until there wasn't any space between them. "I went for a night ride. Nothing to exciting Little Wolf."

An unamused huff released across Kristina's neck where Koda had resorted to placing soft kisses. A shiver went through them both as a cold wind swept through the tent. The morning chill making itself known. Koda pulled away with a despondent sigh.

"Come las. Let me dress and we can attend to duties. I'd like to be sitting before the castle's hearth before winter is over. Ye know I despise the cold."

Honey-gold eyes twinkled in amusement. "I'll be by the fires with your sister."

Hazel followed the lithe woman out of the tent, eyes shimmering with adoration. >

Beth woke to the sound of her brother yelling her name. The alarm blaring through her at her bedside. She reached over and slapped at the face of the phone until it went silent. The echoes of the dream fading from her conscious.

Since coming back from the weekend patrol she went on 2 weeks ago she'd had the same recurring dream. Details from the dream remaining fuzzy but slowly clearing. ""Little Wolf, the only phrase that sticks with me every morning.""

"Beth!! Let's go we have school today!!" Lucien's voice carried down the hall and through her closed door.

"I heard you already!" she shouted back.

She scrambled out of bed and hastily threw on whatever she pulled from her drawers and closet first. Rushing into the bathroom she quickly looked over her outfit of dark grey skinny jeans, plain t-shirt and plaid button down as she hurriedly brushed her teeth. Beth haphazardly styled her hair while racing down the stairs. Yelling bye to her mother who was fixing her coffee in the kitchen as she clumsily grabbed her backpack and yanked on her vans.

"How in the hell do you make us late on our first day back from break?" Lucien wondered aloud.

"Shut up and get in the car."

The school was a whirlwind of activity from the parking lot to the hallways. Students rushed to get what they needed from their lockers and to their classes on time. Beth and Lucien were much the same though Lucien's bulkier body made pushing through the crowed hallways easier. He quickly bid his sister goodbye as he spotted a friend of his that shared the same 1st period Algebra class. She echoed his goodbye distractedly, her eyes scanning the packed sardine can of students for one in particular. A hand pulled at her wrist capturing her attention. Beth turned to look at the Beta's dainty, strawberry blonde daughter, Vivian.

"Who are you looking for? We're going to be late for English." Vivian stated.

"No one." She replied hastily.

Vivian tsked at her while pushing her towards their shared class. Beth let out an awkward chuckle at Vivian's disbelieving look. "Your mother will bury you six feet under if she ever finds out that you've got the hots for a certain Acadian."

A flush swept up her neck and over her cheeks at Vivian's accusation. The vehement denial never had a chance to leave her lips. Her eyes caught sight of Kristina making her way into her own classroom. Their eyes catching and Beth could've sworn she heard both their hearts skip a beat. She stumbled slightly barely catching Kristina's amused smile as the door closed behind her.

"Oh yes, your completely not in any way attracted to the very stunning, very dangerous brunette across the hall." Came Vivian's sarcastic taunt.

Beth grumbled. Glaring as she passed Vivian to her seat directly behind the Beta's daughter.

"Shut up Viv."

A scoff came from in front of her. "Don't forget we have the pack run tonight. So, don't be daydreaming about your Acadian for the whole pack to see."

The last-minute warning came from Vivian just as class started. Dread pooled in the pit of Beth's stomach. She had completely forgotten about the pack run that was taking place that night.

"FUCK!"

"BETH! See me after class!" Her teacher snapped.

Beth let her head drop to the desk with a groan as the class snickered quietly around her.
