Chapter 2: Inside the door

Peering cautiously I saw that the door led into an alley way that looked like it was made of metal curiously. I hesitated a minute or two 'should I go in or should I wait' I thought to myself then something occurred to me 'what does anyone care if I'm here' this realization spurred me on and I quickly ran up to my bedroom and grabbed a high powered flashlight from my desk drawer and ran back down to the door excitedly glancing once at my forlorn backpack discarded by the workbench I didn't need it anyway. A strange thrill of excitement rushed through me as I hastened back to the door and flicked the light on letting the steady beam guide me through the vestibule and inside the alleyway. I stepped through the door and to my surprise my footsteps sounded metallic and it was bright and sunny opting me to flick my light off. I lifted my head and looked up my eyes growing wide as I saw blue sky and puffy white clouds above me, and giant airships filled the sky they looked like something from out of a fantasy movie, they're like...oh yes I've heard of this genre before steampunk where the victorian era became technology advanced using clock gears and water to fuel their machines, I quickly realized that this is an entire world made of steampunk and the alley I was standing in it's not a building alley the two walls of the alley are landing platforms for the airships with giant tanks of water for the airships to refuel. My jaw dropped at the ingenuity of it all steam is harmless to everything therefore this world must have considerably less pollution than the one I come from in the 21st century. I peered cautiously out of the alley and made sure that no one was around before stepping out onto the strangely metal ground and looked around to see that open sky and metal nothing green save for a few trees arranged to like a walkway mimicking a street. To my right there was a strange metal column that seemed to support everything, the width of the column reminded me of a sequoia tree as it's vide and vast. A strange thumping seemed to resonate from the column almost like a heartbeat if not for the irregular beats that spoke of a clock ticking. Visibility being what it is I pressed myself against the column in a spot where there was shade being cast therefore I was practically invisible to those in the airships above me.
