Chapter 20: Bad news

"Brian Dobinson," he repeated. He then took steps closer to Dalia and turned around like a good dancer. "How about you, young lady? Who are you?"

He looked at her tensed shoulders and hid the mischievous smile on his lips. Brian Dobinson knew everything about her, yet he acted like an ignorant immigrant.

Dalia had managed her emotions. She rose from the ground, biting gently the bottom of her pale lips.

Before she answered, she tilted her head and tried to examine the man in front of her. She was still reluctant of his true intentions but she has no other choice.

"Dalia Feintes, Martina's best friend." She replied and took a deep breath. She wasn't embarrassed despite what happened earlier.

He was nothing but an ordinary man in her eyes. For Dalia, Brian Dobinson was a monster who would only be a threat to her and for Martina.

"When she wakes up, we will leave right away and if you need something in return, we will discuss it with Martina." Her soft personality was finally gone. Dalia used to be that soft-hearted woman who always took for granted.

She was a vulnerable woman as she ended up with the wrong people. But because of Martina, she had learned to stand on her own feet.

Martina taught her to be independent and strong at the same time. And there would be no doubt she became such a woman who would fight anyone with her bare hands and fatal mouth.

As she waited for his answer, Dalia rolled her eyes at him. His presence made her uncomfortable and if she was the one to decide, she wanted him to get off from her sight as much as possible.

"I understand, but you don't have to repay me."

"No! Martina hates having debt or anything! She won't leave this place if you will reject her offer."

After all, humans lived for money. There were no other reasons for survival but to have millions of dollars to live an extravagant life.

It was how Martina believed about having a debt to be paid and owe to be part of someone's past.

"If that's what she wants then I'll cooperate after she wakes up," he paused and took a deep breath as soon as he met Dalia's meaningful gaze. "Nevermind, you're ruining the ambiance!"

Brian Dobinson said in disappointment. He didn't know Martina has a dragon best friend who would blow his system away through glazing fire.

He annoyingly walked towards the door and shrugged off his shoulders like a hard-working, exhausted man. He unbuttoned his black suit as he reached for the doorknob while Dalia secretly grinned behind him.

"He's finally leaving!" She said in excitement but she didn't know Brian heard it.

Dalia turned her gaze on Martina who was still sleeping. She felt guilty even she was treated and saved by someone who seemed weird.

She tried to catch her breath, reaching for Martina's thin arms. "Take a peaceful rest, Martina. I will tell your mother not to worry about you. Do you hear me, huh?"

Brian was quite impressed with her choice of words. She was happily talking to an unconscious person. He then accepted the fact that he misjudged Dalia's personality.

He realized he was too rude towards her. After all, she was one of the people who helped Martina during her dark times. And to earn her trust, Brian refused to leave and walked back closer to Dalia.

He said, "You looked drowsy, do you want something to eat and drink?"

"I'm not hungry," she replied quietly.

But Brian didn't want to stop. He then quickly grabbed Dalia's wrist and stood straight before her.

His eyes glinted as he looked intently into her scarlet cheeks. It was the first time he felt that kind of feeling but he denied it.

It wasn't necessary. The most important thing was to win Martina's heart and use it against his brother, Blue Dobinson.

His intentions were merely about himself. Brian gave everything he has to defeat Blue, but still, he ended up being a loser.

As long as Blue was still breathing, in the eyes of their father, Blue would always be the perfect son for him. No one could ever beat the only pureblood alpha.

And that was the reason why he loathed Blue in his entire life. Even he would be the last man standing, he would never overthrow his half-blood brother.

"Press that red button on your left if you need something. I have things to deal with." Brian spoke before he pulled the doorknob and closed it.

The longer he stayed with Martina, the more he reminisced the old, awful days. He tried to seek attention from the pack, from his parents yet, noting had changed as they only praised and saw Blue Dobinson.

In their eyes, no one could ever replace the pureblood alpha who was born to be the most powerful creature in the universe. And that was one of the reasons why Brian wanted to win Martina's heart.

If he succeeded with his evil plans, Blue Dobinson would make a move and do everything in return.

Every time he imagined it, Brian couldn't help to smile. After all the hardship he had to go through, in the end, everything was worth the wait. Winning his rival's lover was the only way to win against him.

Brian smirked as the door wailed. He then put his hands in his pocket and took a deep, heavy breath.

"Huh, what a perfect, warm welcome!" He said and slightly tilted his head. He was about to leave the area when his phone rang continuously.

Brian quickly answered the call with a smile on his lips. He knew it would be great news.

"Do you have it now?" He said quietly.

"Yes, Sir! I have everything you needed," the caller said on the other line. "But we have a problem, Sir!"

The smile on his lips vanished as soon as he heard the word problem. Brian thought it would be only good news but there was still a problem.

Annoyed, he rubbed the back of his head and asked the caller once again. "What is it?" His voice changed into a deep and serious tone.

After he heard everything, Brian threw his phone into nowhere as he feared someone's life would be put back as to where it should be before.
