Chapter 1: The First Day of Work
The day is just starting, the birds sing a cheery song, and the sunlight peeks in through the windows.
People on the streets coming and going, making it seem chaotic yet livey. Most of them with a destination and deadline in mind. Getting to work on time. Others lay still in bed. While some are enjoying the morning and eating a leisure breakfast in the comfort of their home.
Ah, it is a nice day indeed. Nice day to do some reformations and apply great changes. Good day to sow a little discord to set things right, trouble-making people going out of line need to be rectified and disciplined properly or the damage caused will only continue growing, while those people will only grow more complacent.
After looking at a few documents the young woman sitting comfortably in a desk chair, stands up while calling out to the secretary sitting at the desk outside her office.
"Linda, go call those people in" she smirks confidently, a cold air flashing through her eyes, the sign that something is about to happen.
The secretary, Linda, is a little astonished, but quickly understands what she is referring to and without further ado leaves the other's office to complete her task.
The young woman looks back at all the documents lying on her desk after the secretary leaves.
Today is a day very different from previous days. Today is the first day she starts working at this computer store, it was a sudden decision and most workers still don't know who she is, except for her secretary who is the clearest on the current situation.
As the newly allocated boss, Yelba Regon has finally resigned to her fate of submitting to her mother's wishes of taking over the store in her mother's place.
Her mother is already older, and the stress from managing this growing computer store has greatly affected her health lately. As the youngest daughter who talks the most with her parents from among her siblings, she's naturally more favored. Thus her mom has always had her eyes on her… she had to decide whether to listen to her mother's pleas or seek another higher paying job elsewhere.
Ah, but filial piety is still her first choice…
How could she choose to ignore this situation when her mother's health is on the line? Knowing her mother will continue being just as stressed if she instead of her trusted daughter gave the store over to some other person. She eventually agreed to taking over the store for her mother's sake. Though it took quite a lot of convincing and at least a year's time of persistence on her mother's part.
All these papers and reports on the desk were gathered by her in the last few days after she finally decided to take this position, the store though it doesn't lack customers, is currently having long-term unaccounted-for losses. Losses which when added together amount to a lot of money.
The workers standing outside turn to look at the closed doors wanting to hear what's going on inside, all while wondering what the hell is happening today, and who is the young woman who since early today has been inside the boss' office.
Soon after, someone knocks on the office's door.
"Come in" Yelba says firmly as her eyes slowly drift to the opening door of her new office.
The people coming into the office include the secretary, who's now bringing three people into the office. A woman in her 20s wearing a provocative short skirt and hair dripping over her shoulders, a middle-aged man with a round belly wearing a dress shirt and pants, and a man in his 30s wearing jeans and a colorful shirt he's taller by a head to the middle-aged man.
A forceful yet serene voice rings out inside the boss' office after these people come in:
"ah, so we meet"
The three people look at her in confusion, but looking at their eyes you can see unhidden disdain reflected for this nameless girl who's talking as if she is their superior.
"Who are you to be in the boss's office?" the woman in the short skirt says sneeringly.
But Yelba only gives her a quick glance before proceeding.
"Yelba Regon, ah. Your boss from this day forward" she says without any pressure in her voice. The three people look at her in shock at the unexpected news, one of them even directly glares at her bravely.
Ah, this shameless trio.
But it is now time for the real business.
"This boss is young but is no fool. Dawdling around flaunting fortune you've stolen is a crime and a sin. So this is what's been going on. How daring, forgetting your commitments and taking things which do not belong to you, ah. This is clearly robbery. This one is surprised to find such daring little things, daring enough to continue working here while you continue stealing work property. What do you have to say?" Yelba glares at them menacingly with eyes that seem to scream she can see everything and a smirk on her lips. She loves making this expression, how can she explain herself, she's read some manga, and lots of novels…
"Miss… it is a misunderstanding; how can we steal anything. The boss has always treated us well, we're grateful for that!" the man standing on the other side of the desk where the documents were slammed says in defense of himself. Clearly not intimidated by the lady in front, even assuming an innocent smile.
"This is a baseless accusation. And to be honest I do not understand, the old lady boss even came by yesterday, but we've never heard of a new boss being appointed. I think more than your accusations you're the one who's suspicious here" the woman says confident in her view of the self-proclaimed boss.
Yelba slightly giggles at the impulsive woman's words: "There's no denying this was a sudden decision ah. The old boss is very decisive and confident in her own choices, she didn't' give you guys time to adapt to this change at all. But things are as they stand. I'm eager to deal with you all today, uhm, I've thought about this a lot this morning, how to deal with you. Here's your choices. You can resign today and return the full amount of all the money and property you've illegally taken from the store. Or you can go pay for your crimes in jail"
The middle-aged man is startled, but choses to continue claiming virtue "what proof---"
"Proof?" Yelba interrupts the man's ranting, wishing to get this over with quickly.
"All these documents are the records of all the things that have fallen into your three pairs of hands. As well as the proof. Now make your choice" she says as she takes a quick assertive look at the folder filled to the brim with printed documents.
The three people radically change the expressions on their face to that of dread. And look at the young woman standing in front of them. The woman whose lips move to give them their sentence. Those thin reddish-pink lips that part to ruin them.
Soon after the three people leave the office, their expressions no longer resemble anything like the confidence they had when they went in. They're now accompanied by two police officers. They went in with stolen money in their pockets only to come out with a huge written down debt, and jobless.
Right before the police arrived one of them fiercely resisted to admitting his wrongs and made a huge mess and ruckus, startling all the curious employees standing outside the office. The police soon arrived to take him away and the other two left without another word, with the newfound realization that they've knocked themselves.
Standing alone inside the office, Yelba lets out a long-drawn-out sigh. And plummets onto her chair.
How stressful, having a fierce first day is completely nerve-wracking…. That crazy guy that went berserk surprised her, who'd have thought she'd be in physical danger so soon after the day started…
Is it her fault for not waiting a little bit longer, at least till she was properly introduced to everyone in the store and office? Well, or at least until her employees got to know her better enough to intervene if that crazy one went up to her to pull her hair out and punch her face. Ah, if he had attacked her directly her employees wouldn't even know it's their boss who got crushed, how frustrating.
Just hope her employees won't think this cute new boss is a tyrant, ah… she's really not a trouble-maker but this case has been irritating her to no end, really had to deal with it as soon as possible. They clearly though since her mom was older and due to her stress overlooked many things, that they could easily get away with it. Ah so rude!
