Chapter 109: The Truth - Part 8

Within their group, each of the girls has skills they can rely on.

Olivia was the brawn of the group. Being the half-Orc half-Goblin that she was, she brought the muscle to the table. Not to mention there was also the intimidation factor, knowledge from Earth and the sizable weapon she had.

Lyrika was the archer and hunter of the group. She provided ranged support for a fight and was able to put food on the table without much hassle. She also had the knowledge of the surrounding land and beast-kin which, for their current mission obviously came in handy.

Philly was the observer of the team. Even with her nose in her journal writing down all that was happening, due to choosing Olivia to study, she still managed to notice things that the rest didn't. Because of the book she was writing, she was also probably their historian or storyteller, keeping track of all that they did, should anyone want to know in the future.

Olivia might want her to remove some of the subject matter should it come to that, given some of the stuff she wrote about being of a…sexual nature.

Then there was Ameril, who brought the knowledge of nobility with her. She also brought along a set of lockpicks making her quite the contrasting member of the group as well. A noble thief as it were.

But in terms of a skill to help calm down two terrified women chained to walls, well there was no person better than Olivia…

…To turn to Lyrika for help.

"Beatrix and Kathleen, right." She said looking from one girl to the other. "No one is going to hurt or…eat you. Olivia would never do that."

Olivia nodded.

"Not in the way you are imagining it anyway."

"What?" The two girls asked Lyrika not understanding what she meant.

"Err…nothing. Just a joke."

Olivia had missed what she said, only hearing that she was telling a joke. It probably would help ease the situation, but it didn't sound like it landed very well.

"Look, Olivia is a very nice person. You remember what happened at dinner. Olivia was there and nothing bad happened, right."

The two girls look apprehensively at Lyrika and then at each other, only nodding very slightly.

"See. And think about it. If Olivia was bad why would I and two other girls be traveling with her."

"Because you're her slaves?" Kathleen asked.

Olivia just rolled her eyes.

"Did we look like slaves? Do I?"

"N-No." was the response from Beatrix.

"That's because I'm not. See, no slave collar or anything." Lyrika exposed her neck to show them. "You on the other hand."

*Wince* Blunt. Another skill of Lyrika's she forgot to add.

They didn't have slave collars on them. Either their captor didn't have any or saw no reason to buy them. Being kept in the basement via chains probably removed the need to use them.

"I-we."

"It's the chief, isn't it? What he's put you through…" Lyrika continued, all the while getting sad at the situation.

"He-he said we were helping. Helping to solve all the problems the beast-kin face. He s-said that by joining him we would help bring the beast-kin together." Beatrix managed to say in amongst sobs.

"You don't still honestly believe that do you? After everything that's happened." Kathleen crudely brought up.

"No," Beatrix said meekly.

"So, the current chief, the guy living here, you willingly became his…" Olivia went to say, the two girls having gotten more comfortable with her presence there. It probably helped that she had remained by the door this whole time.

"No." Kathleen started, cutting her off. "She doesn't mean him. We're talking about the previous chief. He's the one that started all of this. Talking about bringing people together and then just using us like this. The chief running this village now was just the old chief's apprentice before he left on his grand tour of the beast-kin villages. He left him behind to take care of the place."

So, the new chief going around to all the villages was the previous chief of this village. So it was a lie about him just turning up and the previous chief joining him.

"We were fooled. He came to our villages with grand tales and promises and we ended up joining him to seal the alliance with our village. But we realised too late what he had planned for us. He sent us to his place, giving us to his apprentice as a way to keep him happy and ensure he kept the place going."

The room just went silent after that, everyone just ruminating on the story of what had happened to them. Before it could grow too awkward, Olivia spoke up.

"Well, you don't have to suffer in this place any longer. Lets get you out of here. There's no reason for you to stay here any longer. We came here looking for evidence of what his plans are, and after hearing what happened to you, I think we have more than enough information. Besides, having you two with actual experience of the cruelties the chief has committed should be evidence enough for Tegan and Yoban, as well as to get the other chiefs on our side."

"Y-Yoban. You-you know my father."

Both Olivia and Lyrika looked down at Beatrix, seeing the first sign of hope in her eyes as she stared back at them.

For Olivia and Lyrika, it just felt surreal. To think they would find Yoban's daughter in this place… neither of them could describe how it felt.

There were obviously a lot of other girls that were still out there, but with their experience in Yoban's village, and the time they told him about what the chief was doing. He had been horrified to know that his daughter was possibly experiencing abuse by that hands of that man. The whole thing made it feel more…personal. So, it was a great feeling to know that she was now okay, and that they could reunite her with her father.

"Yes. On our way here we spoke to him to tell him about what we had learnt about the new chief. He told us that you agreed to join him."

"Yeah. He seemed nice when we met. A little older, but he was so passionate about what he was doing. I thought it was good what I was doing. But…well."

With how things turned out, that obviously wasn't the case.

"Is my father okay? Nothing bad happened to him, did it?"

"We helped him with a bandit problem. The town is a little worse for ware, but he is okay."

Beatrix was relieved to hear that, sighing and lying her head against the wall. Olivia didn't think now was the best time to go into many of the villagers fleeing or being captured as slaves. Telling her that would come later.

Both of these girls probably had a lot more questions about what had been happening in the surrounding villages or why they were involved with any of this, but Olivia knew that time was likely ticking.

"Well, I think it is about time we all got out of this horrible place," Olivia said as she moved over to the two girls. They did flinch a little, ingrained fear could be like that sometimes, but once they saw that Olivia took hold of the chains attached to the walls they relaxed.

Olivia strained herself a little as she pulled at the chains, but before long, the sounds of creaking and then snapping were heard as she managed to break the chain link that was attached to the wall.

Having freed Beatrix, she moved on to Kathleen doing the same thing. Increased strength really was quite the boon. For a human, those chains would be impossible to deal with, but with her Orc physique, it was child's play. These were chains made to just hold human prisoners after all. Anything larger might have given her trouble or been impossible to break though.

They still had the chains attached to their wrists, but that would have to wait. Getting out of this place came first, so the girls had to carry the remains of the chains, as they followed after Lyrika and Olivia.

Olivia ascended the ladder first. She told Kathleen and Beatrix to remain quiet, and that the other two girls that were with them were waiting above. Better to let them know in case they screamed out from two figures just appearing.

As Olivia made it to the top, she slowly pushed open the hatch, moving it with ease. She got it a few inches, before nimble fingers took hold of its edge and helped it along.

"Took your time." Were the whispered words that left Philly's mouth as she opened up the hatch for Olivia. To some, it sounded like she was berating her, but for Philly, it just sounded like she was saying it as just a thing to say in the moment. Nothing more.

"The search took a while and we also found…prisoners."

Back out in the dimly lit room, Olivia stood to the side and took hold of the hatch, lowering it so that the rest could come through. As she did, she looked around finding something amiss.

"Where's Ameril?"

"Just in the next room. Keeping an eye on things."

With that sorted, Olivia helped the three girls out of the basement, where Kathleen and Beatrix greeted Philly once they were out. Having done that, they just stayed still and kept quiet, not knowing what to do now.

That is until Ameril entered the room.

"You are back. That's great… we may however have a problem."

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Braderzsz Braderzsz

Hi All, I hope you like the chapter. Prisoners under the chief have been found, along with one of them being the daughter of Yoban. Their voices and the information they found, should be more than enough evidence of the new chief's crimes. All they have to do is get out of this village in one piece.
