Chapter 8: 7
Nu Shen's lips twitched after hearing the demands of the man in front of her. Heat started to circulate on her palms as she thought about blasting the shameless man into tiny bits.
The man pretended not to notice what Nu Shen was conjuring in her hands, instead he licked his upper lip in a teasing manner, "What do you say?"
Nu Shen felt the blood rush up her brain at the provoking gestures of the man. This man was really testing her patience.
"Mugu, get him out of here. Throw him in the streets and don't let him enter ABD again." Nu Shen instructed Mugu as if the man she was talking about was not present in the room.
Mugu looked back and forth between his two masters. If he obeyed Nu Shen, his master will have his soul painfully ripped from him. If he does not obey Nu Shen, the priestess will surely burn his whole being. Either way, he's dead.
Mugu laughed to disperse the tension in the room, "Why don't we talk about this like matured adults?"
Mature? Adults? Does those words even apply to his masters?
Both masters looked at Mugu with displeased eyes. Mugu was hanging on a thin thread and he needs to diffuse this animosity between the two if he wanted to survive.
"Mistress, why don't you give in to his demands? It isn't that hard-" Mugu noticed the threatening glare Nu Shen was throwing him so he quickly corrected himself, "I mean, its hard but we can work with it."
"Mugu, didn't you hear me? Do I need to repeat myself?" Nu Shen leered.
"But Mistress..."
"Fine. I'll repeat it again," This time Nu Shen pronounced each word clearly and with conviction, "Mugu, throw this man away from me. And throw yourself along with him. I don't want to see both of you ever again."
Without waiting for both men to speak, Nu Shen pushed them out of the room and slammed it right in front of them without forgetting to say, "Good riddance."
The man beside Mugu was weirdly ecstatic, contradictory to the horrified Mugu.
"Ahh, isn't she a lovely lady? She charms me every time!" The man exclaimed in a vibrant tone.
Lovely lady? Which part of Nu Shen was lovely? Mugu wanted to ask but he knew better so he shut his mouth.
"Very feisty, too. I like it." The man continued with his daydreaming.
Mugu shook his head. Did his master lose his sanity or was he simply a masochist?
"Master, what are we going to do now? Mistress has banished us both." Mugu questioned as they started to walk away.
"No plans." The man answered, a grin still visible in his face.
Mugu wanted to shake the man to wake him up from his happy stupor, "Then are we going back to the underworld?"
"Of course," The man answered, "Not."
Mugu sighed, completely giving up. He felt like he was more invested in this relationship more than the two participants who were involved.
"My Shen Shen is just playing hard to get." The man added.
Master, she just dumped you. How is that playing hard to get? Mugu almost rolled his eyes.
Suddenly, the door of Nu Shen's door opened and revealed the frowning priestess, "Stop, both of you."
The man gave Mugu an 'I-told-you-so' look before turning to face Nu Shen. With the perpetual smile that never left his face, the man strode towards Nu Shen, with Mugu who following him from behind.
"I'll agree to your proposition but," Nu Shen eyed the man warily, "I have a condition of my own."
The man nodded profusely, "Sure."
"We can share a room only if," Nu Shen emphasized each words, "You double the money you're bringing in. If less than a tael is missing, then I will sell you."
A money grubbing witch. Mugu mentally spoke. Suddenly, both his masters glared at him. "Did I say that out loud?" Mugu covered his mouth and took several steps backward.
Nu Shen sneered at Mugu before turning her attention back to the man in front of her, "Do you agree?"
"No, I don't agree. You're not a money grubbing witch," This time, it was the man who gave Mugu a warning look, "You're a beauti-"
Before the man could finish his speech, Nu Shen already has her hand cover his mouth, "Do you agree with my condition?"
What the man did next startled Nu Shen and she almost fell backwards. The man brazenly licked her hand and the cool sensation it left made her shiver. Flushed with anger, Nu Shen tried to summon a fireball but for some unknown reason, it was not working.
Cuss here, cuss there.
Hearing Nu Shen cuss had extended Mugu's vocabulary and widened his horizon. Ah, thank you for the colorful lecture priestess.
On the other hand, the man was smiling from ear to ear as he watched Nu Shen with fascination. To him, she was like a tiny roll of sunshine and rainbows rolled into one.
"I accept your condition," The man confidently spoke, "I'll even triple your profit."
Hearing the word triple was enough to calm the raging Nu Shen and momentarily forgot about the lick and her malfunctioning fireball, "Good."
"Then do we have a deal?"
"Yes."
When the man heard Nu Shen's confirmation, he immediately entered the room and laid upon Nu Shen's bed. He stretched his limbs and made himself comfortable.
Nu Shen frowned seeing the sprawled man in her bed, "Get off my bed."
"Where am I going to sleep then?" The man looked at Nu Shen with pitiful eyes, his mouth sporting a pout.
Nu Shen ignored the cutesy acts of the man and pointed at the cold, hard ground, "There."
The man let out an exaggerated 'oh!' as if he was in utter disbelief, "My back will hurt if I sleep there."
"You have no other choice so get out of my bed while I'm asking nice-" Nu Shen was cut off when the man pulled her towards the bed. Nu Shen lost ber balance and the next thing she knew, she was wrapped up in a tight embrace.
"Let's just share the bed," The man smiled, "See, we both fit."
Nu Shen exploded.
