Chapter 2: Unknown

*Miera's POV*

Behind us, the fire was sizzling.

He tried to get up. "Don't." I ordered him. "I don't think you are strong enough to do so." I said as I slightly tilted my head to the side and looked at him.

"You are not from here." I said mostly to my myself. "How did you get here?" I asked him. I waited for him to answer when it finally dawned on me.

"Are you slow, or are you just not thinking?" I said narrowing my eyes. He seemed strong. His body was well build and he had broad shoulders.

"What?!" He said probably offended. "Are you calling me stupid just now?" He frowned. He tried to get up again.

"I have to go." He said as he half stood.

"Oh come on… I am trying to keep you out of harm's way and you keep on pushing your luck." I mumbled under my breath. I pinched my eyes shut.

I heard him fall to ground and I opened my eyes. "Did you do that?" He whispered sounding starlet.

"Well that works." I said as I grinned. "That is something at least, maybe luck is returning back to my favor." I smiled brightly.

"WAIT WHAT?!" He tried to yell at me.

I shrugged. "Where were you trying to go anyway?" I flatly asked him.

"It's just that-" It seemed like he had trouble breathing.

"It's just what?" I urged him to continue. I looked at the drawings on the walls of the cave. My ancestors had been here before. In the ancient times this cave was meant to protect the people of the Asur.

"I honestly can't remember what I am doing here, or how I got here." He said as he touched his face, like it was the first time.

He tried to get up again, but then he settled to sit against the rock wall of the cave instead. He sat down, crossed-legged.

"Are you thirsty?" I asked him. "Yes." He said. His voice was becoming more steady.

I stood up, and the room was filled with the sound of my armor clashing to the grey rocks.

"That sounds really heavy." He told me. He bit his pinkish lips. He had a small but sharp nose.

"It is." I beamed. "But you are a woman." He said disapprovingly. "Yes I am." I said as I handed him my flask. He eagerly drank and then paused. "You may finish it, if you want." I smiled. "There is more outside." I said as I pointed to the curtain of water that barricaded the cave as a door.

"Right, thank you." He mouthed.

I sat back down and wiggled with my legs.

It was quiet for a while. "I don't really know what to say to you, since you don't know who you are, where you are, and why you are here." I blurted out.

He laid his head against the wall and closed his eyes.

"I like the quiet." He said. "Or at least I think that I do." He added.

I sighed.

"If you want." He said smiling crookedly at me.

"You can tell me who you are, where we are right now and why you are here?" He said in a teasing tone.

"Are you feeling better?" I said as I raised both eyebrows, letting him see I was on to him.

"A little." He admitted sheepishly.

"Well go on." He urged me, imitating the same irritated tone, as I had addressed him with. He pressed his lips together in a hard line. But the dimple in his cheek betrayed him. He was trying very hard not to laugh.

"My name is-" He broke me off mid-sentence.

"Your name is Gwendelynn." He mused. "I remember." He said as he tapped his index finger to the temple of his forehead. I snickered involuntarily. I shook my head. He never said anything I expected him to.

"Now that we have settled who you are, may I ask where we are?" He said as he held my gaze.

"You have strange eyes." I burted out again.

"I do?" He asked touching his eyelids. "What are they like?" He asked in all seriousness. I frowned at him.

"You really don't know, do you?" I stated much more than I asked.

"Well that is something we can easily fix." I said, thinking of showing him his reflection in the river.

"No." He breathed. His eyes were wary, while he was managing a smile.

"Your head still hurts doesn't it?" I observed.

"I am okay." He insisted. "No you are not." I responded.

"Maybe it is best if we both get some sleep." I suggested.

"Very well then." He said as he slumped down. "Gwendelynn?!" He called me as he closed his eyes. "Yes." I replied as I took his appearance in.

He was handsome in a very unusual way. His golden hair reached his shoulders. His skin was fair and his jawline was very sharp, with a pointy chin.

He was wearing a brown and green tunic, with golden ornaments. His shoulders seemed to be covered in a piece of armor. But it seemed to me as if the armor was only there for decoration. I did not think it could offer him any protection.

"Where are we?" The handsome young man asked.

"We are at the border of the oakforest."I told him.

"Oh." Was the only thing he said before he fell asleep.

As he was sleeping, my mind was racing. I tried and tried, to remember the riddles that were being told today. I could hardly think of anything.

I traced my fingers across the wall drawings, hoping they would carry some sort of hint. I saw the sketches of the great war, that ended our ancient times. It was a time when all elves fearlessly and freely lived together.

The Sun Elves had brought an end to that great time, with their arrogance and pride. They seemingly believed that they were the true elven race. Hate flooded through me as I thought of all they had done to my people.

As I thought of all they had done to me…

The Sun Elves believed that they were the builders of our realms, but I knew they were not.

My mother was gone because of them.

I cracked the bones in my hand, thinking of what I would do with them, if I was ever close to one of them.

I would most definitely be glad to snap their necks, one by one.

The Sun Elves had destroyed everything I loved in life.
